This is the rocking chair porch in the woods you've dreamed about – guaranteed stress-free. When you step inside you'll find lots of windows that invite Nature inside with you.

Fans of water adventure will love the scenic hiking trails to and along the historic New River – just a short walk from your vacation cabin. A beautiful common area at the river's edge provides an ideal spot for fishing, picnicking or relaxing. The New River offers some of the best small mouth bass fishing you can find. With a little muscle and ingenuity you can also use this area for swimming, tubing or launching a kayak. Nearby river outfitters have all the equipment you need, as well as easier walk-in access to the water.

Mossy Top has a cozy, open floor plan that's a great fit for a couple or small family. You'll be charmed by the woodsy cabin décor and the beamed ceilings. The main level offers a combination living-dining area with a warm and welcoming wood stove, a flatscreen TV and a kitchenette that includes a stove, microwave, coffee maker and small fridge. The master bedroom is conveniently located on this floor as well, with a queen-sized bed and full bath. Head up the ladder style stairs to the spacious loft where you'll find another queen-sized bed and two twins, perfect for the kids.

Located in Glendale Springs, Mossy Top provides quick and easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's also only 15 minutes to West Jefferson. With an affordable price tag, a charming mountain-top setting and a wide assortment of nearby outdoor recreation possibilities, this cabin is an ideal choice for your next visit to the High Country of Western North Carolina.

Explore The High Country

From your Mossy Top home base you can easily explore a huge variety of mountain attractions and outdoor recreation.

The nearby Glendale Springs Inn offers a wonderful dinner menu, for those special nights out. You'll also find great restaurants in the town of West Jefferson, only 15-minutes away. This is small-town Americana at its finest, with a wonderful combination of quaintness, culture, dining, and shopping options. Here you'll find antique stores, art galleries, wine tasting and the famous Ashe Co. Cheese Factory. The old-fashioned country store also offers delicacies like homemade fudge, ice cream, salsas and local jams. Stroll the town and feel as if you've stepped back in time.

Drive a little further to Boone or Blowing Rock, for an even wider assortment of dining, entertainment and shopping options. And remember that here in Blue Ridge Country, the journey is as satisfying as the destination, with gorgeous scenery at every turn.

In the winter enjoy skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing or ice skating at one of the many area resorts. Warmer months are also a perfect time for bicycling, hiking, the river, and fun family sightseeing adventures. Mine for gems, attend a craft, book or antiques festival, or ride the Tweetsie Railroad!

After a long day of fun and adventure, Mossy Top will welcome you home to enjoy the rest and relaxation this mountain retreat was designed for.

Awesome stay for a couple or small family if you're looking for a quiet retreat. The beds were not comfortable - the mattress in the master bedroom needs to be replaced. If you can overlook that issue, it's a great spot for a weekend getaway. We spent most of the time on the screened porch and deck, anyways. Close to West Jefferson and lots of hikes.

Cozy
If you understand what you are getting, you'll have a nice stay. It's a small cabin, look at the pictures, the kitchen is small (note there is a larger, though not full-size, fridge than what's in the pictures). The bedroom is downstairs, the other 3 beds are in a loft, with a ladder, not stairs for access. The ladder made me really nervous because it has off-set steps, i.e., a step for left foot, then 8 inches higher, a step for right foot. It ultimately made it easier to climb, but it requires you to start with a specific foot or you miss a step. We used the hot tub in 45 degrees with rain, used it with 32 degrees and clear. The kids loved it. It did need some cleaning, but the company came out in a few hours of me emailing them to clean it. The biggest disappointment was the river. It was very difficult to access the river. The property is hemmed in by other properties and once you get down to the river, many properties are signed as no-trespassing. We never really figured out how to get to the river without going through what seemed to be someone else's property. But once you get to it, it's steep river bank in most areas and no trails, You can stand there and look at it and in the summer, I guess get in, but not when it's 35! A recent reviews suggested the place was haunted. My conclusion is that they are not familiar with baseboard heating. It's electric baseboard heating, warms up fast, makes lost of popping and creaking sounds.

We are So Sad the Cabin Wasn't Good
As a Christmas gift, my wife wanted us to visit a cabin in location that was likely to have snow. She did get a little snow, so that was a win. I want to provide as accurate and fair of a review because there are elements of this cabin experience that I wish had known ahead of time. At least, more information would have saved me an absolutely owed "Do Over" Christmas Trip. I will start with the negative aspects, but I will provide the positives below. Negative Aspects: If you are arriving after dark, because in the winter it's dark almost directly after check-in time (4PM), you may be unable to locate the cabin without this following, unprovided information (And you'll have to drive 25 minutes to find signal to contact the office where you'll likely leave a message and wait for a return call- Which we QUICKL tro be fair): * This cabin shares a parking space with the visible cabin. You park and assume that you are in the cabin located to the right of you because you CAN'T see that there is a walkway to this cabin on the left. AND you can't see the cabin from the road, in the very dark night. The walking pathway to MossyTop is not lit. * The upstairs is only actually accessible if you want to climb the terribly unsafe ladder to go up. You will likely not get luggage up the ladder easily. * The Beds are HORRIBLY uncomfortable. Nothing will halt a romantic weekend like the inability to be comfortable in a bed. The main downstairs bed is on wheels, and I am assuming it's a very cheap foam mattress. The queen bed in the loft is uncomfortable. I considered sleeping on one of the twin beds upstairs because those mattresses at least sucked less. However, it's a pain to take any thing to the loft. So the loft is pretty useless. * Downstairs TV has cable only. No smart TV here. * The couch downstairs is not the couch in the picture. It's like a busted IKEA dorm room couch-like thing. * TV only in the living room area * No TV upstairs & No bedroom TV. * Night 1- The house was quite but NIGHT 2, there were scratching sounds on the walls, shaking silverware and sounds of the doors slamming. It was TERRIFYING. It sounded like a party was happening in the cabin, just not in the downstairs bedroom. These sounds would start and last 30-55 minutes and then calm down for 15 minutes and start again. My wife and I are doctorate level providers. We are NOT saying this place is haunted. But we don't have an answer. Hotub is nice &- Full Size Refrigerator

Cabin was quaint and quiet and close to the river for fishing. I wished though the neighbors weren’t so close… a little more secluded would have been nice. Overall the experience was quite nice.

