Hidden gem close to Calibishie
We stayed at the Villa with 4 people. Villa has a simple lay out but perfect to feel right at home. You can enjoy sun or shade in the front or back of the property all day long. It's very peaceful. There is some construction being done for a few new cabanas but this makes the property even better to accommodate a bigger group or a large extended family for vacation. You can enjoy a delicious breakfast lunch or dinner and drinks with your toes in the sand at the beach bar at the property this is a hidden gem and unbelievable beautiful location. Palm trees and umbrellas for shade. It also has a safe area to swim and cool down in the ocean. And there is are rocks to explore. The kitchen at the villa could use some better tools. Shopping I would defenitely recommend to go for groceries to the local markets the stores have limited food. The Manager was so nice to bake us some soy free bread because we couldnt find it in the stores. They where always there to help or answer questions and even picked us up from the airport when our rental company was not there to give us the car we arranged. Better to rent from the company they recommend. The Manager arranged a car the next morning. There is another great beach close by called Batibou Beach worth to explore. The island itself is called the Nature Island and if you feel adventures there is a ton to do and the island is so green everywhere you go. So glad we picked this villa on this beautiful island.

Beautiful and private 2 bedroom with a pool above a boutique mini resort..
In northeast coast of Dominica (town of Calibishie) with light colored sand beach and views of red rocks and cliffs. This was the perfect escape for our family of four. We wanted to travel to the island for its unspoiled lush rain forests and beaches and we could not have found a better place to do our 7 day February break. The house had a good layout with the kitchen and living area to separate the identical master bedrooms. The veranda which is accessed from all the rooms led to the infinity pool with amazing views of the surrounding forest, sea and cliffs. The beach was a mere 90-100 steps away down a paved path from the house where you will also find the resort's outdoor restaurant and bar with a sandy floor. There was relaxing tasteful wooden lounge chairs and the palm/coconut trees provide ample shade. Great small area for swimming and snorkeling as there are corals just a few strokes away. The food and drinks they served were fresh and delicious. Plenty of birdwatching opportunities. Nearby is a small chocolate factory worth stopping by. Our hosts Jenny and Mauro were very warm and hospitable and the staff, Junior, and waitresses were delightful. To note some challenges, we only had one fan and there was no AC so we gave them to our children to use in their bedroom- it did get quite warm a few nights and an extra fan would have helped. Fresh produce and meats were hard to come by at local grocery stores which makes self-catering limited and leaves us to eat out often (food and drinks are not cheap in the resort restaurant and in the island). On our last day, perhaps due to a rainstorm, our electricity cut out a few times for a total of 6+ hours. Just a few snags that did not by any means ruin any part of our wonderful unique and special experience.

Lovely, unique, quiet resort
With only two cabanas and one guest house thus far, Escape Dominica is a unique, quiet, restful resort. The owners are attentive and gracious and anxious to please their guests. The cabanas are spacious, clean, and nicely renovated (some amenities that would have made them even more comfortable: a luggage rack, shampoo/conditioner, a bit more sink space). The tiki bar serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner and all meals are excellent. The fish cakes were our favorite each day for lunch and the mahi mahi for dinner was superb. The rum punch was the best we have ever had. Our only suggestion re food/beverage would be the coffee which tasted like instant and just didn't satisfy each morning. The location and view of the ocean is probably the best on the island...very private and amazing red rock bordering the beach...very comfortable lounge chairs for guests. This is a new resort and the owners are clearly working hard to make it even more lovely than it already is. One final suggestion...better signage on the road as our taxi driver could not find the resort and relied on the locals to point us in the right direction several times. We do highly recommend Escape Dominica...especially as a last stop on the island as it puts visitors in close proximity to the airport for departure.

