Casa Del Caribe with Bali Style Pool for Rent in Cocles, 300 meters from beach

Forget your alarm clock; awaken to the sounds of conga/howler monkeys and tropical birds in this Caribbean style home with Bali Style Pool just 300 meters from Cocles Beach for surfing, swimming and sun bathing.

Made of Costa Rican hardwoods and ceramic tiles, this nearly 2000 square feet, 2 BR/2&1/2 Baths home has an open floor plan with Bali Style Pool downstairs where the hummingbirds like to visit, and a wrap around balcony upstairs with 2 spacious bedrooms. The pool was added to the house in September of 2022. The home is surrounded by forests and beautiful fruit trees affording a lot of privacy (with luck you might see toucans eating the papaya); and yet you will not be isolated as there are neighbors close by. The next door neighbor has a guide and taxi service. And another neighbor, Johanna, (just a 2 minute walk away) has a very nice family run restaurant (called a soda in Costa Rica). You must try her Caribbean style corvina (sea bass). A car is not necessary as you will be only minutes walking or biking for anything you may want to see: beautiful beaches, jaguar refuge, horseback riding, restaurants, night life, grocery stores, internet cafe, etc. As an option, 4 banana bikes are at the home available for your use for an extra fee of $5 day/bike, with 2 boogie/body boards included for playing in the ocean. The banana bikes are a popular way to see the sights (if you need more, others are available in town for $6-7/day/bike).

The home is located in Miss Winnie Town, a small community within the city of Cocles, less than 2 miles south of Puerto . In the neighborhood there are vacation and permanent Tico homes(Tico is a friendly nickname for a Costa Rican). Here you will enjoy a lot of privacy and at the same time you will have friends and neighbors close to you. Thanks for your interest in this wonderful home we call Casa del Caribe in Costa Rica's most beautiful and most unspoiled tropical paradise!

A jungle oasis
We had a wonderful adventure with Casa del Caribe as our home base. It really feels like you are staying in the jungle, but with plenty of creature comforts. The jungle plants keep the property shady, the fans keep the rooms cool at night, and the pool is great to cool off in. There was lots of wildlife activity day and night. A bat family roosted by the bedroom door each day (we did rescue a baby bat from the pool with Jess's help - will never forget that!). Birds and monkeys create a really cool soundscape around the bungalow. One day we got rained out and we were a little bummed until we got back to the bungalow to find a visitor! A sleepy sloth! My son was SO excited! He slept in a backyard tree for nearly a whole day! By 4pm the sloth was very active and entertained us for quite a while before moving on to the next yard. Shelly was always super quick to answer any questions before our arrival and during our stay. She is a great host! We will miss our time at Casa del Caribe and always remember it!

Several concerns
We stayed at this house in Cocles for 5 days in the middle of March 2024. This is our 6th trip to Costa Rica but first time traveling to the Puerto Viejo/Cocles area. Prior to our trip we had concerns about bugs in the home and being able to stay cool at night given the open air style home. The owner mentioned that those are not complaints she has heard of in the past. I wanted to give others a first hand account of our experience. The positives: Shelly and her son are really nice people and attentive to communication via email and WhatsApp. The location is great. Close to beaches and restaurants. The splash pool was really nice The negatives: cleanliness of grounds: Lots of dead branches and leaves around the yard with black plastic fencing between the yards. Trash scattered around the backyard (old tools, buckets, paint cans). The home: Quite a few bugs in the home. Returning home from this location our family has never had so many bug bites. Given the outdoor living arrangement some bug bites were to be expected but it was overwhelming. Halfway through our trip, 3 of our 5 family members experienced extensive bug bites over most of our bodies and we suspected bed bugs. This was confirmed when we returned home. I told the owner of this problem so hopefully she will replace the mattresses. Other: Hot bedrooms, uncomfortable beds and pillows. We would not stay here again despite the friendly owner.

Amazing Family Spot
We had an amazing time diving into the culture of the local towns. Shelly was amazing in giving us ideas and off the beaten path recommendations for food and adventure spots. The house was a great place for our family to relax and the pool was a great break from the ocean. You can walk or ride to all the nearby beaches towns and restaurants. Highly recommend!

