"Kandy can be quite expensive, so we booked this place in nearby (and non-touristy) Matale for a fraction of the prices further South. It's a short walk or tuk tuk from the main bus stop. It's a wedding/reception venue with a few modest rooms and a lovely deck for meals. Our room was excellent for the price, though we chose to 'upgrade' to get the aircon remote for another USD $5. "We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Governor's Gargula. We received excellent service from the staff and the food was exceptional. The hotel is located about 6 Km outside of Dambulla and used this hotel as a base to visit many of the sites in the area (Dambula Caves, Sigiriya (Lion's) Rock, and Ruins of Polonnaruwala). Not really walkable to anywhere but most of these sites have to be driven to anyway. I would highly recommend this hotel."

"We weren't happy with our accommodation at first but after we expressed our disappointment to the Manager, he was very accommodating and offered us another room. "Hotel in the jungle with a rustic charm. Room was good with a comfortable bed. Lots of ants in the room initially but I suppose being in the jungle that’s to be expected!