Stunning location
We stayed at this property over Christmas and New Year's. We are a family of four. I have traveled fairly extensively in the Caribbean and Dominica is truly the most beautiful, unspoiled island I have ever visited. The house was comfortable and the view truly stunning. We had the gorgeous beach almost entirely to ourselves. Jen cooked some delicious meals for us and she was incredibly warm and friendly, as were all of the people we met in Dominica. We felt completely safe with Pierre patrolling the property every night. If you are looking for a vacation that is truly off the beaten path and offers the rewards of stunning, unspoiled natural beauty, as well as a chance to experience the local culture than this is the place for you. To address some of the other reviews, we had no problems at all with the bats (a very occasional one swooped by to the delight of our kids) and the pool and appliances worked perfectly. We did have a shower-head break but it was fixed immediately. If you want to be segregated from the local culture in a walled off, touristy resort than look elsewhere. Our family cannot wait to return to Dominica and stay in this wonderful villa again someday.

We had the most amazing vacation!
We had a great time staying at red rock haven. Our family includes 3 kids 6 and under. We had terrific adventures hiking to waterfalls, visiting a Rastafarian farm in the mountains, paddling up Indian River and hitting the beaches. The house is simple and very nice. Jen babysat (and was beloved) by our 8-month-old daughter allowing us to take the kids on hikes that otherwise would have been impossible. Elaine arranged wonderful tour guides for us. In response to the last posting, the owners are very responsive to any issues with the property. The fridge has been replaced. There are devices in the bedrooms to keep bats away (there still are a few bats around the property, but I didn't see any in the bedrooms so they seem to work, you could sleep under mosquito nets but we didn't except for our baby). There is a security guard who visits the property in the evening and morning. Bottom line is that this is an open-air house in a natural setting in Dominica, not an a/c resort in the Bahamas. You need to be careful and prudent, there are risks, but it is a trip unlike any other.

Neglected and not safe
My husband and I rented Red Rock for 18 days. Upon our arrival the fridge, pool, one shower, one toilet and the fans above the beds did not work. We had @50 bats flying out of the house, that lived in the rocks that made up the interior walls, @ 5:30 every night and then fly back into the walls @ 5:30 every morning. The pool jets, lights and filter were not in working order our whole stay. We had to run the hose about 5 hrs a day to insure there would be water to take a dip. They fixed the second toilet 5 days after our arrival which was handy since we had four guests join us for a week. And fixed the fridge 3 days after our arrival. Then the fridge broke again one week before we were to check out spoiling a lot of food and no ice for drinks or cold beer. But the big disappointment was when we were robbed of all our cash from our wallets, three safes and one worked part of the time, while we were sleeping. They also took the big screen TV. Not sure what els was taken because we got out of there as fast as we could. Our driver, house manager and another local business owner that came straight away after we woke up and realized what happened all said we were very luck to have not woken up while being robbed that night.Scary. We locked the place up tight and left the lights on at night. For the price we payed there should have been security or gates that were in working order.

Excellent getaway !
Thank you for the opportunity to stay in such a great villa. The views are amazing and the beach as well as the pool and overall property were terrific. Elaine (housekeeper) was very helpful and wonderful. Jen Jen, the cook, was great. She prepared several delicious dinners for us. Both are sweet ladies and a real positive addition to our experience. We spent two days with Nigel guiding us to various locations on the island. He was also a great find and we highly recommend him. We liked the Rainbow restaurant best of the nearby ones we sampled We could have stayed longer !! ... but the 2 weeks were delightful.

Wedding in Paradise
WOW! Red Rock Haven exceeded every single expectation! We came to Dominica with 8 other people to get married. We had a fantastic time and thoroughly enjoyed the property. Honestly we had quite a few people, the house would be better suited to accommodate about 6 max, but we made it work. Beautiful and secluded property in the charming town of Calabishie on the North East Coast. Super private, gated property with a long and winding driveway leading to a gorgeous stone and wood open air house. Great open floor plan with covered porches on the front and back. Open kitchen overlooks the living area, infinity pool and the most amazing view. Bedrooms on either side of the living area with private baths. We were disappointed the splash pools off each bathroom were not working, but we made the most of them anyway and turned them into a sunken star gazing sitting area. Delightful breezes blow in from the blue Atlantic and the waves can be heard throughout the house. Beautiful infinity pool overlooks the property and the absolutely best views you can imagine. A sloped winding path off the pool area leads down to the old bar and restaurant and past other rental units (all were empty when we stayed) and to Pointe Baptiste Beach. It was mostly deserted the entire time we stayed, though it is a public beach. It is here you will really see why the house is called Red Rock Haven. The house is open air, so we enjoyed visits from bats and birds flying through the house, so amazing! The housekeeper Elaine was absolutely fantastic - she was so personable and helpful. She even brought snake fat - a topical ointment for my groom who fell and twisted his ankle badly (don't worry it was his fault). Jen Jen the cook is amazing - she made us curried chicken, rice, plantains and salad on our first night here. We truly enjoyed ourselves, going to the local market in Calabishie (though it is very limited). We asked locals where to find fresh fish, fruits and vegetables and were able to get fish directly from the fishermen right off the boat. We purchased a whole Mahi Mahi for $7EC/lb! What a deal! We purchased the best bananas, mangoes, limes and avocado from a local, Neville in Calabishie. What a character he is! We were supposed to get married at Emerald Pool, but due to my now husband's accident we had to change the venue to the Red Rock house, which was perfect! We were married next to the infinity pool overlooking the Atlantic. One of the owners, Gina helped us through the legal

