"The hotel is dated which needs refurbishment. But the amenities offered were good. The Japanese style room we stayed was spacious which can fit in 7 futons. We had half board during our stay. The food served were amazing and looked beautiful which was beyond our imagination. Though the property itself offers only smoking rooms, we as non-smokers didn't find it a problem at all. And parking is free. We would definitely recommend it."

"The hotel is big and could cater to big crowds without having the guests feeling overcrowding. The 3 onsens are spread over 3 different blocks of building but very walkable within indoor (hence no concern about rain or cold weather). Buffet breakfast was excellent with good spread of western and Japanese cuisine. Parking onsite is complimentary and the hotel is walkable to small town with eateries, shops and cafes. "The stores were all closed when we arrived on a Tuesday but the hotel was lovely and the staff were wonderful. The good was very good and the outdoor bath was heavenly. "

"The staff speak English or Mandarin hence communication was a breeze for me. They were very friendly, helpful and polite. The location of the ryokan is within walking distance to the town and close to the train station. Hotel provides a bus shuttle to the train station. From the train station to the hotel, there is also a complimentary ride. I had a very pleasant stay at the ryokan and highly recommend it. "

"If you see this review. Just book it if is within your budget. They take care of everything once you stepped into Gero station. Jus hopped into any Taxi waiting at the station and your retreat begins. We stepped into the inn and didnt think of going any where until our check out time. "

"I came to Gero on a recommendation from a close friend. I somehow missed it when I had done a previous Takayama trip and I am glad I came back. The town is very small and the hotel is easily walkable from the station, some people say 15 mins but it was more like 8-10 mins and that was while stopping to take pictures of the Hida river. Great location for the hotel, close to everything. The Onsen in this hotel alternate between male and female daily so you will have a chance to experience both...

"Plus: (1) The onsen quality is really good. (2) The service is excellent. (3) The meals are excellent. (4) Rooms are spacious. Shortcoming: The room we got is either a smoking room or used to be smoking room, so there's the smell that gets on your clothes."

"NO TATTOOS. Is the first sign you see when checking in. Perhaps if you have a small discrete tattoo, they will still permit you to use their hot-baths on site. Ideal for couples, seniors, less so for families with children. The beds were quite hard. The in-room food service was very good, as was the breakfast buffet. Both indoor and outdoor onsen was very nice, with the outdoor one having a nice view of Gifu Castle. "

"A cozy homey ryokan just 3-minute walk from the Gero train station, the location is excellent. The meals were delicious and the service was impeccable. The room, however, was a little dated. The insulation wasn’t good so it could be a little chilly at night when it was snowing outside. The outdoor onsen was enjoyable. I will definitely come back next time I visit Gero. "

"Lovely views from the public baths (separate for men and women) to the lake. The decor was dated but the room was comfortable and the food was good. A beautifully presented Japanese dinner and a choice of Japanese vs. western style breakfasts. "

"Nagataki is a compound of several "hundreds of years old" typical houses connected through walkable paths and integrated with nature. "The walls are paper-thin, you can hear neighbor's TV. There is a smell of mold in the room. The shared bath was not clean. The futons are very thin as well. The communal toilet slippers were disgustingly dirty, and no other slippers inside the hotel were provided (you walk on very old carpets and floors in the hotel hallways barefooted). "This was a very memorable place that I visited. It is in the rural area of japan, you can really feel the realness of the area. It's in gifu however it's definitely not a tourist trap area. The owners of the establishment reminded me of my grandmother. You are not getting a hotle with this stay more of a B&B, it definitely felt like I a was sleeping over a japanese grandma's house. "Wonderful experience! A stately & historical large ryokan nested on the eastern hill slope of Gero town. My second stay at this ryokan & will continue to stay there next time I am in Gero. Very good vista of the town in the morning or evening. Very large garden & landscape, with tall tress & seasonal flower trees.or bushes.. a beautiful & varied feast for the eyes & senses if one come at different seasons... Has its own hotel museum to showcase it's checkered history & early artifacts, etc....
