Our experience at the Holiday Inn Express in D.C.
Our room was lovely & clean. The only problem was my husband would have preferred another hotel because of the constant police presence on the 2nd floor. There were constant fights & vandalism on that floor, children and adults constantly getting on the elevators after different altercations arguing and a couple of times the ambulance had to be called after fights broke out. Fire alarms going off late at night & the fire department showing up after we had come back to our room. We weren't aware that the hotel was also used as a transitional shelter for citizens without homes. P.S. The complimentary shuttle to Union Station came once to the hotel and when it did, the driver just drove past us even when my husband knocked on the shuttle door.

Clean, comfortable, spacious
Stayed at this hotel for one night. Everyone was pleasant and accommodating. Rooms are clean, spacious and comfortable. Good breakfast. Also the pool and jacuzzi were nice too.

Quiet Hotel ...Good DC location
Overall...pretty good. Have an issue with hotels.com to explain my bill. Pluses...close to major attraction...low fare taxi...nice size rooms...quiet...friendly staff. ..GREAT pool area...MINUS...pay.parking....no good restaurants in area...under bed room wasn't clean...

Absent management
The woman we checked in with wasn't very friendly. We also requested an upper level room away from the elevator. What did we get? A room on the lowest level right next to the elevator. We booked well in advance when many rooms were still available, so they clearly ignored our requests. On top of that, the room had a noisy pipe that we couldn't stand after five minutes. When we asked to speak with the manager, the "manager" told us maintenance was working on the pipe issue, but that she couldn't move us because the hotel was already fully booked. Then I asked for a refund because the hotel has a satisfaction guarantee, but she told us we didn't qualify for the refund because our room was booked through a third-party. Additionally, the woman admitted she lied and was NOT a manager, and therfore was not authorized to do a refund anyway. She told us managers did not work on weekends (even though it was a Friday) and that we would have to wait until Monday to argue for a refund. About an hour later, the pretend manager finally told us that she cancelled someone else's reservation so we could take their room. This room was right next to the noisy elevator , but at least it was on the top floor and didn't have any weird pipe sounds. For the time and stress I spent dealing with issues, I regret not booking at the hotel next door.

Location, location, location!
I am going to be honest. The area surrounding this hotel isn't the most appealing but, it's not as bad as it seems. Still, it's safe to say it'll intimidate you initially. We traveled from out of town and stayed here for a show at Echostage. The venue was within walking distance, 5 minutes tops. The vibe outside was a bit shifty. Definitely during late night hours. Nonetheless, when we arrived our room was fairly neat. The fridge and microwave were a help, as well as the Keurig. It's located right next to a couple of fast food restaurants so that was also convenient. The free breakfast was pretty bad though. I'm not sure if it was because I showed up 20 minutes before closing but the bagels were rock hard and the eggs looked overly runny. Staff were friendly. In short, I'd stay here again for the convenience and price.

Customer Service was a bonus...everyone was very friendly and helpful. Room service brought extra lines within minutes. Breakfast staff was courteous and asked if there were other things I would like/need for my meal.

Clean room but rude front desk guy.
The room was clean and nice. I liked that they had different types of pillows (firm and soft types. It came with a suggestion of which one you should use based on your sleep habit.) But the location is little bit inconvenient and their shuttle service was not useful at all. I asked for a pick up at the union station but didn't really give me a clear direction and I ended up uber-ing everywhere, which was expensive. The front desk guy was very rude that he didn't explain anything when I checked in. He just gave me a key to the room. I had to find my way to my room and figure out password for the internet.
