šŸ—ļø Check-In, Access & Where to Park Your Ship

Check-in is smooth sailing with digital self check-inā€”youā€™ll receive your unique access code after completing the required guest verification.
No verification, no entry (even the sea has rules šŸ“ā€ā˜ ļø), so please complete that step ahead of your arrival to avoid any delays.

šŸ” Youā€™ll be staying in Surf Pines, a private, gated community with code-only entry and 24/7 security monitoring. Peaceful, safe, and perfect for your coastal escape.

šŸš— Youā€™ll have parking for up to 4 vehicles in the driveway.
Please remember:

No parking on the street, lawn, or in the garage

RVā€™s, boats, and commercial vehicles are not allowed for vacation rental guests (blame the HOA, not the mermaids)

šŸŒŠ Youā€™ll also have access to:

6 stunning beach trails

Private lake access for paddling, floating, or peaceful morning reflections

A spacious half-acre of property to roam, relax, and maybe spot a few elk or eagles

Adventure starts once youā€™re through the gateā€”just donā€™t forget to verify first! āš“ļøšŸ¦ŒšŸŒ²

šŸŒ² Welcome to Surf Pines ā€“ a hidden gem on Oregonā€™s North Coast where elk roam freely, the breeze smells like saltwater and adventure, and the neighbors might just have feathers or antlers.

This gated coastal community is tucked between Warrenton and Gearhart, just minutes from Astoria and Seaside. With the Pacific Ocean to the west and Sunset Lake to the east, Surf Pines is perfectly sandwiched between beach days and lake play.

There are two gated entries to keep things peaceful and private:
šŸ” One off Highway 101 north of Gearhart (Surfpines Lane)
šŸ” One off Highway 101 south of Warrenton (near Sunset Lane)

Inside the gates? Itā€™s all quiet roads, towering trees, and wild beauty. Elk, deer, pheasants, eagles, and seagulls call it homeā€”and for a while, so will you. šŸ¦ŒšŸ¦…šŸŒŠ

šŸš Swallow the Anchor Beach & Lake House Rules
(aka: ā€œLetā€™s keep it cozy, classy, and compliantā€)

Weā€™re so happy youā€™re considering a stay at Swallow the Anchor! Our beach + lake home is a guest favorite, and weā€™re proud to share it. Butā€¦ (and thereā€™s always a ā€œbut,ā€ right?) in order to keep our little slice of coastal heaven available for future guests, we kindly ask that you follow a few important rules. They're a mix of house rules, community standards, and county regulationsā€”aka, the Big Threeā€”and theyā€™re all here to protect our permit and keep Surf Pines a welcoming place for everyone.

šŸ’” Before You Arriveā€¦
We require guests to complete a quick 3-minute guest screening through our secure partner, Autohost. This helps verify your identity and prevent fraudā€”no awkward security deposits required. Think of it like TSA PreCheck, but for beach houses. It helps us get better insurance coverage and ensures we're not unknowingly renting to that one guy banned from every cabin in Oregon.

You'll need:

A valid government-issued ID

The credit card used to make the booking
This is also required by our HOA (Surf Pines Association), not just us. Youā€™ll be in good companyā€”our neighbors appreciate it!

šŸŒŠ House + County + HOA Rules
Letā€™s break it down, nicely but clearly:

Minimum age to book: 25. (If youā€™ve recently graduated, congrats! But weā€™re not the spot for your post-finals celebration.)

Maximum occupancy: 8 people, including all children and visitors. Please donā€™t try to ā€œdivide and conquerā€ across nearby homes. If you're bringing more, just ask us firstā€”no sneaky sleepovers, please!

Smileā€”youā€™re on camera! Exterior surveillance only, 24/7. It keeps everyone honest, safe, and compliant.

No parties, period. Please donā€™t book this home for others or host an event without our approval.

No smoking anywhere on or near the property. That salty sea air smells better anyway.

No drugs of any kind, even if legal. Weā€™re keeping things G-rated.

No pets or therapy animalsā€”our kiddos have allergies, and local wildlife gets territorial.

Max 4 vehicles in the driveway. No street parking, RVs, boats, or business vehicles. Surf Pines is strict about this.

Quiet hours: 10 p.m. ā€“ 8 a.m. Think campfire vibes, not concert energy.

Shoes off, please! Help us preserve the carpets by going barefoot or sock mode indoors.

Celebrating something special? Let us know in advance. Weddings, birthdays, and reunions need prior approval.

Speed limit in Surf Pines: 25 MPH. Roads are narrow and monitored. Slow and scenic wins the race!

Youā€™ll get a private gate codeā€”treat it like a front door key. Youā€™re responsible for anything that happens using it.

Stick to public paths for lake and beach access. No wandering through othersā€™ yards, tempting as that might be.

No fireworks, hunting, or shooting. Beach bonfires are OKā€”just keep them on the sand, not the lawn.

šŸšØ A Quick but Important PSA
We are able to host you because we have a Clatsop County permitā€”but that permit can be revoked if we receive complaints or if our rules aren't followed. We really want to keep sharing this home, so we take violations seriously.

Fines: $250 per violation, per day

Evictions: Yes, we will evict guests for serious violationsā€”no refunds

Liability: If your actions lead to neighbor complaints or permit risk, weā€™ll hold you financially responsible for all damages, expected or not

By booking this property, you agree to all of the above. We appreciate your understanding and cooperationā€”it means the world to us (and our neighbors!).

Weā€™re not just protecting our permitā€”weā€™re protecting the guest experience, the vibe of Surf Pines, and the ability for future travelers (like you!) to continue enjoying this magical place.

