Polfages where the mountains meet the sea, 3 Gites With Pool And Stunning Views

We have spent 7 years looking for our dream house and location, now that we have found it we want to offer you in Domaine de Polfages the chance to enjoy the best standards found in English country cottages with the lifestyle that can only be found in the South of France. With in an easy drive of Carcassonne and Toulouse and only 15 minutes from the historic town of Mirepoix. With a location we fell in love with it really is one of the most relaxing and beautiful places we have ever seen. Domaine de Polfages is an idyllic location for your holiday. Situated overlooking rolling hills with views over to the Montagne Noir on one side and the Pyrenees on the other. It offers a holiday that can be both relaxing and action packed. Domaine de Polfages is ideal if you just want to sit by the pool and relax taking in the stunning views or if you want to make the most of you time in the region. With the beach just over an hour away and the mountains the same you can truly get the best of both types of holiday.

Calmont is 1 of the 3 gites that we offer our guests, each of the gites are individual units allowing our guests their own private space. However one or all of the gites can be rented for larger parties allowing us to take groups of up to 14 people. The gites have been configured to allow large groups to be together during the day but have their own space if they want in the evening.

Our gite Calmont is made up of a well equipped kitchen and dining area leading through to a comfortable lounge. The lounge has a wood burning stove for those cooler evenings and leads onto the private terrace and BBQ area, where you live the alfresco life style whilst relaxing with the stunning views over your own private garden area. You can access the rest of the large gardens and swimming pool from the terrace.

Upstairs there are 2 spacious bedrooms each with en-suite. Both bedrooms can be arranged with either 2 single beds or a super king size bed, offering you maximum flexibility and a great nights sleep. Both bed rooms have access to their own private balcony where you can watch the sun come up over the rolling hills whilst enjoying a morning coffee.

There is access to WIFI and English TV channels so you can stay in touch with the world should you so desire.

Beautiful location, welcoming hosts!
Perfect- beautiful surroundings, lovely pool, well equipped gite, friendly hosts and gorgeous dogs. We would thoroughly recommend Andrew and Jo's place. Very little can beat the bliss of floating in the pool with a beer and that phenomenal view.

Wonderful escape with fantastic views
We have just returned from having the most fabulous week in Polfages. On arrival we were met by Andrew & Jo our hosts who showed us around the property that was to be our home for our stay and home it truly was as we were treated so well There was a fresh welcome pack in our beautiful gite with everything from homemade jam to eggs from Mrs Peckett their hen The gite is reflective of the amount of hard work that they have put into it. The views are something else I felt totally relaxed watching the daily sunrise and wonderful sunset in the evenings over a few glasses of wine We planned on eating out locally however after experiencing our arrival meal on the first day we ate with Jo, Andrew and their lovely daughter for the rest of our stay as Andrew is a brilliant cook who served us a variety of food including local dishes We made firm friends with the family's 3 lovely dogs and I had so much of a soft spot for Rufus I could have taken him home with us Andrew provided us with lots of useful info on the history of the area with some great advise for days out etc We travelled within the hour to a fab beach in Narbonne and also went and spent the day in Carcasonne The local town of Mirapoix was steeped in history and so worth the visit We have now returned back home having made firm friends with this lovely family and can't wait to plan a return visit for next year I am reluctant to spread the word as we want to keep this hidden gem to ourselves Thanks again for our wonderful stay

Idyllic location, stunning views and perfect hosts!
We've stayed with Andrew and Jo 3 times and their hospitality and attention to detail has always been beyond compare. They've created beautiful gites and the balcony on this end gite provides perfect views and privacy. We simply can't praise them enough!

Fantastic position with beautiful views, Jo and Andrew are excellent hosts
Pol Fages is in an ideal position with amazing views of the surrounding countryside, the sunrise and sunset is to die for. Jo and Andrew could not have been more helpful and the dogs were an added bonus for us. We love Rufus hehe. The Beclaire Gite was well appointed, especially the kitchen, lounge and bedrooms, although there is a little remedial work required (this is on going). The patio area was perfect for our needs, with an excellent BBQ and gave great views and wonderful sunrises. The pool area also needs some remedial work but again this is planned for the Autumn. If you want peace, tranquillity and beautiful surroundings, I recommend the Gites without doubt. Finally, a holiday is not just what YOU make it, it is what your hosts make it and Jo and Andrew went the extra mile to ensure we had a great time. Thanks to you both!!!!!

