The building is dated and has a funky smell in the halls. Lots of hot water and pressure. Location is good for an evening walk to restaurants. "Despite the short stay we were able to enjoy Belem despite its reputation for being an unsafe city. Though most residents only speak Portuguese, we who speak English only were able to communicate with almost all those we approached. The people were very friendly."
