Eudes Ier, comte de Blois fit construire une forteresse à Chaumont pour protéger la ville de Blois des comtes d'Anjou. La forteresse d'origine fut brûlée et rasée par Louis XI en 1455, pour punir Pierre d'Ambroise de s'être révolté contre le pouvoir royal. Jacques Donatien le Ray, fils d’un gros bourgeois de Nantes achète le château en 1750. Il y donnait des fêtes populaires, ce qui préserva le château lors de la Révolution de 1789. Il reçoit Benjamin Franklin, Jean-Jacques Rousseau. Son fils, part pour le Nouveau Monde pour y fonder une colonie dans l'Ohio, du nom de Chaumont. Eudes I, Count of Blois built a fortress at Chaumont to protect the city of Blois Count of Anjou.The original fortress was burned and razed by Louis XI in 1455 to punish Pierre d'Amboise of having rebelled against the royal power. Jacques Donatien Le Ray, son of a rich bourgeois bought the castle of Nantes in 1750.He gave popular festivals, which preserved the castle during the Revolution of 1789.He received Benjamin Franklin, Jean-Jacques Rousseau.His son, left for the New World to establish a colony in Ohio, named Chaumont.
