Amazing!
This house had the perfect location, not far from the airport and right next to the Queens Marketplace, Kings Shops, and a beautiful golf course. The community pools were a very short walk from the house, as was the workout facility. The house itself had everything we needed to enjoy our vacation. The outdoor patio was perfect for sitting outside and enjoying a cocktail in the evening. We fell in love with this island and when we come back we will definitely stay here again.

Our family had such a great stay in the unit. Hosts were very easy to communicate with and were great hosts. The Big Island in April 2023
Kat & Derry's property is lovely. We enjoyed every minute of our stay there. The kitchen was more than well-stocked with appliances and utensils. The washer and dryer were very handy to have. It was easy to settle in and get comfortable. The overall Waikoloa Beach Resort area is very nice. We especially liked our meals at the Lava Lava Beach Club and found the Queens Market very convenient for quick, simple meals.

Long awaited vacation
We had planned this trip a long time ago . Due to a surgery we postponed for a time. But we returned to the Big Island . This is our second stay in Kona and Waikoloa area . We enjoyed the island and beautiful beaches . The Hale Pele home was terrific. It had everything one would need for a vacation . Kat and Derry has the best communication on the home, as well as adventures in the area. It is close to all beaches and nearby restaurants .

First time on the Big Island
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kat and Derry's villa at Waikoloa Colony Villas. The villa was exactly what we were expecting from the description. The villa was bright, clean, and had everything we needed for our stay and more. There are 2 pools and a hot tub, which we took advantage of every evening. We enjoyed sitting on the patio in the morning, beautiful view, watching the sun come up having a cup of coffee. The location is excellent, lot's of fun places to check out nearby, and a good starting place for exploring the island. Best fish taco's were at Umekes Fish Market in Kona and a great lunch at Hawaiian Style Cafe in Hilo. Kat and Derry were quick to respond to our questions. Would definintly stay there again when we return to Hawaii. Very deserving of a 5 star rating.

Comfortable home base
We found the condo to be a comfortable home base for our exploration of the Big Island. It provided a great amount of space to spread out and a nice bed to rest after a long day spent in the sun. We appreciated the ample amount of bath towels and beach supplies. We didn’t know what to expect with The Waikoloa resort area since we had never visited before. In general, it is showing it’s age, but it is beautiful nonetheless. I would say the same for the complex the condo is in. This condo is not exactly as fresh and new as I typically prefer, but we liked it for what I mentioned above and for the price in comparison to others in the area. It’s a good value.

First impressions is everything!
This is a beautifully, well maintained rental. Everything in the listing is what is in the home, to make your stay easy and comfortable. Communication and instructions from Kat and Derry were timely and thorough. We took advantage of the discounted golf rates, the BBQ grills, the snorkel gear, beach chairs, the washer/dryer and the garage which is standard size, so if your car rental is oversized it will be a tight squeeze. The pride of ownership shows in all the little details throughout the home. Including a well equipped kitchen, and bathrooms with plenty of towels and linens. Waikoloa Village has so much to offer. This area of the island is amazing. We highly recommend this property.

A little slice of paradise
Kat was amazing to work with when we had a question or if we needed anything and very responsive! The property was very clean, comfortable and had everything we needed as far as beach towels, boogie boards, mask and snorkels and beach chairs! We couldn’t have asked for much more. The only negative for us was that the temperature is set at 74 and cannot be lowered which I feel should be advertised. It was fine because we were at the beautiful pool, the beach or just traveling every day. Even with the ceiling fan and another air purifier that doubles as a fan, it was a little warm sleeping. We were able to open one window which helped a little:). It would not hinder me from staying again. We have been to the big island many times and have always stayed in hotels. I will never stay at a hotel again, after this amazing experience! Thank you Kat! If was an amazing trip because of you and your team!

Great location, but lots of deal breakers.
When we first arrived at Hale Pele, we were happy to find that the place was very clean (a big deal for us), and well stocked. Like most vacation rentals, it was stocked with boogie boards, snorkel equipment, beach chairs, beach towels, sand toys and other great things that are a requirement for a beach vacation but you don't really want to bring from home. The kitchen was also well stocked, and there was plenty of laundry detergent and things like paper towels and toilet paper, etc. We have been regular visitors to Waikoloa for the last 20 years, and know the area well, but it looks like they provided a ton of info for those visiting for the first time. So far, so good, right? Dealbreaker #1: Like many people, we depend on fast, reliable WiFi. Our family loves to stream a movie at night and my husband needed to work remotely on our trip. The WiFi was unreliable from the start (sometimes no problem, other times it seemed to go down and internet access was nonexistent for hours). We reset the router several times to no avail. I finally contacted the owners to get help resolving this issue. Their suggestion was that *we* should contact their cable company to try to resolve the issue. We felt it was inappropriate to ask a guest to sort out a utility issue while on vacation. We were seriously frustrated and disappointed in their response. Dealbreaker #2: My husband and son are some of those people who run a bit warmer sometimes. No problem. When we went to adjust the thermostat there is a note stating, "The temperature cannot be set below 74. Please do not try to reprogram the thermostat. This can result in damage to the air conditioner and a service call." Wait, what? We are in a tropical environment and the thermostat has been throttled to 74? At home we set it to 72. (I understand the need to contain costs, and they did a great job in linking the AC to the doors/windows so when they are open the AC turns off. Totally understandable.) However, the fact that several members of our family were too warm really impacted our enjoyment of the property. We would NEVER have booked at this property had I known the temperature would be throttled like this. There were other small, annoying issues I won't even mention, but these two issues were the ones that really negatively impacted our vacation. We will be returning to Waikoloa yearly, but will not be staying here again. There are lots of other VRBOs without the dealbreakers above.

Beautiful and family friendly Waikoloa Vacation
We had the best time here in beautiful Waikoloa. The Hale Pele was as exactly as described in the listing and photos. Kat was wonderful to work with and quick to respond to our questions. We are a family of 6, ages 8-17 and our kids loved it here. The Townhome had everything we needed, spices, dishes, pans and Kona coffee provided, thank you! The kids loved all the close by shopping at Kings and Queens marketplace. On our beach days which was pretty much daily the home provided everything we needed; towels, bags, cooler (although we brought ours,) 4 boogie boards, snorkel gear, 4 chairs and tons of umbrellas to keep us shaded. We loved going to Hapuna and Kua Bay for our beach/boogie board days and A bay for Sunsets. You can see turtles on the left side of A Bay just past Lava Lava Beach club. Drinks at Lava Lava are amazing and their is live music there too . One day we explored the Island from Waikoloa to Kona, to Punalu'u bakery, Black Sands, Volcano National park and beautiful Hilo and Rainbow Falls. This Island truly is magically and there is so much more to see. This home and location is perfect for a couple or family. We would stay here again.
