Nice spot close to the park
We stayed in the Liko room and it was nice for our four night stay. The only down sides were the smell in the bathroom and some minor annoyances with Windows being closed by housekeeping while we were away. The bathroom smelled pretty potently of sewage or septic. The last morning it permeated our room and was unpleasant. We would also leave fans on and Windows open while we wet away each day to help keep the room from getting so hot. When we got back, all the windows would be shut and the fans off and our room unbearably stuffy. I understand trying to conserve energy but it made the room quite unpleasant know the evenings. But it is a great location and not a bad price for its location.

A very nice placw for the price.
To my surprise, the room was dry not humid and the chalet has a nice common dining area and the shared bathroom was well maintained and clean.

Great Hotel close to the volcano
This was a great little hotel. The room was up to date and clean. The little balcony was great. We enjoyed the hot tub. We only stayed one night but it served our purpose very well. Highly recommended.

Arrived to a cosy, warm and clean room. The bathroom was clean. They had cable TV which was nice at night, but there was no remote control for the TV. The bed was comfortable, there was an extra quilt thankfully because it does get cold in the middle of the night. The lodge is about 10 minutes from the volcano national park which was nice and convenient. Overall a nice experience, will come back and recommend.

Great location
Great location for night time viewing of the volcano ... Definitely a highlight of the visit. The place met our needs, good place for a late arrival and early departure. Excellent place for families due to several rooms and a common kitchen. I would stay here again

Clean Basic Accommodations
My husband and I stayed at Volcano Hale, built in 1912, in the Ohia room. The room was clean, the bathrooms were redone and clean. The kitchen was redone and clean. The kitchen has a gas range, 2 coffee makers, microwave, toaster oven. A dish drain, dish soap, sponge and two kitchen towels (replaced daily) are provided. The towels (bath, hand and face cloths) in the bathroom are plentiful and clean. The building has nine sleeping rooms and three bathrooms. The property was not fully booked while we were there and there was never a problem finding an open bathroom. We expected to feel of parental age compared to the other guests. However that wasn't true. The other guests were from Japan, Canada, Germany... and the US. Everyone did their own dishes, ate their own food and was quiet at night. We could not have asked for better co-guests. I'd give higher ratings if the bed were firmer and didn't give me a backache and if there were a few easy chairs available in the common areas.

Good budget accommodation
We enjoyed our stay and would stay again. Our room was small but nicely appointed, and the bed was comfortable. The shared bath was large and modern. The only downside is that there is no soundproofing so when someone else is in the washroom, it's like you're standing right next to them.

Beware the separations
Before considering this place, make sure you understand the lay of the land in the Volcano area, and the bunch of Volcano properties. The properties are scattered and not easy to find. I wouldn't have stayed here with friends who had to stay at a property away from us.

Why are people so rude?
First and last time doing a share. I dont want to get up at 530 and hear you and the old lady fighting. Will get private room next time. Volcano blows. Just keep going to the other side. Csn seeeverything on the drive over.

Good value near the volcano
There are 9 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms in this house - I could always get into a bathroom when I needed to. The shared bathroom on the top floor where I stayed was very nice - well stocked with towels and toiletries. Shower only but it was huge. There is a useful kitchen area on middle floor with a large dining table. Everything very clean. Wifi worked really well. There were extra bed covers and a heater in the room - it did get chilly overnight.

Nice budget accomodation
The place is near the Volcano National Park; so ideal for budget conscious people interested to experience the 'volcano part' of the Big Island, not the beaches. The room is small and bathroom is shared with other people in the same house. However you get a kitchen to cook your meals, if you wish, and you get free high speed internet.

Beauty Beyond Belief
It would be difficult to find better lodging in Volcano at the price we paid. The surroundings are absolutely gorgeous. The room was clean and the facilitiy had amenities not available in most places.

Great place to experience Volcano
Exactly what we were looking for. Similar feel to b&b. cute little place with great staff. It isn't a 5 star resort, but it was fantastic for a place to stay. Exceeded expectations!

Nice place to watch a mountain blow it's top.
Stayed 6 days to explore the valcano and drive around the big island. The hostel was attractive, shared areas nice and clean, and rooms nice. The shared dining area provided a location to meet the other guests. Met several guests from around the world enjoyed the atmosphere. Overall would stay there again.

Great lodging for those traveling on a budget
Traveling for business to Ka'u and Naalehu with limited budget for hotel room. Staying in Volcano a great idea to avoid the morning rush of Hilo or Kona Traffic

Nice king bed. TV worked well. Kitchen immaculate.
We only had one night. Clean room. Comfortable bed. Staff change our room to ground floor which was wonderful because we had lots of luggage. Clean kitchen. Super place to stay. Very reasonable rates.

Great stop for one night
Nice and quiet. Our bed was a bit uncomfortable for my taste and the room got warm at night. Just open the windows and let the cooler mountain air in and you'll be fine. Would stay a second time.

Hidden rainforest retreat
Never having been to this area before, we planned a trip to see the volcanoes and decided to stay rather than drive all the way back to Kona. We found this place online and the price and location were right. It is kind of tucked in off of the street and we almost missed it. Our room had its own little patio and parking which was great. All in all it was clean and while not fancy it had a certain old school Hawaiian charm. It was really just the noise from the room above us ( all night) which interrupted our sleep that prevented us giving it a higher rating.

Great place to stay.
This is a great place to stay. It is secluded and close to the Volcano National Park. The room was a little hot during the day but cooled down quickly at night.

Good Location, Unforgivable Mattresses!
As other reviewers have commented, there are multiple houses with different rooms, offering something unique to your experience staying at Volcano Kilauea. Checking into the establishment, I was excited to see what the Olena Room, which was in a different location to the main house, would offer. While the location is great in respect to the National Park Entrance, there were a couple of things that I found disappointing, and one thing I found unforgivable. The room was on the smaller side and clean, the bathroom, also small, had terrible water pressure. The hot tub that was advertised wasn't even working. Those things I can get over, the one thing I found unforgivable was how HARD the mattresses were! If you like sleeping on a floor, then you will not have this problem. Myself and my boyfriend, however found it to be a miserable experience and tossed and turned all night long. In my opinion, the main thing you pay for in a hotel is somewhere to sleep! I would not recommend this "place to sleep" to anyone who enjoys sleeping on a reasonable mattress. Having said this, there were small perks that are included in the room I should note: clean empty mini fridge, wine opener and wine glasses, coffee pot with coffee. Hot tub at main house was in order, so we travelled to take advantage of this feature. It's decent and offeres 3 (steeply) reclining seating positions with water jet massagers. Take advantage of it if you can, it was a nice treat before an uncomfortable sleep.

We liked having the kitchen available but found the room under the stairs very noisy when upstairs guests came and went. The bed was very comfortable.
