Lovely property with very nice staff. The location is perfect, just a block from the main drag in Chiang Mai so it is not as busy.
Rooms are a bit small and breakfast is not buffet style so some folks might wish for more, but I think they are both great for the price

Decent Place to Stay
We had a fine stay here. We found the hotel to be a bit more stringy and with less English-speaking workers than others we stayed at in Thailand. The location was convenient for the old city's attractions. The room itself was fine - a bit dated, but sufficient for our needs. Overall, it was a fine stay, but didn't really stand out. If I was going back to Chiang Mai, I would look elsewhere.
Very nice little place , nice helpful staff and good breakfast, located central in old town so you can walk for 20 min any direction to find new adventure , also in heart of Sunday market if your into that. Temples everywhere you walk from here. I will defiantly stay here next visit
So upon entering the room we noticed the concrete floor. Then the shower did not work and the staff promised to come fix it and never did. Room felt dirty and poorly taken care of and overall shabby. But what really made my experience poor was the fact that at 9am we heard a knock on the door. We yeld no thank you and the voice responded "can I come in?". Again we respond with no and she says "I need to come in". We hear the door get unlocked (both of us were indecent I should add) as she opens the door she notices this slams it and leaves. We brought this up at the front desk but it seemed to be of no concern to them. Very unprofessional. Stay away!
We stayed here for 4 nights in November and had a pleasant stay, the staff were very friendly and attentive, the room was comfortable and a reasonable size and there was a large communal area downstairs to sit in. Our room had a balcony which didn't have any chairs so we couldn't sit out, and also faced onto a main road so it was a bit noisy during the day and in the evenings, but quietened down later on at night. The location is very good - close to the shops, nightlife and several wats. All in all I'd recommend de Rachamanka and would stay here again.
We enjoyed our stay at the De Ratchamanka. The service was great and breakfasts good. If booking again I would probably book a front room with windows overlooking the street as our room only had a very small window looking past aircon units. The WiFi was free but didn't work in our room. The ladies running the hotel were very helpful and friendly. The position of the hotel in the Old City is very good.
The hotel is very nice staff is very helpful try to help everything I feel like my home if I come again I will stay this hotel Definetly and also location is good
We like:
- the location; 10-min drive from/ to the airport, 2-min walk to the Sunday market and Wat Chedi and minutes walks or drives to other Chiang Mai attractions, like Doi Suthep, etc
- friendly and helpful receptionist staffs
- overall value of low rate versus the benefits (tasty and sufficient breakfast, clean room, central location)

Awesome staff and quite cheap
The hotel gets you by and is what you should expect for $40.
The room we had had no windows, was small and scary. The hotel claimed breakfast included but only had coffee tea and toast and charged for anything else. The staff was not helpful but always tried to sell you more services. I would never stay ther again and advise anyone to go elsewhere .

IT was all about the staff
Jim and Som the two girls who work at the hotel during the day are really what makes this hotel stand out among inexpensive hotels.
This hotel is not the Sheridan, but when you pay this rate you know that coming in. I had a down stairs room that smelled of Pine Sol and was very clean, but the next day I asked for a upstairs room as the smell was bothering me. JIm got me a upstairs room in the back part of the hotel that was clean, fresh smelling and quiet.
When my wife got sick from street food, Jim and Som made her rice soup to nourish her.
My daughter and her fiancé were staying in another room, they had the neighbor from hell that kept a TV on full volume all night. Again Jim and Som solved the problem and moved them to a quieter room.
If your looking for a bargain, this is it, if your looking for a delux room it is not, but Jim and Som will make your stay worthwile if you choose the de Rachamanka.

Adequate but not lovely
We stayed for two nights at the de Rachamanka because our favorite hotel around the corner was booked (we were able to move there after 2 nights, luckily). The location is great - we come to Chiang Mai every year and love the central location in Old Town by Wat Chedi Luang - but the hotel itself is just okay. We stayed in the Junior Suit, and enjoyed having a living room, but in general the room was a little funky. The staff was pleasant, but we were a little disappointed that after the delicious fresh espresso-maker coffees the first morning, the next day we were told they had changed their system, and now we had to use serve-yourself powdered instant coffee! Ugh! So very 1990s Thailand, practically inexcusable for how much great fresh coffee is available EVERYWHERE now, all over Thailand.
Really impressed with the location and the comfort of the room, but it was the staff that truly made it a "must return" hotel. Looking forward to our next trip to Chiang Mai!