A great place to relax with stunning views
Warm welcome, lovely gites and stunning views. You will certainly need a car as the gites are quite remote from all shops and facilities. Gites are spacious and generally well equipped, although a freezer or larger fridge would have been handy to reduce the travel for shopping. Some of the fittings in Calmont will need attention soon - stair rails a bit wobbly. Would benefit from some local area guide information to read - although Jo and Andrew easily on hand to ask. Mirepoix is a place worth visiting, especially the markets. Would also benefit from some activities such as table tennis etc. There is space on site for this. We drove to the coast on a couple of occassions which was a good 1. 5 hours away due to traffic - found some lovely beaches and great seafood. Make sure that you like dogs as they are frequent visitors to your gite but very friendly. We flew from Beziers but traffic very busy on way back, so be prepared for this in your planning.

Wonderful Holiday Retreat
We have just returned from a wonderful 3 week holiday at Polfages, which was really a home from home with the addition of amazing scenery and weather. The Gite offered every comfort and it was just great to be able to get up on a morning to go for lovely walks, enjoy a swim and then breakfast on the terrace. We could not get enough of the stunning views and peaceful location- even 3 weeks was not enough and we will be hoping to return in the near future. Andrew and Jo made us truly welcome; they provide a fantastic holiday retreat where it really is possible to unwind and enjoy life at a relaxing pace. They were always happy to help whether it was suggesting ideas of places to visit, supplying delicious fresh eggs for supper and of course providing meals such as Andrew's home made pizzas and fresh garden salads in such beautiful surroundings. We would just like to thankyou Andrew and Jo, for all you did in enabling our group to enjoy such a wonderful holiday- you were so flexible and accommodating and we couldn't ask for anything more. Hopefully we will have opportunity to come out again and enjoy lots more experiences at your delightful home.

Everything we could have wished for!
We wanted a typical French Gite, traditional yet fully equipped with all,the mod cons. We wanted to be slightly off the beaten track but within easy access of good restaurants and supermarket. We wanted to be able to fly relatively inexpensively and be within a short drive of our destination when we landed. The location needed to be within reach of the beautiful Pyrenees , the Meditteranean coast and with good access to the abundant historical sights that are prevalent in this region. To cap it off we wanted a swimming pool and good weather. Well, we got all that , including the sunshine but in addition we got two wonderful hosts . Both Andrew and Jo were so helpful and friendly . Their knowledge of the area and accompanying advice helped us to make the most of our stay. I haven't mentioned yet the scenery. Think of Tuscany mixed with the Nappa valley and a dash of Cotswolds , wonderful. We heartily recommend this property and fully intend to make a return visit Robin and Christine Holt.

Polfages, even better than the described
We have just spent a really relaxing and enjoyable week at Polfages. The gite was very clean and well equipped with everything we needed. The hosts Andrew and Jo were very friendly and able to suggest some of the best things to do during our stay, allowing us to get the most out of the holiday. We took advantage of having the 1st shop done for us, meaning that everything we needed as there when we arrived and we could just settle in. Over the week we had a number of meals cooked for us and it was great to be able to just come in after a busy day site seeing and enjoy a really good home cooked meal. Over all a relaxing and beautiful place to stay with stunning views and we could not have asked for more. We thoroughly recommended it.

A wonderful relaxing stay
The house was lovely and extremely comfortable and Jo and Andrew couldn't have been kinder. We opted to eat in on several evenings and Andrew cooked us beautiful meals, with plenty of choice. We enjoyed many afternoons around the pool, admiring the countryside which is extremely beautiful. I highly recommend Polfages.

