This rustic countryside retreat is nestled on 5 hectares of wonderfully planted gardens at Benger Garden Cafe & Chalets, with panoramic views of Mt. Benger. A cozy 190 square-foot tiny house with a queen-sized bed up in the loft, a couch on the ground floor, and easy access to clean drinking water from the tap. Split air conditioning, a kitchenette, cooking equipment, and excellent bathroom facilities.
These amenities include an eco-friendly cassette toilet with a removable waste holding tank, a hand basin, and a gas-heated shower for hot showers.
If you plan to spend your tiny house New Zealand escapes here, you can order food from a nearby café/restaurant and have it delivered to your accommodation (by prior arrangement with your host).
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please advise that there will be other guests on the property—where a second tiny house sits on the same property. If you want to book in groups, please contact your land host 24 hrs in advance to make arrangements.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the tiny house, the outside garden, and the laundry, which will need advance notice from the land host. On the other hand, guests have restricted access to the garden of the host's private property.
Enjoy a complimentary cooked breakfast or choose from a continental selection, including cereal, fresh fruit, and yogurt, to start your day off right. Breakfast is served in our café from 7:30 to 10:00 AM. Please inform host in advance.

- Lake Onslow is a man-made reservoir that supports pastoral farming and hydroelectricity generation.
- Pinders Pond is a tranquil place to camp and swim. Alternatively, you can also find heated pools in Roxburgh or Miller Flat if you're interested.
- Kawarau Gorge is known for its stunning scenery and the historic Kawarau Bridge, where you can try bungee jumping—a favorite adventure for visitors.
- Mt Benger has spectacular views over Roxburgh/Ettrick Valley. A high tussock grassland plateau, which can be quite foggy depending on the weather.
- Clutha Trail is the perfect cycling trail that winds through native woodlands, mountains and rivers. You can also arrange a drop off and pick up for a small fee of $20 with the host.

For travelers coming from Christchurch to our property, here's a suggested route:
1. Flight from Christchurch to Dunedin: Begin your journey with a flight from Christchurch International Airport (CHC) to Dunedin Airport (DUD), which takes around 1 hour.
2. Getting to Ettrick from Dunedin: Upon arrival in Dunedin, you have options for reaching Ettrick, approximately 90 kilometers southwest:
- Rent a Car: Renting a car offers flexibility to explore at your own pace.
- Public Transport: Consider using buses and taxis, although schedules may vary, so it's wise to check beforehand.
3. Route to Ettrick: The typical route heads west on State Highway 8 through scenic Central Otago. Along the way, you'll pass through towns like Roxburgh and Alexandra before reaching Ettrick.
This itinerary allows you to experience both Dunedin's city charm and the rural beauty of Ettrick, showcasing the diverse landscapes of New Zealand's South Island.

- Pets are not allowed on beds and sofas, and clean after your pet’s droppings
- Please clean up after your pet’s shedding before checking out in courtesy of other guests
- Please note that this is a PET-FRIENDLY property, and pet policies will be sent prior to arrival
- We would like to advise guests that longer stays or later check-outs will incur an additional charge
Important note:
- Due to the nature of the property, abundant wildlife may be present on the property
- Keep in mind that BBQ grills and outdoor fire pits are not available during a total fire ban
- For stays of 5 nights or more (or for bookings of 5 nights or more), an additional cleaning fee will be collected to help maintain the cassette toilet and ensure a clean and fresh experience for all guests. We appreciate your understanding.
