Luxury Beach Side Villa - private beach, outstanding exclusive chef and staff

Khomba Beach House is a stunning private villa with its own exclusive beachfront.

Set in six acres of lush tropical garden, you'll be completely spoilt by an excellent chef, butler and housekeeper who are dedicated to your every need and exclusively for you.

Situated 2 1/2 hours’ drive North of Colombo’s airport on the West Coast, it’s the only house of it’s kind on a privately owned, pristine beach. Unlike the beaches in the South, the calm waters have no currents so children are perfectly safe.

Step of your own beach into a boat to go and see the stunning daily display from the dolphin super pods, go a little further and see the migrating whales, or return inshore and scuba or snorkel off the reef, or just go fishing!

Set 150 metres back from the water’s edge, Khomba is designed on an open plan basis with high ceilings, fans, polished floors and overhanging eaves in order to enjoy the cool ocean breeze while also bathing in the glorious temperate light.

Khomba House comprises two separate large double bedrooms, with their own en-suite facilities. Each of these bedrooms has a further daybed suitable for small children. Adjoining bedroom one is a separate sitting room with three further daybeds.

The main 80 sq metre verandah provides a fantastic area in which to relax and look out at the sea views.

Khomba boasts one of the finest chefs in Sri Lanka. A mouth watering range of local delicacies awaits you, with daily supplies of fresh lobster, prawns and the daily catch and the freshest of local vegetables from the garden. Depending on your tastes the chef will cook to order.

At the end of the garden is one of the most brilliant beaches in Sri Lanka. Completely private, very few other people (just the occasional fisherman) and you have your own private beach hut.

While Khomba is completely private, within a short walk you will have access to three neighbouring boutique hotel, which has a swimming pool which they have kindly agreed our guests can use free of charge . In addition they have a beach side bar and restaurant if you can rip yourself away from Khomba.

The area is largely undiscovered, which means there are no beach hawkers and you're encouraged to help pull in the fishermens nets.

Our team of gardeners have built a tropical paradise in the six acre harden. With an abundance of fruit trees, a coconut grove, teak plantation and a fresh water pond stuffed with Koi carp, its a paradise for the stunning local birdlife. Aside from the many tropical birds, flashing with colour, and the 1,000's of dolphins which put on a daily display, turtles are often spotted on the beach in the evening and migratory whales can be found a little further out following the continental shelf.

Khomba has four bicycles which can be used to visit the neighbouring resorts, who have kindly allowed us to use their facilities, or venture further afield to the local town.

Aside from numerous hammocks and chill out spaces the garden also has a full size badminton/volleyball pitch.

Kalpitiya has a growing reputation for wind and kite surfing during the low season on the lagoon. There are numerous local schools offering courses for beginners and experienced surfers alike.

If you are planning to include Khomba Beach House as part of a longer tour of Sri Lanka, It falls on a route which would include Wiulpatu National Park, the cultural triangle and Kandy tea estates.

Khomba was selected as one of the best beach side properties in the world by Conde Nast Magazine.

A true gem, off the beaten tracks
We've enjoyed one of the best times of our lives at Khomba House. You know that pleasant feeling when you get much (much!) more than you expected... Sisira, Indrani & staff, the house, its surroundings and the local wildlife made us feel like living in paradise.

Paradise away from it all
This was a wonderful spacious villa on a beautiful beach half way up the peninsula, away from everything. And that was heaven for us. Nothing was too much trouble for the wonderful couple looking after us. Sisara was a fantastic host and made sure everything ran so so s monthly. And Indrani is a great chef and we were so indulged with wonderful Sri Lankan food, salads and seafood. I simply can’t recommend this villa highly enough. There is a lovely green with a carp pond and bridge over it, a double swing and a palm covered hut on the beach with chairs and a table for sundowners. My daughter did kite surfing at a school about 30 minutes away in a tuk tuk (and had excellent one to one tuition), and I just chilled after my non stop cultural trip around Sri Lanka. A word of warning as with so many beachside properties the road to it is very very bumpy so warn your driver! But that, as I said , is normal.