Beautiful Place
Along with my husband and two Australian friends we stayed for a week at Polfage, it was a truly lovely break. The gite had everything we needed and the welcome from Andrew and Jo and Jasmine was very warm. The views from Polfage across the French countryside in the morning and evenings was sublime and those images remain with us now we are back in Scotland. It was also a great base from which to tour that part of France. Andrew's local knowledge of places to see and things to do was excellent and made our trip even better. The two dogs were extremely friendly and well trained and fresh eggs from the chickens made for a lovely breakfast. We would highly recommend Polfage for a holiday. Kate and Richard Cairns

Great place to stay
We stayed for one week at Polfages with 2 friends in a 2 bed gite. It was wonderful. The weather was perfect and the gite was perfect particularly at the end of the row of three. The gite is very comfortable and has every convenience. Andrew and Jo are very helpful with information about the area and where to go. You will need a car - it is 11 kms from Mirepoix but it was a pleasure to drive around (or be driven in our case) in the glorious, autumnal countryside. The cats, dogs, chooks, vege patch all add to the wonderful views. Would happily stay again

Peaceful and scenic location
The gite is tastefully and comfortably furnished, and the location is perfect for a relaxing holiday away from it all. A car is an absolute must - we enjoyed exploring the surrounding area and can recommend days out in Mirepoix, Foix, Toulouse, and of course Carcassonne - all less than an hour's drive away. We do however have a couple of constructive criticisms. Calmont (the most newly refurbished gite) felt a little spartan and unfinished. We understand that pets are welcome (in fact the owners' dogs seem to make themselves at home too). This is fine if you're a dog lover - but not everyone is. There were also lots of dog hairs on the carpet mats and sofas - again not a problem if you're a dog lover - but quite alienating for others. The absence of a vacuum or long handled brush didn't help matters. On a similar vein, the 'private' terrace isn't fenced off, allowing the dogs and others to freely wander past the French windows (no curtains/blinds/shutters in place to maintain privacy). We also found quite a bit of dog mess in the garden area - for this reason I would hesitate leaving children to play in the garden area. I was also quite surprised to find that the pool isn't fenced off - I believe this is a legal requirement in France - again a worry with young children. Finally, I do believe visitors would benefit from an information pack, with details about the gite, its facilities as well as the local area. Although the owners are on hand to answers question, it isn't always convenient to go and ask. A few games would be a good addition (we donated a deck of cards) and some DVDs, otherwise the DVD player is redundant. Please understand that these are small points, but important ones (to us anyway). I hope they are taken in the manner they're intended - as ways to aim for total customer satisfaction.

Perfect gite amongst the sunflowers!
We had a fantastic fortnight staying at Polfages near Vilatou. The site had been newly refurbished and was completed to a very high standard. The owners Andrew and Jo couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. The area is stunningly beautiful set amongst the rolling fields of sunflowers and is well place for trips into picturesque Mirepoix and south to Montsegur. All in all a lovely holiday and we're already trying to work out when to return!

A wonderful property in a glorious setting
From the very first moment, the owners Jo and Andy couldn't do anything more for us. We absolutely loved the rolling hills and beautiful French countryside and every aspect of the house is beautiful. The views are to die for, with mountains to the North and South and fields and farms surrounding this property. We found our three bedroom gite very spacious with everything that we needed. All three bedrooms were large and with three bathrooms we had plenty of room, with very hot, powerful showers in each bathroom (which is always nice after a day in the sun). The beds were extremely comfy, and we had all creature comforts like English TV, DVD, Wifi etc. The pool area was lovely with large grassed areas and we had our own patio with dining chairs and table and barbecue. Jo & Andy helped us to hire and get a bike delivered and as an additional service they offer shopping and cooking (with a very nice pizza oven in the garden - our boys loved the home made pizzas). We felt like we were part of the family with our children helping to feed the goats, hens, cats and dogs and they were always on hand to assist or give advice whenever we asked. There is also a lovely feel to the place, with history and solitude and the perfect place to relax. We had the best time there, and loved visiting the nearby town of Mirepoix which was new to us. We went to Lac de Montbel which is about a 30-40 minute drive and has a beach, pedalo, boats, swimming, cafe etc. and good for the children. Most of the week we had glorious sunshine and there are some very quiet roads that we walked, ran and cycled on nearby. All in all such a brilliant week, would recommend to anyone and are planning to return there in summer 2016. Thanks to Jo & Andy for welcoming us into their home - they are such a wonderful couple. All the gites are furnished to a very high standard and are extremely comfortable and homely. Thanks for everything, the Bartys family

