Not as listed!
This house has the potential to be amazing however, the listing is not an accurate display of how the house is currently maintained. The gardens are all overgrown and there is a swamp in the backyard that is infested with mosquitoes. The house has rotten floors with holes throughout and places where you think you may fall through the floor.Pool area was not as listed. It looks like the pictures were taken more than 10 years ago and the house has not been properly maintained. The road noise was listed in the description. However, the realistic expectation should be the road noise is so loud that it shakes the house at times. We booked this house for two nights and only ended up staying for one. The check-in process was a disaster and the agency did not listen to me as far as not having a keypad to enter the property. It took us over an hour to enter the property And we were only successful because my husband found a way around the gate to open it from the inside. I was very disappointed in this house as I was looking forward to the uniqueness it offered in the beautiful gardens.

Upon arrival the gate and house codes we were given were backwards, and the alarm kept going off. The few numbers we called for help we couldn’t reach anyone. We finally got ahold of a 24/7 emergency number through the property manager Vacasa. We explained what was going on and they said they would have someone get back to us. No one reached out. We were not given clear instructions upon entering or leaving. We also weren’t left any keys to unlock the main door leading out from the kitchen to the veranda. This house is insanely loud. I was a bit skeptical with reviews but no, I don’t know how any person can sleep next to that road. The sound was majorly amplified into the house as it’s all open air and very thin wood walls. The house itself is old and gives an old cabin feel. The kitchen was great, minus the uneven floors. Would have been better if the door wasn’t locked and we could more easily access the veranda. The outside was nothing but beautifully landscaped and well taken care of. There were many areas to sit and enjoy meals, games; reading and coffee. Great to relax in the open air. The pool was clean, the jacuzzi didn’t work as per the booking guidelines. The beds were comfortable, and the fans helped cool it down in the evening but during the day can get pretty stuffy. We also weren’t left any garbage bags, or face cloths. All in all we enjoyed our time outside but would not be booking again due to the extreme loud traffic and lack of communication.

Locked out at night!
We stayed for 5 nights and had mixed results, 2 stars. Positives: There's a pool! The gardens around the house are beautiful and well maintained. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, etc. They provide plenty of towels, linens and garbage bags. Negatives: 1. The floor is in bad shape and rotted floorboards are cosmetically covered with throw rugs. In our first steps through the door, our daughter put her foot into a hole in the floor and twisted her ankle. 2. Vacasa is horrible-I wouldn't stay at any Vacasa property again based on this experience. When the code we were given to open the gate to the property did not work, we could not reach someone in the country and were told we’d have to wait until someone from the “local office” called us back. We ended up spending 3 hours mostly in the dark waiting for someone to show up to let us in. Eventually, Vacasa got in touch with someone that could open it remotely. When someone (with no English) did arrive at the property, they were unable to make the gate open or tell us how the situation was going to be resolved. We spent the next 2 days not leaving the house because we didn't have a way to get back in. Other than texting a relative of the owner a hoping she was around to remote open the gate. There are worse places to be stuck in for 2 days, but we had to cancel some of our activities in La Fortuna during the limited time we had for this vacation. For their part, Vacasa lied to us repeatedly about the resolution when they weren't ignoring us. 2b. ... so don't rent this place unless you can arrive around 4pm. If we had arrived a little later, it’s plain that we would have been sleeping in our car on the roadside the first night. Location: 1. This place is very loud. The traffic noise is non-stop night and day. The house is right next to a speed bump, so you hear vehicles brake and then accelerate all night long. However, like many homes in CR, there are no windows, only screens, separating you from noise. Bring earplugs and noise cancelling headphones. 2. This place is 45-60 minutes from anything you'd like to do in La Fortuna 3. You are in rainforest, so expect bugs. The biting ants immediately swarm any bit of food you drop, & if we didn’t cover up everywhere, we’d have chigger bites all over after sitting on the outdoor furniture. There is no dryer (it is disconnected). The hot tub is not hooked up, they won't tell you until it is too late to get refund.

Disappointing experience with Vacasa
Grounds and pool area are beautiful. But there are shortcomings on location and property functions.

Beautiful yet very misleading
As you walk into this property you will be wowed by the beauty of the outdoor layout. Spacious and unique, as advertised. Unfortunately, there are some fatal flaws that are misrepresented in the listing. 1. The house itself is close to a ver busy road that is roaring with traffic throughout the night. Sleeping a full night is literally impossible. So to describe it as relaxing would be challenging. 2. There is only one independent bedroom that was unusable when we arrived. The others are contained in the same central building and are separated by sliding walls. So while the property sleeps a decent amount of people you are essentially in the same room (we had 8). 3. While the property is notably in the country the convenience of having a pizzeria in front intrigued us. When we arrived we learned it had been closed for several months. Not only would we not stay here again, we feel this property was significantly misrepresented in its listing.

Four Significant Hassles
The property was very nice but it has one major deficiency. In the north bedroom were five fans to wrestle with. Some fans did not work, or the remote controls did not work, or they were dirty, noisy, unbalanced and unusable, or the electric outlets were so defective that a fan would not stay operating, its plug would slip out every few minutes. The owners need to get broken fans and outlets fixed in one bedroom. Next, contacting the property for check-in was problematic because when I phoned the woman she could not hear me. Two different contact numbers, 4 or 5 call attempts, she could not hear me when calling from La Fortuna, nor from outside property gate. Thirdly, the property listing does not mention that the traffic noise is unending and unbearable. Even when wearing earplugs, we were awakened frequently all night, amounting to two nights of hell. Fourth, this property is a lawsuit waiting to happen for due to FIVE major tripping hazards. The kitchen and adjacent bathroom floors are a killer with a two inch step running diagonally across the floor. In this house every set of steps (except the underwater pool steps) is inconsistent. Your step height is different with each step. One stair area is all beige, making it impossible to see there are steps there. The noise and tripping made for an awful experience at what is otherwise a superb property.
