While we had some difficulties locating the key on arrival as it wasn’t in the place indicated in the information we had, our first impressions of this house were very positive. The original Victorian house has been modernized and greatly extended at the back. This means that the kitchen and dining area is huge, with floor to ceiling windows looking out on to a substantial lawn at the back, where there are also a large trampoline (which children in our house really enjoyed) and a herb garden.
But this is a house in which the owner normally lives. This means that storage space for food is almost entirely occupied by their things - we had to leave our provisions on top of the sideboard. And whilst the house has been modernized fairly recently, there are signs of wear and tear, though the owner is reluctant to concede this. A couple of items broke during stay A small china plate that broke whilst being washed in the dishwasher and a small tumbler that was broken purportedly would cost £80 to replace. The outside rubbish bins were full when we arrived and were not emptied until the day before we left. The wifi is a bit slow.
Above all, make sure that you take good, detailed and comprehensive photos of the condition of each room when you arrive and on departure. We didn’t, unfortunately. Surprisingly, there were no reviews of this property, though it has apparently been available since 2017.
