"We picked this hotel to stay at while visiting Matsumoto because it was budget friendly and we were headed farther south to our next stop and I think it was a good pick except that the closest train was nearly a mile walk. Otherwise, the public bath, free buffet breakfast, eco-consciousness, and friendly staff made this stay great! As westerners we are used to a bit more space so the bathroom felt a little constricting but there was actually some closet space which we didn't have in some of our other smaller Japan lodging spots! "

"This is a big hotel in Okuhida onsengo area, having amasing baths (onsen). We came for both the springs and the winter illumination experience and we had both. Loved it. The outdoor baths (shared) are great. We also tried hida meet as well as local hotel specialities, like turtle soup and caviar, highly recommended. I would love to come back one day."

"It’s all about dogs there. Love how the Japanese love their furkids. Hygiene measures, dog runs, dog onsen with humans, dogs can access everywhere in this hotel, even the restaurants."

"This hotel surpassed expectations from a service and amenities standpoint. It was easy to find and there were plenty of dining options nearby. We had a family of 6 split into 2 rooms and they were kind enough to provide 2 rooms that were beside each other for us. "

"This hotel has its own onsen and we loved it. We all were given traditional Japanese robes to wear throughout the hotel (in the dining room as well) and that was really nice. The staff were amazing and patient. "

"We loved our stay at Ryokan Sansui. The view of the mountains around the hotel were amazing with tri-colored foliage. The staff were also very lovely and kind. The food was also delicious and more than I had expected. Communication wasn't too easy, but the message would get across. The best part was, of course, the onsen (hot spring) experience. They offer both public (gender-separated) hot springs and baths, as well as 4 private ones that don't need prior booking or extra fees. Getting there and back took a lot of time though, so our 1-day trip seemed a bit too short."