Awesome place!
We fell in love with this place! The wood is so thick and sturdy and beautiful, we keep looking at houses to buy and haven’t found anything close to the natural beauty of this open and spacious wooden home. We all loved swings by the pool and one of the kids every morning went and laid in the hammock upstairs to bird and monkey watch. We loved hearing all of the birds and animals everyday and miss it all terribly since we’ve been home! The kitchen was very well stocked and we enjoyed cooking meals daily! We loved how there are 2 grocery stores in walking distance and the restaurant around the corner was one of our family favorites, we walked there twice! We rented a car and drove around a lot, enjoying the few minutes drive into Puerto Viejo to all of the restaurants and shops there quite often. The Indian restaurant was the best Indian food we’ve ever had and we’ve had a lot. The Coral Pool near the restaurant down the street was the best bonus in the area for us! We had two boys with us ages 10 and 12 and I felt so happy and peaceful knowing they could swim in there free of rip currents. We visited there almost daily and enjoyed locals offering us fresh exotic fruits to try. We will greatly miss this beautiful home, very nice people and area so much! Oh and the property manager Fred and next door neighbor Jess were so wonderful and helpful if we needed anything they were right there for us! I will highly recommend to everyone I know!

This property is paradise! The house is stunning. Beautiful wood and art throughout. The highlight of our time here was definitely swimming in the gorgeous pool (especially when we came back from our adventures and needed to cool down). Excellent location… short walk to the beach, restaurants and grocery stores. Our host, Shelly, was SPECTACULAR! She arranged transportation for us,as well set us up for tours/adventures. She was always quick to respond to our hundreds of questions. We could not have asked for a better experience. Already looking forward to our return trip in the future.

Magical Place
The house was everything promised and more. Waking up to the feeling that you are in the middle of the rainforest but in the comfort of a beautiful place. It was a dream come true. The house has a beautiful design that fits the ambiance. The pool was just what we needed at the right time every minute of the day. The property was very clean and well maintained. The look from the balcony was great. The neighborhood was very safe even when walking late at night through the paths to get to the house. The location was very convenient. Walking distance to a beautiful beach, restaurants and grocery stores. The bikes probably need some work but we had a blast taking them out. Shelly was great and was prompt to answer all our questions. We will be back!!

The host Shelly goes above and beyond to make your stay as lovely as possible. The house had everything we needed and more. It’s close to some really nice grocery stores and Puerto Viejo town is just a tuk tuk or a bike ride away. We really enjoyed exploring different beaches with the banana bikes and coming home to a refreshing dip in the pool at night. Highly recommend to families of friends.

Got what we called the Costa Rica “feel”
The property is exactly like the pictures! Felt like we were in the jungle but yet we were safe and sound with a few homes around. We were able to walk to town - yes a bit of a walk but what a great way to see everything. We also used the bikes to ride to UVA beach which was beautiful. Fred the neighbor/property manager greeted us and was lovely. Gave us some bananas for our ride out …. Definitely a great place to unwind! We even saw a sloth from our balcony, a Tucan in the tree and little green and black frogs!

Relax, Unwind, Reset
When I booked this trip for my son and I, I had no idea the impact it would have on the both of us. The pictures of the house do not do it justice. It is so much more. We truly felt like we were in the jungle, even though we had houses around us which was comforting. The house was spotless and the open air concept was amazing. Every morning I would drink my coffee on the balcony and listen to various wildlife. Even though I didn't cook, the kitchen had all of the amenities of home. Shelly, the owner, was so helpful to answer any question I had about the property, restaurants or activities in the area. She was very quick to respond and even came to our rescue when we became stranded. Fred, the property manager, did the same as well. A must do is the snorkeling tour/national park combo guided by Fred himself. We saw 9 sloths, an eyelash pit viper and many other animals that we would have missed without him. This property and the people we met will be in our memories forever. I hope to come back!

Rustic, beautiful, relaxing - right in the arms of nature! Such lovely decor and amenities, that helped us to relax!! Shelly, the owner, and Fred, the manager were extremely communicative/responsive and have everything set up for convenience. The location itself is tucked away - quiet and soothing - and yet, is also very convenient, as it is only a short walk to the beach, shopping, food etc. Fred also provided fantastic advice and recommendations on the area (and freshly picked fruit!!). Just FYI, the residence boasts VERY effective skylights! We didn't mind at all as it helped us to get our days started early, and we slept well nonetheless. We are so happy we found Casa Del Caribe and hope to be back!

Beautiful house in a great location
My husband and I and two sons (age 6 and 9) had a lovely stay here. The kids loved the open air downstairs, and all the plants, frogs, and hummingbirds in the yard. We rented the bikes and snorkels which I would highly recommend. We spent many hours snorkeling, and the bikes allowed us to explore further. There are restaurants and beaches all up and down the main road. It is a little busy, and took some learning on my kids' part to navigate the traffic, but overall it felt safe to bike around during the day. Fred, the property manager, lives next door and was very helpful. He taught the boys about banana trees, and he set us up with Jungle Man, a tour guide to take us into Cahuita National Park. That was fantastic and I would highly recommend him, especially if you have kids who love animals. Overall a very nice stay!