Third visit to Mossy Top
Our third visit to Mossy Top was wonderful again! Although the kitchen (plates and silverware) could have been cleaner, everything else was very nice and just as described. Peaceful, secluded, very quiet, only a couple of neighbors. The hot tub was clean and worked great. The new fridge is nice, the new couch is nice. We plan to return!

Affordable yes but not exactly private…
The walkway from the parking spot to front door is extremely dark and the trees need to be trimmed back. There are a few solar lights for the walkway but they don’t work. There’s no “direct river access” as mentioned in description. You have to walk down the road, down a path, and what looks like through someone else’s property. The screened in porch and deck is very nice. There’s lights strung along the back porch that adds such a great touch. We really enjoyed the hot tub. Everything worked great. The master bedroom is exactly as pictured. There’s no where to put your clothes so you’ll need to keep your things in your suitcase. If that’s important to you please keep that in mind. I think there should be more than one roll of toilet paper and one trash bag provided. There’s a different couch than the one in the pictures and there’s a full size refrigerator now. There was a lot of dust for the cleaning fee charge. There was food in one of the pans hanging in the rack. The bathroom is small but the shower is extremely small. If you’re a bigger person this isn’t the cabin for you. If there’s more than two people I’d probably chose another cabin but otherwise it was okay.

Simple Mountain Cabin With Little Privacy
This cabin had all the basics as described but nothing more. The shower is very small. The queen bed downstairs is worn out and uncomfortable. The pots and pans hang from the ceiling in the kitchen- which my tall husband hit his head on a few times.. this isn't an ideal cabin if you're tall. In the listing, I was under the impression that river access was easily accessible through a trail. However, the "trail" led you down a dead end road where another occupied cabin was. Once I got over the weirdness of invading the space of other vacationers, passing within feet of their cars and the cabin, the "trail" led to a clearing that had several "No Tresspassing" signs. To the left of this area was what I assumed was the river access based upon a map that was left in our cabin. This area had a picnic table that was littered with old fishing supplies. I felt like I was trespassing so I trekked back up the mountain to our cabin but not without first crossing paths with the other vacationers who seemed surprised to see me. This cabin was nestled within throwing distance of three other cabins. As we were loading in our items upon arrival, an unknown dog ran into our cabin. Thankfully he was friendly and had a ID tag so we were able to find the owner (resident who lived across the road). This person was a chatty Cathy who ended up setting her car alarm off at 3:30am that morning waking me up, putting me in a panic that there was either a bear or murderer creeping about. We couldn't take full advantage of the peaceful nature surroundings due to the activities of other vacationers directly below us, within perfect view of our porch. Overall, the cabin was clean, the heat worked well, and the hot tub was in working order. However, if you're trying to find a private mountain get away, or are hoping to spend time by the river, I'd highly suggest booking a different cabin not in this area.

Quaint Getaway
This property was just as described. It is tucked perfectly in the trees and laurels to be hidden away. This was just the right size for my husband and myself. If you are planning on staying with a family this would not be the place. At arrival we found the cabin to be very clean and the hot tub was also pristine. Now the only bad part: The bed on the lower level really did leave a lot to be desired though. It was terribly uncomfortable.

This cabin nestled in the woods is the perfect spot to get away to rejuvenate from city life. I enjoyed not having cell reception while there. I was impressed with the cleanliness of the place. Perfect for a couples getaway or by yourself. The cabin was exactly what I was expecting. Just a warning the shower is small but that's ok. And the stairs to the loft are a tad treacherous but cute once upstairs. If you have a weak bladder sleep downstairs. Grill was wonderful bhaving a washer and dryer was nice. Went home with clean clothes. There was absolutely nothing to complain about. Exactly as advertised. Will be back!!!? Thanks for an awesome weekend!!

Cramped, poorly furnished, dusty
Apparently, the owners have never actually stayed here. The listing says "sleeps six," but the two of us felt crowded. Sorely lacks furniture. No place to put your stuff - such as drawers or shelves. Had to live out of our suitcases. No counter space to prepare meals in the kitchenette. (the microwave in the picture, now sits on the only counter space because the small refrigerator was replaced.) The living area has one old DUSTY sofa. No other place to sit unless you pull in the hard-backed dining chairs. The shower is so tiny, that my 5'3", 125 lb. body was cramped. My taller friend had it worse. The "stairs" to the loft area were a ridiculous step-ladder which was arduous to climb with anything in your hands. Loft was hot in the afternoon - ceiling fan didn't work, window on east side had no screen (or blinds), no way to get a cross-breeze. Finally, the hot tub had far more chemicals than is safe. The fumes, even without turning on the jets, were overpowering. We definitely will not rent this cabin again, and do not recommend it to anyone.
