"Lovely, mid-century style, renovated abbey in charming old centre area of Angouleme. While the hotel is a short 15-minute walk from the train station, we arrived late at night and were advised to advance book a taxi to ensure we had transportation to the hotel. "Hotel Mercure is located in the hearing of Angouleme and right across the street from the Halles - a unique venue much akin to a farmer market with patisseries, bars, and wonderful food. The staff was wonderful and shout out to our bartender. He was extremely professional and knowledgeable. The rooms are good sized, very clean, and fresh."

"Lovely, quirky hotel right in the middle of the city so very convenient for everything. The receptionists were excellent, so bright and helpful. Particularly helped with the parking as it’s quite tricky when the small car park is busy. "Perfectly located to stay for an early train departure for CDG. 12 minute easy walk to Centre of Angoulême for large variety of restaurants. The area is not very desirable but it is opposite the train station $ that was the objective. Very clean room but unfortunately no fridge or tea/coffee facility in room."

"The property is a very high end beautifully maintained castle. Our room had a beautiful turret and was beautifully lit. All the accommodations were top notch and the service was excellent I would highly recommend and I plan to return. "

"Stunning castle and grounds, nicely appointed with very traditional furnishings. Well maintained. Grégoire, his wife and family were gracious hosts - we felt most welcome during our week-long stay. We stayed in the old block and small tower, away from the main tower. Some may find the accommodation a bit spooky, we did, but after the first night we found it added to the adventure. "Location: 10/10. Perfect part of Angoulême to stay. Staff: super friendly, attentive, helpful and accommodating. (Special mention must got to "Bee" ... just delightful!!) Property: clean, neat, excellent sized room. I'll be staying here again when i return to France!!"
