"Big Horse Inn is a hidden gem in this part of Illinois. It is perfectly located, close to Dickson Mounds (great hiking trails), Emiquon National Wildlife Refuge, and the Illinois/Spoon River area. The room was spacious and the bed was comfy. Self check-in could not have been easier. Don't miss the attached Black Maple coffee shop for delicious breakfast and lunch options (and coffee, of course). The inn is within easy walking distance of a traditional small-town diner, Casey's, and Dairy Queen, so plenty of options for any dining budget!"

"We are in our 70s so the loft was a steep ladder which seemed slippery. We’d reserve a 2-bed in the future for the convenience of the main floor bedroom. Dishes and linens were nice quality. It rained the whole time we were there, but the large windows allowed us to take in the setting. Shades really kept out the sun, and it was nice there was a shade for every window! It was fun and unique for a rental to have a wood fireplace! The 5-point door was tricky to lock. Well maintained paths. Furniture was cramped. Variety of cleaning supplies provided."

"This site is still under construction but promises to be a nice getaway. I was the only cabin in use. The huge windows provided a great view of the lake and the daily gathering of Canadian geese. Perfect place for dogs with clean tile floors - easy to clean and don’t hold smells from previous pets. Comfortable bed, great TV, tight quarters with limited furniture/seating (no place to set suitcase), beautiful bathroom, basic kitchen tools (no serving bowls or mixing dish) and coffee provided. 2-unit cook top was crowded to use both units. All questions and issues addressed during stay in timely manner. Generous amount of wood for fires indoor or fire pit. We spotted many birds and clues of local deer -setting was peaceful and should be more picturesque once the land recovers from the construction."

"Low cost room. The bed was comfortable. The TV, fridge and microwave all worked. Hot shower. The room was a little too warm the first night, but comfortable the next. I like the room cool at night. Just my preference. For the price, I would return."
