The room was nice if a little old and creepy with an old 18c cartoon image on the wall. Staff were very polite, the room had a very good shower. But the bed was very uncomfortable and the room was very noisy. Both inside and out. Didnt really sleep for 3 days (2 nights) as you could hear everything. The room temperatures were either very hot or coldp, for both of us anything in between was impossible to guage with the central heating and were asked to keep the window open in the welcoming document which is frankly rediculous. We averaged a couple of hours sleep and when i wope up on the second night at 3AM if we would have a backup would have checked out there and then. Alright place but has issues and would not return.

Enjoyed our stay here. Our room was a good size and had everything we needed, great location and friendly staff. Could have done with a bit of paint in some areas and stains on base of bed and net curtains but didnt effect our stay. Would come back :)

We left after the first night and we were refunded for the second night. - WiFi didn’t work - TV apps didn’t work - Mold on the curtains - strong smell of sewage and damp - Unfinished decorating - Chipped walls and furniture - missing items from the advertisement photo - Unhelpful night staff - seemed unbothered. Morning staff was helpful and understanding. - Photos and 4 star rating gave us higher expectations - should have stuck to premier inn - Told to keep windows open in the day, but on the ground floor anyone could get in (probably to cover smell of sewage up) - My partners 30th birthday came to a short end.

This is a room only hotel but there are many options just a few yards from it for breakfast. Fantastic location. It is an old building that has been renovated to modern standards. I really liked the large shower.

Google listing says it’s five star. The sign outside reception says it’s four star. It doesn’t measure up. We found the staff to be really helpful. The location is also excellent. The building oozes charm and character making you feel sympathetic to any shortfall. However, there is no bar. There is no food service. There were no glasses in the room or bathroom. There was no bottled water. We arrived to find no toiletries in the bathroom. So we tried to call reception on the bedside phone for them to resolve. The phone didn’t work. Once we returned to reception and told of the toiletries issue it was quickly resolved. The room is in need of a deep clean, the phone was dusty, the sills and windows dusty, the bathroom had flaking paintwork. The room felt neglected and points raised earlier questions any star rating with basics and little touches you expect in a quality hotel sadly lacking. You could order drinks to your room but we felt the room didn’t deserve more time than necessary. Disappointed is my summary.

Split in shower tray which must leak below and toilet looks like it may fall off the wall. Can hear person in adjacent room doing a zip up and people moving beer kegs and wheelie bins at 5am. Disappointing stay, however the location to central York is good.

Awesome location! You feel like you have your own secret passage to home in the middle of everything! All the major sights of York are easily walkable. Weirdly, Expedia didn’t give us a street number which made it hard for us and our taxi driver to find. The room was very spacious, with everything we needed. The shower was awesome. We were greeted warmly and appreciated being able to leave our bags for a while after we checked out.

It’s my second stay at this hotel for an overnight at York. It’s such a small, cozy hotel. Even when having to carry my luggage up the stairs, still worth it.

We stayed here in 2022 and loved the room we stayed in. We were really keen to try our their biggest room with a rolltop bath, and so booked a year in advance. It was well worth the wait! Gorgeous room, amazing facilities in the room, and wonderfully warm staff! The only thing that could be added is some sort of little shelf in the shower for toiletries. I had no issues leaving my toiletries on the ground, but i appreciate others may not be able to do this during their shower. Pretty flawless yet again, better even! We can't wait to come back and stay here again whenever that is!

Our stay was great! The hotel was close to the train station, shopping, sites, and several great food options. The staff was friendly. The only issue for us was the noisy bathroom fan that turned on every time the bathroom light was on. It had a horrible sound. That said we would stay again.