A Little Piece of Heaven....
The photos of Jj French bites do not do the property justice. We stayed in gite Mazamet and it was huge! Large open plan kitchen/dining on the ground floor that looked out onto the terrace, garden and pool. 3 large bedrooms upstairs, each with a large ensuing bathroom. All very well appointed. Everything worked, and the beds were super comfy. This is an old (but modernised) building that was easy to keep cool during the day with shutters. Andrew and Jo were super helpful, and the kids loved having tHe dogs and chickens hanging around. The views from the pool over the valley were amazing, and watching the sunsets from Andrew's terrace became a bit of a nightly habit. Andrew and Jo are very well integrated into the local community, with all of the local gossip.......... We visited Montsegur castle, Carcassone cite, Carcassone plage ( a must for the adventure water area), St Hilaire Abbey. Mirepoix is an amazing medieval town. If you're visiting Cacassone, park in Gambetti square and walk up over the Pont Vieux for the best views. We'd love to return next year, definitely timing a visit with the Fanjeaux fete, and hopefully bringing our friends!

Amazing Time at Polfage
Our family had the most amazing time at Polfage! The Gite was a lovely mixture of country house but with modern facilities. It was the perfect layout for our large family with four kids! The owners, Jo and Andrew have been very kind and helpful at all times and made us feel very welcome! It's been the perfect country hideaway to get away from every day's stress and we could really relax and enjoy ourselves and splash at the nice pool! We warmly recommend Polfage to every family! Thumbs up big time!!!!!

High-spec accommodation in a beautiful location
We stayed for one week at the end of May in the gite 'Calmont' - a two bedroom (both en-suite) newly completed gite. The location is stunning - rolling countryside in all directions and fabulous views all round. The situation is tranquil but not too far (about 15 mins) from towns like Mirepoix with its medieval houses, shops and restaurants. The foothills of the Pyrenees, the coast and cities like Carcassonne and Narbonne are all reachable within an hour by car. Cathar sites like Montsegur are within easy reach. There are plenty of quiet lanes and tracks to explore on foot and the nature (particularly wild birds and flowers) is breathtaking. Andrew and Jo - the English owners (French spoken) - have worked hard to make the accommodation at Polfages comfortable, high-spec and well-equipped. They are a lovely family who are well-integrated into the local community and have a wealth of local knowledge to help a first-time visitor to the area. Our highest recommendation is that we want to return!

Stunning views over the countryside
Fabulous location for a lover of the countryside. Stunning views of Pyrenees. If you are wanting to escape the rat race then this is the place to be. On arrival we were greeted by the English owners who were very helpful and knowledgeable of the area. The gite was recently refurbished to a very high standard and was very welcoming with all the home comforts, such as English TV, very comfy beds, well equipped kitchen. The gite was very clean and tidy throughout. Fresh eggs were available from the owners Jo and Andrew who live next door. They offered to cook for us for an additional fee. I would highly recommend this- the food was fabulous, I would certainly plan a return visit.

Stunning views, fabulous location.
My family and I had the pleasure of staying in Polfage for a week in April. An absolutely fantastic place to stay with stunning views of the French countryside. Andrew and Jo were incredibly nice and welcoming doing their utmost to for us to enjoy their special place. The gîte (Calmont) is tastefully furnished with everything needed for a great stay. Well equipped kitchen and spacious sitting/dining room. The bedrooms were spacious and comfortable each having an ensuite with heated towel rails and with generous size showers. The beds were very comfortable with lovely crisp sheets equalling any five star hotel. The quality of bedding was simply fabulous. Needless to say, we slept extremely well every night. We had our own private terrace and it was lovely to sit out and have breakfast with great views of the rolling countryside. We thoroughly enjoyed the home cooked meals using fresh organic seasonal produce along with local wines and cheeses. All our dietary requirements were well catered for. The children loved the fresh homemade pizzas cooked in the pizza oven. All meals were of an amazingly high standard allowing us to enjoy the fabulous gastronomic region of South West France. Well done Andrew and Jo.