Paradise in Costa Rica Carribean
Shelly is a fantastic host. She was informative and very helpful with all our inquiries prior to arriving and during our stay. She was welcoming and hospitable. The home is spacious, clean, and has a colorful Carribean vibe. The porch was my favorite with hammocks and comfortable swings to relax and enjoy the tropical plants, trees, and animals and birds. We felt like we were nestled in the jungle, however there were friendly neighbors if we needed anything or wanted a tour to any of the attractions in Limon. The VRBO is in a quiet peaceful area, but only a short taxi , bike ride, or walk to nice beaches, shopping,, delicious Carribean food, and fun night life in Puerto Veijo. This area has a great community of welcoming and laid back people. We loved Shelly, the VRBO and Cocles and honestly we didn't want to leave. I highly recommend to stay here to anyone who enjoyes the finer things in life!

Great stay
We stayed at Casa del Caribe for almost a month and a half. It's a beautiful place, bigger and nicer than it looks in the pictures and video. We had been concerned about the lack of screens on the windows, but it turned out to be no issue at all. The wooden shutters are great, the beds have nets, and the rooms are well-ventilated (good fans on ceiling and floor). The house is very well-taken care of - clean, clearly loved. The open floor on the first floor is lovely and allows you to stay outside all the time. Hammocks and chairs for relaxing are all around the house, although the living room furniture is better looking than functional - would have loved a comfortable couch at times. The location is great - there are houses all around, but lots of privacy too. A short walk to the grocery store and restaurants and the beach, which we loved and visited daily, especially in the mornings when the waves and currents are calmer. There's a lot of wildlife to see nearby - lots of great birds, a huge iguana (by the bridge), and a sloth that will show up in your actual yard - we saw her holding her baby in the trees over the bike rack. The property manager, Fred, lives next door and is a wonderful guy. We really enjoyed getting to know him and he was super-responsive and helpful. The owner Shelly was kind and friendly, but not particularly responsive to texts and emails. A discount we had negotiated never came through. This is a great place to stay, highly recommended. The bikes make it easy to visit many nearby towns (bikes are pretty safe, and terrain is flat). And there's plenty to see and do within an easy walk, including live music, fine dining, family restaurants and cafes, roadside fruit stands, full grocery stores, surf lessons, everything.

Casa del Caribe ...Love you and miss you!
To say Casa del Caribe is an awesome home to rent in Cocles is true, but it is so much more than that. It is a unique and memorable experience! Jungle living at it's finest! The sounds at night, the birds and howl monkeys in the morning, bird watching and sloth stalking from the top deck...short walk to beach and warm ocean swim.... so chill!! Huge shout out to FRED, whom made us feel comfortable and safe from the moment we arrived, and showed us a great time on his wildlife and waterfall tours (highly recommended!). He lives in the house next door and is eager to help with anything you need, is warm and friendly and being a local, can advise you on anything from where to eat, to places to explore and the best way to get there. Shelly, the owner, is also a gem From start to finish, she went out of her way to help me sort out transportation and graciously accommodated a modification in my travel plans. An awesome experience, all around! Loved every bit of it and can't wait to return.

Lovely place that needs some TLC
First of all I want to acknowledge Fred who picked us up from the bus in PV bc we had lost our phone and had no idea how to get to the property. Shelley was very gracious in helping us during a personal crisis. This is a well appointed house. There are many different places to sit on both floors, which makes it lovely to hang out at the house. The master bedroom is airy - an octaganol room with windows/door on three sides. The second bedroom is a bit dark and has just enough room for the two queen beds. The location is great: a 20m walk to PV and 5m walk to the beach. Be aware, you are in a residential area - so you might be able to hear the howler monkeys (we did faintly), but you are also able to hear the construction next door and the neighbour's activities, so it is not really private. There were no bugs anywhere in the house. We hardly saw a mosquito and no infestations of ants etc. Just be aware, the oven and dryer don't work and some of the kitchen appliances are a bit antiquated - it took an hour for the coffee to percolate (we fixed it). The outside shower leaks, so you need to turn it off at the faucet. If you want to use the bikes, it sounds like you need to give the owner notice. There was no boogie board there so we rented one for $20 a day! Overall I would say this is a lovely house, however we would have expected the appliances and amenties listed on the vrbo site to have been in better conditon.

Casa Del Caribe is superb!
The casa is located in an ideal setting off of the main road between PV and Cocles, and at the end of a quiet road. The house itself is beautiful, high vaulted ceilings, Costa Rican vibe with all the ideals of island living and great amenities. Within reach was the property manager, whom provided good insight into yours, local attractions, and helping us get settled in. The location can allow a bike ride to Puerto Viejo (2km), and Punta UVA is just 5km. A car is helpful but not fully necessary. The house has two large bedrooms, great balcony and shared space, hammocks and other swinging chairs, and a beautiful feeling of being part of something unique in Cocles. We cannot wait to visit again!