Fantastic stay at Khoma house
Our stay at Khomba house was superb with the staff being very attentive and helpful. The food was delicious and Indrani worked tirelessly in the kitchen to ensure we were well catered for. We couldn't get enough of the local seafood! The excursions were well organised and we didn't have to worry about anything as Sisera the General Manager took care of all the details. One aspect we enjoyed was the local wildlife and we would often watch the squirrels, lizards and butterflies go about their business. One day I saw 4 peacocks walk through the garden which was a surprise. The gardens were lovely and the beach adjacent to the property was excellent for bathing with the kids and chasing small crabs. The property is in a remote location but doesn't really take away from the experience as you can still use the facilities in neighbouring resorts which are a short walk away. The local town is a short tuk tuk ride away and if you wanted there was a bigger supermarket in Puttalam accessible within a 40 min drive. We did some kitesurfing and found that Kappalady lagoon was handy for us about 30 mins up the coast. I would definitely recommend this property to those with young kids and others wanting to relax in a remote location with nice ambience.

Surprised by the stunning reality
Suitcases are empty again, so we are safe at home. It can be quite tricky (as we are used to do now for 15 years) to rent a home so far away only from pictures and a description on the Internet. We were not disappointed, on the contrary! First of all we would like to compliment the staff of Khomba House (as we also did in the Guest Book and by tipping). They are very discrete in their actions and behaviour, so guests have their respected privacy. Mr. Sariri does a good job as Butler/ General Manager of Khomba. Mrs. Indrani's cooking is superb. The best breakfasts, lunches and dinners we had in the three villa's we booked these weeks (and we never did not like any food served in these three weeks, so it's a compliment). The young couple also do their best to give you a *****Hotel feeling. The driver is punctual, helpful, relaxed and drives very safe! We had high expectations of Khomba House, but we were surprised by the stunning reality. Photo's on the site could be better as reality is even more beautiful than the pictures shown. The general and specific information you send us about Khomba House, excursions, prices, etc. was very helpful. Overall idea is that we would recommend Khomba House to everybody we know who is visiting Sri Lanka. Thank you for a wonderful week in Khomba House!

Khomba
We had an amazing time thank you! We went with the understanding that it was the windy season, so we weren’t at all disappointed by the beach. Sisira was amazing, all the staff were. He set up two trips for us to the elephant orphanage and a lagoon tour. The food was unbelievable! It was my first trip away from our kids, who are 5 and 1, so I got to relax and read and sleep whenever I wanted to which was a treat in its self! We made use of the Bar Reef pool and drank our fair share of Pina coladas! On our last day we went across to Udekki and met the very interesting Blues musician owner, who was also so accommodating and we had a drink with him. It really was an amazing trip, our first time to Sri Lanka, and I think we will definitely be back one day.

Khomba Beach was one of our best trips ever. The house is amazing, the staff fantastic, the food outstanding. We were two families with three younger kids. We did sightseeing and kitesurfing near Khomba House.

Fantastic stay at Khomba House
I have to say, Khomba house was the most beautiful, relaxing place we have ever stayed. And Sisera and Indrani are amazing. The food was heaven and now I am trying not to eat anything as can't fit into any of my clothes! Thanks so much for having us.

Excellent holiday home
The villa was outstanding, everything you want for a complete rest, the staff do look after you so very well. We had fresh meals cooked for us each day, which were different each time and so well presented and they tasted lovely, afternoon tea served with homemade cake yummy. We had a couple of trips, one was to see whales and dolphins, we saw 8 sperm whales and lots and lots of dolphins, this was arranged with Sisara the villa manager who goes out of his way to make your time at the villa so memorable, the trip to the national forest, we saw elephants, and a sloath bear which is quite rare, i think we were very lucky. Vicky the owner was easy to work with, each query dealt with promptly, highly recommended.