Stunning
We stayed here for four nights over Christmas very last minute when we didn't like other accommodation we had booked into. We had looked at the villa initially but decided it was too expensive for just the two of us - well, I'm really glad we ended up staying here, and I think for what you get it is good value, and would be even more so if there were four of you! The whole house feels luxurious but in a way that is in tune with its surroundings, especially with it being open to the breezes and the sound of the sea. Really comfortable beds too. The pool area is lovely, and that double hammock one of my favourite ever places to chill. It's a short stroll down to a lovely beach that never had many/any people on, it was beautiful to sit there and bring picnics down from the house, and we also brought our coffee and tea down each morning to enjoy the early morning light before getting on with the day. The sea was a little too rough to swim in when we were there. Calibishie is a nice town, we would recommend eating at Poz, for the atmosphere and good international food, and because Poz is a fab guy who helped us out by getting us some fish to BBQ when he was going into town. It was amazing - we marinated some of the tuna and ate it raw as tuna tartar on pineapple, yum! and also recommend the casual restaurant behind the supermarket for delicious excellent value local food. Overall Calibishie is great and the villa is wonderful. We were really sad to leave.

Hidden haven...
We arrived late evening in the dark and had to wait till the next morning to discover what beautiful spot we had landed in! The house is located in a lush, green setting 5 minutes from a secluded beach / bay. The house has a homely feel to it, though we didnt expect the roof to be 'open' this turned out to be a good way of having a nice breeze flowing. We found what we were looking for, quietness and GREAT FOOD thanks to Jen and the friendly locals in Calibishie.

Beautiful Villa, Perfect Setting and Great People
I should have written this review months ago. My husband, three children and I spent the 10 days surrounding New Year's at Red Rock Haven Ocean Villa. Stacey, Rita and Rhiann made our stay so very special. Our daughters truly enjoyed Rhiann's adventures hiking around the beaches and being the special person she is made for a wonderful trip for both of our daughters. Stacy and Rita are amazing people, we enjoyed seeing so much of Dominica with them and learning about the island they love so much. Within moments of arriving I had a coconut in my hand (thank you, Danny) with a splash of rum and I was on vacation. There are endless opportunities for hiking, climbing, sight-seeing or you can just enjoy the absolutely beautiful home Stacy made for all to enjoy. It looks and feels just like in the photos shown here. Fantastic service each day from a wonderful woman who visits each morning and cleans up around the house and is kind and filled with information about the area. Jen, is an amazing cook! We should have enjoyed her cooking for more than one night, well next time. It is a beautiful home in the perfect location. Rita set up a massage for me right out by the pool! To walk down a few steps and enjoy the beautiful beach is amazing. Dominica makes you feel healthy and Red Rock Haven makes you feel like royalty -- it's a nice combination. Dan and I can't wait to return to the Villa and enjoy more of what Dominica has to offer and spend time in Calabishie (very friendly town) and enjoy good times with Stacy and Rita!

