Bright and Cheerful Coastal Cottage with Water Access

This charming, light-filled and pet-friendly cottage is steps away from the neighborhood river beach with a designated swimming area and a gorgeous sunset view. The house has a lovely, south facing sunroom, with windows on three sides that is perfect for sipping morning coffee and evening cocktails. Open the windows to enjoy a fresh breeze off the water at end of the street. Two decks overlook a grassy yard and bird lovers will delight in the local songbirds that nest in the shrubs and trees. Just off the back deck is a ‘mini-beach’ with firepit!

A fully-equipped and renovated kitchen with gas range, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, and oven is made for cooking and eating. For grill-lovers there is a gas grill next to the deck at the back of the garage, with a prep/serving table, and screened gazebo for enjoying the yard mosquito-free. Or, take a five minute drive to one of the local restaurants in Niantic for fresh seafood, Indian cuisine, sushi, pizza, bakery, local/organic food, pub fare, and a brewery.

There are two cottage-sized bedrooms upstairs (Double and King) and a small flexible room with TV and twin trundle bed. Both the upstairs and downstairs bathrooms have showers (tub upstairs) and there is a washer and dryer on the main floor.

If you feel like staying inside, relax on the chaise with a good book or sprawl on the comfy couch and stream your guilty pleasure on the flat screen TV. If you are looking for outdoor adventure - swim, paddle, hike, or bike at one of the many nearby beaches, boat launches, and parks.

Included in your stay: Wi-Fi, linens, towels, soap, shampoo/conditioner, hair dryer (upstairs cupboard) bug repellent, sunscreen, beach towels, beach bags, camp/beach chairs, household items, first-aid kit, fire extinguisher, and back up supplies (toothpaste/toothbrush, razors, shaving cream, deodorant, umbrella, etc.)

Wonderful, relaxing stay!
We loved our stay at Cottage on Wood. Cate was a wonderful, communicative host. The house was perfect for our group of six - we took advantage of games and activities in the house, enjoyed relaxing in the front room which got lots of sunshine, and spent time in the spacious backyard. Rooms were cool and beds super comfortable. Everything was clean and accessible. The location was excellent and we loved the 2 minute drive to the boardwalk where we enjoyed lots of restaurants and local attractions; a 20 minute drive to Mystic and the casino which we also took advantage of. A fabulous week and would stay again!

Beach town getaway
This is a really cute house in a great area. It is a two minute walk down the street to see the Niantic River. You can sit there for hours just watching the boats go by. Very quiet with beautiful sunsets. Also a five minute drive to the cute town of Niantic full of restaurants and shops. The house itself has a fully stocked kitchen, very clean, multiple indoor seating/ relaxing areas and a backyard with comfy chairs for a nap. Great communication with the owner.

The cottage was fantastic, great location and plenty of room for our family. The back outside patio was delightful to enjoy coffee in the morning and drinks in the afternoon ! A short walk down the road brings you to the water. Nice for a swim or to splash around. Watching the boats was great.

Summer get away
This home is exactly as described-nice quiet neighborhood,near center of town and a small private beach area to use. Catherine was very easy to contact if the need arose and very personable. I have stayed in many rentals and this was the best stocked house I have ever been in! Nice back deck and very large back yard with access to bikes and watercraft. The only con is if you have mobility issues the stairs to the bedrooms are a bit narrow Would definitely recommend Thanks Cate for a nice relaxing week.

What a beautiful week! Cate’s cottage had everything we needed! The cottage was very clean, bright and cheery Enjoyed 5 beautiful beach days. Post wedding vacation
Wonderful location for a post wedding vacation with extended family. The cottage was clean, welcoming and in a fabulous location close to great restaurants, shops and the Niantic Boardwalk. The host was easy to communicate with and very kind. It provided all of us with a nice location to relax, both inside and outside, after a very busy weekend. We all would highly recommend this location and would rent here again in the future.

Quaint home and wonderful location
This lovely house was comfortable and clean. The location was perfect for scenic, relaxing strolls, and drives to Niantic and other towns. The garden and common areas were peaceful and cozy. I’m sorry we didn’t have more time to hang out there. All went well and the owner was helpful. I would definitely come back here.

Outstanding stay!
As a former long term resident of CT, I always enjoy returning and visiting family and friends during the summer months. This was my first time staying at Catherine’s lovely home. It truly exceeded my expectations. She has thought of and provided everything you could possibly need from well stocked kitchen supplies (dishes, cookware, picnic items, spices, oil and vinegar, coffee, etc.) to all the necessary bathroom items (shampoo, conditioner, soaps, lotions, sunscreen and more). There are plenty of beautiful linens & towels, including towels, bags and chairs for the nearby beaches. There are even kayaks, a canoe and bicycle available to use (although we did not during our stay). The house is just steps away from the Niantic River (we viewed gorgeous sunsets from the benches above the River) and a short walk to a nearby riverside restaurant and downtown Niantic. Catherine was quickly responsive to our questions and provided good recommendations for area restaurants and activities. We are definitely looking forward to returning and staying again next year!

We had a wonderful week at the cottage. Our grandchildren, ages 10 and 15 loved using the kayak and swimming. Neighborhood is very quiet and friendly. The cottage was very clean and Cate was very helpful and thought of everything that we might need. Loved the deck and sunroom!

We really enjoyed our quick little trip to Niantic... a few hours at the Book Barn, a day at the beach, some ice cream in Mystic, an evening canoe excursion and s'mores around the fireplace (all possible due to this great cottage). The homeowner thought of just about everything you could hope to find in a house that you're borrowing for a couple days (spices, plastic wrap, foil, paper towels, canoe, fireplace, and even bug spray so that you can enjoy using them). Hope this house will be available the next time we're escaping to Niantic.

Great family vacation spot!
Location is a 10+, responsive and flexible host, home with all we needed and more, and a wonderful family river beach just steps away. Cate has kayaks and everything you need, neighbors are friendly, the beach has a swimming dock, and the vibe is laid back and friendly. This was the perfect low key get away for my young kids and I! Some days we never left the neighborhood, but minutes away from all that Niantic has to offer.
