Disliked: Cleanliness
So disappointing
Chosen room was confirmed twice. Upon arrival I realised there were no entry instructions in the email. I contacted the name listed, who sent an email with instructions. I was able to enter and retrieve the room key, which did not open the door. I emailed the again. She did not reply. After searching I called the number listed. I got a cheery woman who said she would escalate my request. I said please do because I am sitting here waiting to get in. After at least 45 mins I was able to talk to the manager. He informed me that there was an issue with my room and that I had been moved. The new room was in the back and overlooked the pub behind, when I had specifically chosen a room overlooking the ancient Abbey. I was told that if I stayed there they would ‘take care of me’ the next morning. When I investigated the new room more closely the floor was sticky, and there were human hairs on the bedsheet. The pillows were yellow and stained, with the thinnest of covers. I slept with a towel over them. In the morning I discovered that the shower was weak and sprayed all over the toilet; the light over the toilet constantly flickered and when I shuffled into the bedroom on a towel it was covered in grime from the floor. I then received an email telling me that the hotel was full, that I would have to stay put but they offered me an extra night for free. Which was a bit like offering a free berth on the Titanic. Steve was nice but just not good enough.