5 star beach house best family holiday we've had!
Khomba Beach House is heaven. Surrounded by 6 acres of gorgeous gardens, the house opens fully to the trees, birds, noises and sounds outside. The beach and sea lie just beyond this with a view through the trees. The sitting room is completely open to this view like a huge veranda. The bedrooms & bathrooms are huge, cool and well thought out and it slept nine of us comfortably. We arrived to be greeted warmly by Cissara and his wife Indrani and a cup of tea for an 8 day stay. Breakfast, lunch, tea & supper were cooked by Indrani and were delicious, varied & always Sri Lankan - just what we wanted. We didn't taste better food than this anywhere in Sri Lanka. Better still, there is no menu, no cooking, no washing up, no cleaning & it is all provided with such care & charm. The sea is warm, absolutely safe with no tide or rip currents, and not even very deep all the way out to the reef. We took two boat trips; the first was a fishing trip where we caught a barracuda (cooked by Indrani for supper), the second to see dolphin. On the second trip we saw super pods of dolphin i.e. hundreds and then, amazingly, two blue whale just 25m from the boat - a real thrill. Another excursion was to the Wilpattu National Park where we were lucky again to see a sloth bear, leopard, elk, a crocodile, colourful birds such as bee eaters and hornbill. Although it's a long time in the car, worthwhile nonetheless. A typical day was: wake and take a dip in the sea, back to the house where a cup of tea arrives magically, breakfast, back to the beach, on to the neighbouring hotel for swimming and cabanas, back to Khomba for lunch, siesta in a hammock in the garden or a massage, read, beach ball in the garden, cycle into the nearby town (bikes from Cissara), drinks, supper, bed. We stayed over Christmas and it was a treat to get away from the commercial razzmatazz, overeating & drinking. It was a real rest, the people are really charming and Khomba is exceptional. Thanks so much to the owners, Cissara and Indrani.

A wonderful beach house in undiscovered Sri Lanka
Nine of us had the most wonderful stay at Khomba over Christmas. We were blown away by the location and the fact that there were so few people in this special corner of Sri Lanka. The house itself is very stylish in design and open to the elements meaning that all the birdlife flew past the house before our very eyes. The team of Sisera, Indrane and Indaballa made our stay extremely special. They were so kind to us and Indrane is officially one of the best cooks in Sri Lanka. Every meal was different from the last and we were all blown away but the standard of cooking. We would go back to Khomba in a heartbeat and hope that this little Sri Lankan secret doesn't 'get out' in the coming years.

Khomba house - New Year
We have recently returned from a wonderful family holiday in Sri Lanka, our third trip. Khomba house is a truly beautiful place which has been done to a very high standard and is so well maintained. Sisera and his team were wonderful, nothing was a problem and service was always with a smile. Indani's cooking was out of this world and we enjoyed everything - the older children were very adventurous too and Archie (20 months) enjoyed the curd! For less adventurous palettes and on one occasion for our children, Omelettes and chips were made and Indani was very open to suggestions, e.g. pancakes and yet more pancakes for breakfast! The gardens, and quiet spaces to relax are also wonderful as is the beach hut. Sisera arranged the whale watching and we were lucky to see 7 sperm whales and 2 blue whales. We also went fishing with the older children and they caught a massive barracuda which we then ate as fish curry. We will definitely be returning to Khomba house again and we take home many fond memories that shall keep us going until the next time! Thank you, Becky, Dan, Oscar (10) Poppy (7) and Archie (20 months)

A beautiful house in an idyllic spot
After an enjoyable drive up the coast from Columbo we were greeted by the widest & warmest smile we had come across. The staff at Khomba we our first impression & they were fantastic from start to finish. They took care of every small detail, and the food was the best i have had in SL (Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall agrees!). The house itself is beautifully designed. Wide open spaces and clever positioning ensures it is cool throughout the day & night meaning we slept very well. It is slightly set back from the beach, and about 100 yards from the neighboring resort - although it feels very private as it is surrounded by foliage. We stayed for 10 days and quickly got into a very sedate lifestyle, moving from delicious meal to meal, beach to the pool etc.. You'll find it very hard to leave once you get into this routine as I had not a care in the world! I cannot recommend this place highly enough & I've been to stay in a lot of villas in SL. Many thanks to the kind owners who were very helpful before we left.
