Bayou Life Lodging, Charter Fishing, Ecotourism. Only 25 miles to French Quarter

Recently picked as the #2 "Magnificent Escapes in Louisiana"!

Only 25 miles to New Orleans' French Quarter and Bourbon Street but worlds away as you sit overlooking one of Louisiana's most famous Bayous. Bayou Barataria which once was the home of Pirate Jean Lafitte. From the largest and nicest decks and docks in the Lafitte/Barataria area you can sit over the water as you take in the beautiful views of the bayou and Bayou Life.

Don't be fooled by other listings in the area that aren't even near the water or is a house crammed together with many other houses on a man made canal with only the view of houses next to, across, and behind you. Please check out our views and then compare it to all the others....there is no comparison. Those rentals you will not be able to see the beautiful sunrises and sunsets on the bayou....just look at the pictures of the beautiful sunrises and sunsets from this home and decide where you would rather be.
This unique home overlooks the real natural Louisiana bayou and marshes providing the perfect setting to experience the serenity and beauty of the Bayou Life!

Our unique place provides direct access to the Bayou for fishing, boating, kayaking, paddle boarding, or just relaxing. Fish and crab from the dock, keep your boat in the water ready to go, or our fishing guides can pick you up from your backdoor. Fish, crab, live the Bayou Life and be a New Orleans tourist all in the same trip!

Bayou Life Charter Fishing offers a complete fishing experience package. Our fishing guides pick you up right from the back door on the largest dock in the area. Relax, drink your coffee on the dock as the sun rises, and step straight on to the boat. We are at the end of the Lafitte/Barataria area so the boat ride to your fishing hole is that much closer. After booking contact us and we will arrange the perfect fishing and Bayou Life experience. We can also set up swamp tours, boating excursions, sunset wine cruises, and morning breakfast excursion by boat to a local restaurant on a barge. We even have unique access to a neighbors softshell crab experience not offered anywhere else. Come for a visit and we can make sure you have a unique, complete Bayou Life experience.

No other rental will provide a more complete Bayou Life experience. We provide crab traps and fishing poles complete with bait to experience catching your own dinner the Bayou Life way. With provided notice we can even bait the traps and set them out prior to your arrival so they can start catching dinner. Each rental will have 5 lbs of jumbo shrimp caught by neighboring fishermen (contact me at booking to reserve). No better way to start off livin’ the Bayou Life than with fresh local jumbo shrimp for dinner....Bayou Life lagniappe.

We provide so much more than any other rental....even a commercial ice machine for FREE ICE! Completely equipped with BBQ, smoker, fire pit, and patio furniture for a relaxing and enjoyable Bayou Life experience. Kitchen is completely stocked with all the pots, pans, utensils, and gadgets you could want as well as an extensive amount of spices, condiments, salad dressings, and much more so you don't have to waste time and money at the grocery store. Even has a boiling pot setup to boil up seafood. And if that wasn't enough there are kayaks, a paddle board, crab traps, and fishing poles for your use.

If you choose to hit Bourbon Street and do a little partying don't worry about driving....No problem getting to and from the New Orleans French Quarter....I have several Uber drivers on call and ready to take you to and from the New Orleans French Quarter or anywhere in New Orleans at any time of the day or night.

Boat may be kept during your stay in the water tied to the dock. Dock is equipped with ropes, cleats, and bumpers. There is plenty of parking available with additional space if needed on an adjacent lot. You have room to keep several cars and boats on trailers in this area.

The property has two rental units. Each are completely independent and on separate floors. The only shared areas are the outside docks, decks, and patios....there are several docks, decks, and patios providing plenty of room. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have. For larger groups contact me about using the other unit which sleeps an additional 10 people. If this property is booked or if you want a single unit home please contact me...I have another beautiful home next door that may be of interest to you.

Loved the Bayou Life
Quiet location on the bayou less than an hour south of New Orleans. We had a wonderful time. We especially enjoyed interactions with Morgan and friends, relaxing on the dock, the views, fishing expedition, crab and shrimp boil on the property, tour of the soft shell crab facility nearby, and other recommendations. We stayed in the third floor unit which was well maintained and provided everything we needed. Would definitely stay again. Loved the Bayou Life!

Not salt water fishing!
Loved the area. Very quiet! If you are expecting to fish from the pier and catch good fish to keep this is not the place. I wish someone would have stated in previous reviews about the mixture of water. It is salt and fresh. We fished the pier every day we were there. Only fish caught hardheads, blue cats, and gafftops. Went out one day with a charter and limited out in reds. So if you are looking to fish and bring home fish this area is not for you. Home and owner are great. I came to fish and was disappointed. So if you bring your boat or if you go out on a guide everyday you will have a blast catching fish. Just want people to know that this is not all salt water and they do not have live bait except for one place that had live minnows. Frozen shrimp is the go to for this area. Overall if I wanted somewhere to hang out that was quiet and not fishing this would be it. Well kept homes and yards very clean in this town.

Quiet bayou house
Our stay was everything we were going for. Morgan checked in with us to make sure it was great. This is a 3rd floor home. That means yes there are stairs. Seeing other reviews and guest book messages people were amazed there were stairs and that was a compliant. Know what your booking ahead of time, yes stairs, but great quiet house on the bayou. Book the charter with big dog and you won’t be disappointed!

