"Well, we picked this one right. Two October weeks at a quiet Cycladic village villa, close to town and beaches but set sufficiently apart to clearly be the real deal. Such was the village of Eggares and this lovely villa, set on a hillside overlooking this largely tourist-free bucolic hamlet (save for a few cars at an olive oil museum), with no neighbors other than a small herd of sheep residing just below us whom we watched daily from our private swimming pool. And, of course, our beck-and-call landlords, Anna and Max, as cheery and helpful as one could hope, yet who graciously left us alone unless needs be (for example: although living on the same property, I’ll confess to never having actually seen their own house). The villa’s furnishings are pretty basic, which is de rigueur for Cyclades’ villas. It is also immaculate, relaxing and utterly comfortable, with all manner of outdoor space to enjoy the pastoral view. And such a view. Eggares has an elegant orthodox church (quite large for a village its size); the customary hillside of white Cycladic homes; a local tavern (“Stella’s”) where the menu is a narrated inspection of the six pots that Stella has stewing that evening; and another restaurant (“O Charis”) that you’ll find on not-a-few “Best of Naxos” lists. But above all, it has wondrous silence. Hey, if you’re party people, this ain’t your place. But if you are looking for a gracious sanctuary after a day about on the island, push the "book" button."

"We stayed for two nights at ELaiolithos and it was a highlight of our time in Greece. From the photos on this site, you can see that the location is stunning in the mountains of Naxos but what you can’t see is the incredible hospitality provided by Helen and her team to make you feel welcomed and like you are experiencing a bit of real life in Naxos through the food and suggestions she offers you. We also appreciated the queer-friendly hotel and staff. Our suite was comfortable, well-appointed and luxurious. We chose ELaiolithos because we wanted to stay at a hotel which was situated well for hiking and exploring the villages of Naxos. Helen, the owner, provided great suggestions on where to hike and what to see during our days there. I recommend the hike through olive and citrus groves and many villages in the area. Another highlight was the food! The restaurant has plenty of options for vegans, vegetarians, and gluten-free diets and these dishes were never lacking in anything or didn’t feel like they were a substitution — they were fully thought out, purposefully vegan meals which were some of the best we had in Greece. The locally-focused menu was really special and let us try the flavourful herbs, cheeses, yogurt, and vegetables from around the island. I’d highly recommend ELaiolithos for a relaxing getaway with great access to hiking, interesting villages, great food, and incredible hospitality. Thank you, Helen!"

"We visited September 2024 with a large group of 9 adults. The property was exactly as pictured and so spacious we didnt even spend time in all the lounge areas. We loved sitting outside playing games and sharing a meal. The port area was an easy 15 min drive. Communication with the host was great as well. We would come back in an instant and stay here! "

"We had trouble finding the property, which is not an easy drive up narrow roads. Directions would be helpful. Once there, we were warmly greeted by Konstantina who showed us around. She left a delicious platter of cheese and tomatoes, a bottle of wine and some water - a nice touch. She was always on hand to answer our queries. The apartment was clean, stylish and generally well equipped for self catering. The rooms were comfortable and the outside space was perfect for dining and watching the sun set. The hot tub was an added bonus for relaxing after a day out exploring this beautiful island. Konstantina had recommended Story Cars and they were excellent. They met us at the port with our car and collected it there when we left. We would highly recommend this property for those wanting comfort and seclusion. Thank you Konstantina for a great stay. "My partner and I moved from busy accommodation on the other side of the island in search of peace and quiet, we found it at Azalas cottages. Astrid and Nikos are very warm and welcoming hosts, the oven warm loaf of bread and homemade wine was an immediate sign of their dedication to ensuring their guests enjoy their stay. We are already planning to visit next year and enjoy our private cove.."

"Great house. Nice shaded area to eat outside. And plenty of other terraces with views over the countryside and village opposite. Inside also good, everything we needed. It was well laid-out: nice views from every room and we could have a decent breeze in the heat. Location is at the back of Glinado, an easy walk away from the bakery, and small collection of village shops. The village is short drive to nice beaches, and far enough away from the busy Naxos town."
