Nestled in Orford, Castle Cottage offers a tranquil escape in a great location near the impressive castle, quay for river cruises, Pump Street bakery, and wonderful independent shops. The cottage retains traditional charm with a kitchen/dining room, cosy living room, a chic shower room, a large double bedroom, single/twin and a sunny courtyard area
GROUND FLOOR
You're welcomed directly into the living room with a couple of sofas in front of the fire, a coffee table and some games and books on the shelves.
The kitchen/dining room sits at the back of the house and has a wonderful wood burner to keep you cosy in the winter months. The table and chairs sit in the centre of the room with a dresser to the side and kitchen units running along one wall with a Bosch oven and ceramic hob, slimline dishwasher, microwave, kettle and toaster.
A rear hall gives access to the lovely modern shower room with a large shower cubicle, wash basin in a vanity unit, WC and natural light. Towels are provided.
FIRST FLOOR
There's a door in the kitchen opening onto steep carpeted stairs with handrail, which leads to the first floor where both bedrooms are carpeted too.
The main bedroom with a king-size bed sits at the front of the house, with hangers and a chest of drawers for your clothing.
At the back is a second bedroom with an attractive day bed which can be made up as a single or twin if you prefer - be sure to ask at booking stage if you need the second bed to be made up. There's also storage here in a chest of drawers.
OUTSIDE
Accessed through the kitchen with an additional path from the road, the little courtyard is basic in style but a real suntrap! There's a table and four chairs if you'd like to dine al fresco and a shed with a freezer and washing machine in it for your use. There's also space in the shed for you to store bikes under cover; you can wheel them through the gate and onto the road without going through the house and there are fantastic cycle routes and roads in the region up to Snape or through Tunstall forest.
There's no allocated parking but unrestricted parking near the cottage.
Orford has changed little over the years and is a beautiful spot offering a perfect base for walkers, cyclists, artists or those who wish to wander down to the river to watch the fishing boats go by! It lies within the Suffolk Coasts and Heaths Area of Outstanding Beauty.
The village has an enchanting history, largely having grown since Henry II commissioned the popular Castle to be built in the 12th century. Once upon a time, Orford was a bustling commercial and fishing port, however as Orford Ness spit continued to grow it became harder for the boats to enter the estuary mouth, just 5 miles from Orford. The quay, whilst still used for smaller fishing craft and river tour boats, was built by the Normans, as was the stunning church in the village centre.
There's also plenty to offer with regards to eating and drinking. It boasts two fabulous pubs, The Jolly Sailor and The Kings Head, as well as some superb restaurants, especially Pinney’s fish restaurant. One of our favourite places to go is the Pump Street Bakery, which is world-famous and offers especially delicious food and drink! There are Tennis Courts and a Recreation Sports Ground with its own Clubhouse and children’s play area. Football is played on the Recreation Ground, which is also the site of the Annual Flower Show in August. Other sports and societies thrive including Bowls, Sailing and Badminton.
The village is 20 miles from Ipswich, 12 miles from both Woodbridge and Aldeburgh and 5 miles from the famous Snape Maltings complex, popular for its magnificent Concert Hall and nearby Galleries and Shops. Orford and its immediate surrounding area are renowned for culture and good eating.