As good as it gets!
This villa is an open air house, in the canopy of the jungle, just 30 seconds from the beach. The gorgeous stone house has a large flat screen TV, Apple TV, high speed wireless internet, and a great stereo! You might think "so what"; but take your iPhone or iPad and you might appreciate the luxury of your music in the evenings around the infinity pool. The entrance to the secreted property is gated, but candidly, we rarely locked the gate. Same with the house. We never felt unsafe nor vulnerable to theft. But, there is a safe in each room for your valuables. The home is just how it is described online. Entering into the kitchen/living space, you have a separately enclose bedroom on each side. Each bedroom has a king size bed and a private bath suite. There is plenty of closet space, and some drawer space on the bathroom. Each bath has a nice shower, and a dual sink. Rollaway beds are also in each room. The bedrooms and center living space open onto the stone patio with the pool. There is sturdy outdoor furniture, and even a hammock. The patio in the back is perched over the ocean below. In fact, you can see and hear the ocean from every place in the house, except the bathrooms! With the tradewinds always blowing, the house remains constantly cool, even when the sun is at its peak. The beach below is good for a dip and has some decent snorkeling. There are masks, snorkels and fins in the pool house. The humidity in the jungle can be hard on appliances, but the place was incredibly clean considering its constant exposure to mother nature. A local woman comes every day for an hour to clean up, sweep, and do the linens. She is fabulous, funny, polite, and more than willing to adjust her schedule to yours. At Red Rock, it's all about you! There is a cook available for a reasonable rate, but we did not need that service. The owners live close by, and are there for you in a moments notice. They can answer every question you have about the area and its attractions. They were also helpful with pre-trip planning. One thing that remains with me is the genuine friendliness of the people of Calibishie. You can have all the privacy you want at Red Rock, but without effort, if you wish, you will be warmly welcomed by the neighborhood, and the village. It's a wonderful getaway location that has everything you could wish for. And if by chance you wished for something not there, my guess is the people of Calibishie would find it for you. This place is truly magical.

Red Rock Haven
My husband and I stayed at Red Rock Haven for 9 days. It's was wonderful. The house is gorgeous and the view in my opinion is the best on the island. The owners Stacey and Rita were very warm and welcoming and were always on hand for any questions or concerns we had. They also have 2 dogs that my husband and I got attached to right away, and they allowed us to keep them at the property during our stay. That small gesture, which to some may seem silly to some, made it feel like a home to us. Jen the cook made amazing meals for us and was a pleasure to be around. The beach below is a secret paradise just like the house. If I could I'd buy the property. What a great adventure and experience we'll never forget.

Simple but beautifully finished villa with two luxurious bedrooms. The hosts are fun, sincere, gracious, and helpful. The little beach is very nice and the restaurant and bar has some great items and perfect beachfront ambiance. The location is set apart from some of the more popular attractions in the south of the island but if tourists are what you are looking for Dominica is not for you anyway. I would go back in a second.

Unparalleled Caribbean Experience
We will start by saying we have never taken the time to write a travel review, and unless we experience something as fantastic as what we just did at Red Rock Haven in Dominica, not sure we will find the same urge to do so again. Stacey and Rita were more than fabulous hosts, and go above and beyond to ensure that the Dominica experience is amazing---looking back it makes us wonder why we ever decided to leave! We stayed in both the beach/jungle room as well as the villa and both were truly unique experiences. The island is unspoiled and Red Rock Haven offers a paradise that cannot be duplicated anywhere else---amazing accommodations, food, drinks, beach, landscape, and people. We could go on and on, but the same incredible experiences seem to be echoed on the major review sites by every guest that stays here. Thanks again Stacey and Rita---we can't wait to come back to visit Dominica and its greatest family again! Cheers!

Beautiful Dominica
This is one of the most beautiful, non-touristy, pristine islands I have ever visited. The home sits above the most idyllic beach you could ever imagine. The walk to the beach takes about two minutes from the pool patio. Complete privacy and perfect, breath taking views. Always an ocean breeze so you are never hot. The beds are super comfortable and the baths, kitchen, bedrooms and living spaces are very spacious. The bedrooms are on opposite sides of the home so there is no lack of privacy. Our host were very sweet and accommodating and there is always someone at the beach bar if you ever have a question or need help. The water is solar heated so the showers were always warm but if you like really hot showers you may be out of luck. A small price to pay for the joy of staying at Red Rock.