Bayou Living for sure.
This is our first experience in the area. The property was clean, comfortable, and quiet. If you are into fishing, crabbing, boating, this is the place to come. We are not any of those and chose the location as a halfway driving point to Fredericksburg TX to view the April 8 total eclipse. The view is what nailed the location down when I was looking for a halfway point. Some fantastic sunrises! There are a couple of points to be aware of. This is a third floor unit with 3 levels of stairs. Be prepared to get your steps in! Have a strong person with you to help get things up the stairs. We would have loved to have had outside access at the top floor instead of having to go down a level or two to get out on the decks and docks or have a full view of the water. There are only side windows in the unit. Morgan, the host, provides great communication and is always ready to help. We appreciated that! All in all, this was a great place to stay.

Surprise!
We were very satisfied with our unit and the cleanliness of it. The decks, seating and firepits were exactly as advertised. The surprise was it was one house divided into 3 units. We were not aware that we would be sharing the facilities with strangers. We had planned a quite getaway together.

Bayou Life Hidden Gem
What you see is exactly what you get! Beautifully maintained surroundings and a clean and cozy place. My husband and I are originally from New Orleans and wanted a place close to the city but far enough to relax. Thank you Morgan for prompt attention to whatever question we asked. I've never stayed in a place with ALL of the seasons needed. Loved it!!!

Christmas visit
Stayed on the 3rd floor, which wasn't as good as the 2nd floor. The 3rd floor had no door or windows where you could look out and see the water as the 2nd floor had. The 2nd floor has a front and rear door and windows to see the street and the water. Don't get me wrong, the accommodations were great, just would have liked a water view. Fished with Big Dog Fishing Charter and it was perfect. The rental had all we needed for our 6 day visit, and location for several trips to New Orleans, and the Oak Alley Plantation was easy.

Perfect with kids !
Very relaxing and quiet. We really enjoyed to experience something different than any other hotel or house. The location is a bit far so you need a car and there’s not many options when it comes to restaurants… BUT you get to fish off the dock, eat freshly caught crabs and watch the boats passing by. House was not super clean, we had to wash the dishes (pans and coutellerie specially) before using it. But it’s always like that in any other properties we rented. And it needs more hooks to hang towels and something to hang clothes.

Combination fishing trip and WWII Museum
Two brothers in their 50s looking for a base camp for redfishing and our WWII Museum visit. Barataria and Bayou Life turned out to be a perfect spot. Charters picked us up right at our dock each morning (no early-AM car rides!) and we were able to fish from the dock upon our return. Well appointed house; no problem there. The dock is the hidden gem here; we spent hours out there. Very quiet location on a dead end road. Recommended particularly for fishing but convenient for side trips to NOLA.

Great stay in thr bayou
My husband and I wanted to visit New Orleans but also be able to experience the beauty of the area. This place provided both. We had an easy trip into the city for the day followed by a relaxing evening by the water. My only caution would be that there aren't really any places to eat super close by. There is a small grocery store that had all we needed though. As long as you know in advance, it isn't even an issue. You will not be disappointed!

Fantastic Property!
We had an amazing time at Morgan’s place! We went to fish and did just that! We caught far, bass, catfish, redfish and giant black drum right off the dock! Not to mention all the blue crab!! We feasted every night between the shrimp Morgan left for us, the crab and our trip up to New Orleans! The sunsets were gorgeous - the house was perfect and had everything we needed. Very tastefully and simply decorated… (washer and dryer are behind the door in the living room by the way 😂… took us a minute to find it). We took the soft shell crab tour at the neighbors - Mr Richard gave a thorough explanation of the operation and was super sweet. We hiked though the Wetlands on the boardwalk - very pretty. The second floor deck was the perfect setting to watch the shrimp boats slowly making their way as they caught shrimp at night. The covered dock and lower deck made hanging out in the heat bearable. Overall - fantastic accommodations! Thanks Morgan!

We Love the Bayou!
We had a fantastic time in the bayou! The property was beautiful and so quiet, exactly what we wanted. All the locals we met in Barataria/Lafitte were wonderful people who made us feel so welcome. Morgan was actually staying next door when we checked in...we barely pulled in the driveway and he was inviting us over for a crab boil! He was so helpful connecting us with a local fishing charter (Big Dog), which was fantastic, thank you Captain Chad, and with Mr. Richard to tour his softshell crab farm, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The fishing was excellent right off the dock. We caught tons of catfish, five HUGE black drum, and dozens of crabs in the traps Morgan provided. Some of the restaurants in Lafitte were still out of commission or in temporary locations recovering from Hurricane Ida, which was heartbreaking, but we visited all of the local places at least once during our stay and had AMAZING food everywhere. We especially enjoyed Restaurant des Families and actually went there a second time to try more stuff off their menu. You don't need to brave NOLA to find world-class food. We also did a swampboat tour with Airboat Adventures which was a blast. We are so happy we chose Bayou Life for our anniversary vacation...we were looking for a relaxing, authentic Louisiana experience and that's absolutely what we got. Thank you so much, Morgan, for being such a welcoming host! We will definitely recommend Baoyu Life to our friends and family and hope to be back soon. :)