Thanks for reading (and following) the rules with a smile!

Great Place
This was one of the most well stocked rentals weā€™ve been to - kitchen, laundry, bathrooms, even blankets! Beautiful location - we even got to see elk out the window. And so much to do! We used the kayaks, clam spades, games, foosball, and the kids had a blast with the toys! Enjoyed our time very much!

Family Beach Trip
We had a very nice 4 night stay here! 6 adults and 4 children. Two bedrooms are upstairs and two are down. Everything looked and felt clean. There were plenty of towels and bedding. The kitchen was well stocked with pots and pans and utensils. And there were lots of extra amenitiesā€¦.like beach chairs, games and puzzles. I didnā€™t appreciate the wine selection that was displayed because they had inappropriate labels for young children. Surprising, for a place otherwise geared for families. But over all I would recommend a stay here! We had a mama deer with two babies in the yard a couple of the days. And we saw about a dozen elk on our walk to the beach.

Beautiful home and location
This home was perfect for our 2 families. Great property and location. I would definitely stay here again. As for some of the other reviews, if you understand what the rules are and plan to follow them, then you're not going to have any issues. You can't have more than the 14 guests and if you plan to, than rent a different place. Pretty simple.

Thoughtful Details
This home was exceptionally clean. The "no pets" rule helps with that I'm sure and as a person with allergies, was greatly appreciated. The venue has many thoughtful amenities: A well-stocked coffee/snack bar, ping-pong and other games in the garage with popsicles in the freezer, lots of streaming channels to choose from, and much more. We explored Astoria and Fort Stevens, and had good coffee and pastries just down the road at the bakery at the four-way stop. Very pleasant, convenient rental. Highly recommended.

Swallow the anchor stay
This house is amazing!! Well kept, beautiful home. Lots of room for our entire family of 11. The owners think of everything. Family games, ping pong, yard games, bbq, snacks, cooking utensils, pots and pans, etc. You name it they have you covered!! Excellent!! A wonderful home away from home experience!! We used the kayaks on the lake and just a short drive to the ocean at sunset beach. We even rode the bikes there one day. Close to Seaside and Cannon beach. The only negative was the loveseat was broken and we hesitated to use it for fear we would fully break it. Other than that a definite A+!!! Wouldnt hesitate to rent again.. Thank you

Well stocked
Coffee bar and snacks were a nice touch! House was large, clean, and had everything you could possibly need. The location is quiet and central to all the local attractions. We found the house a little chilly albeit your typical spring break weather in Oregonā€¦ sunny, stormy, and even a little snow. A fire would have helped but we didnā€™t want to have to clean it if Iā€™m going to be honest. The main bed was very comfortable Iā€™m told. The other beds were a little too firm, Iā€™d suggest a few foam toppers. As far as the rules go, they were a little overwhelming, but I completely understand the position the owners are in and feel badly for themā€¦ The neighbors are not very welcoming and itā€™s quite obvious they donā€™t want short term rentals in the neighborhood. Follow the rules and be mindful that youā€™re not staying in a frat house and youā€™ll be fine. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay here again.

House is beautiful, but not worth the communication issues
The house is beautiful, but there is certainly not enough space for 14 people. Air mattress, which was considered a ā€œbedā€ was flat. Had to fill out extensive waivers to even get the key code, and was only released hours before arrival because we reached out. Very grateful to have been able to enter the house ā€œearlyā€ (check in was 5 pm and we were told it was nonnegotiable), but not without significant numbers of condescending emails and communications from the owner. It seems like there is a lot going on behind the scenes with home rentals in the area, but we didnā€™t really appreciate being treated as if we were going to destroy the place and break all the rules before we even arrived. Especially because we were completely transparent about our plans and number of people. Worth it because we really needed a place to sleep after the Hood to Coast, but otherwise just not worth the hassle and accusatory tone we dealt with.

Buyer Beware!!!
I have spent a lot of time thinking about what I wanted to convey to people who are considering this property and I can only say that I was both shocked & disappointed by the email I received after our stay & the list of things our family was accused of breaking or doing wrong which resulted in the loss of our deposit. The rule we broke is that no more than 4 cars are allowed in the driveway at a time. Due to a change in circumstances that I was not aware of prior to people arriving we had 5 cars. We tried to be diligent about making sure we stayed to the 4 car minimum but we were having dinner together one night & forgot about the car rule . The owner showed up to express her displeasure & advise me that neighbors were complaining & that one of the cars were sticking out of the driveway. I apologized & told her we would move a car immediately and we did. I was shocked to see a list of things that she is accusing us of breaking or doing wrong. Itā€™s upsetting to me because it paints a picture of our family that isnā€™t true. We have rented many VRBOā€™s over the years and have never had a complaint or a problem If you look at the reviews of this rental or others they own I am not the first person this has happened to.

Great house for rainy days
First the no animals was great as we have an asthmatic in the group. I rent about two houses a year, family on both coasts. For over 15 years. This house exceeded our expectations. I have never had such a well equipped house. The bathrooms had every supply you could need. The kitchen had good cooking set up and the spice cabinet was complete. The grandkids loved the snacks provided the cereal and cheddar fish they could help themselves to. Coffee bar was a nice feature. Most houses offer nothing in the way of basics , even sugar and coffee. The house bedding feels new and all rooms are tastefully decorated. Fireplace was a nice asset. The fools ball and ping pong were great entertainment. The winner was the play bedroom. A walk in closet full of every age toys. Enough Legos for everyone.
