"This was one of the best hotel stay during a 2 week trip. The hotel is located right next to the JR Takamatsu station with taxis and major bus terminal in front. The ultimate convenience when touring the area. Also, there are seemingly limitless dining options in front of the hotel. The room had a spectacular view of Takamatsu Castle Ruins in front and the Takamatsu Symbol Tower from the side window. "If you paid to stay at this hotel, you have already paid too much. The only redeeming quality of this place is the staff, they were friendly and polite. As for the building, to call this hotel "dated" is an understatement as it is right out of the 1960s. The room was hot and the AC was not working properly. We opened the windows to cool off, but the area around the hotel was not great. It was noisy and smelled like diesel. The room had a lot of dust and the carpets were dirty. I would not...

This was my favorite art installation on Ogijima, an island in the Seto Inland Sea. It was part of the art festival held every three years, Setouchi Triennale in 2013. The gallery Memory Bottle was installed by Mayumi Kuri. Almost 1,000 bottles are on display, all with pictures or small trinkets inside. In her interview she says that she wanted to gather memories of the local people in Ogijima so she set up a collection box, asking people to put their memories in it. The bottles were lit up with lights and had everything from pictures to train tickets. The gallery is still open even though the next Setouchi Triennale is not until 2016. If you want to see the art during the islands off season, now is the time to go :) * 40min ferry ride from Takamatsu Port. It is about a 1.5hr flight from Tokyo to Takamatsu.
