You can also hike or attend the animal conservatory at Grandfather Mountain and don’t forget about the Scottish Highland Festival in Linville in mid-July or Tanger Outlets, Tomahawk Hill or Mystery Hill in Blowing Rock. 4th of July parades and firework shows abound in all towns in the High Country. Also there are several options for live theater in Boone and Banner Elk
**please note the only access to the river is at the bridge. All other property along the river is private.
As magical as summer is in the High Country, Fall season gives summer a run for its money. Leaf viewing peaks around the 3rd week in October, but the end of September through the end of October offers some spectacular colors. Get your fall pumpkins at Curiosity on Hwy 105, attend the Woolly Worm Festival in Banner Elk, the Valle Country Fair in Valle Crucis, or take in a football game with Sun Belt conference multi-champions Appalachian State University Mountaineers. Or just stay at the cottage in front of a roaring fire with a pumpkin spice latte.
Winter offers lots of snow sports including a 15-20 minute drive to 3 local ski resorts...Appalachian Mountain, Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain. All 3 offer some of the best skiing on the East Coast. You can also snow-shoe on many of our local trails. Although 2020 was rough for everyone, Mother Nature gave us a perfectly White Christmas. Regardless of your religious affiliation, enjoy a magical, candle-light Christmas Eve service at Holy Cross church in Valle Crucis (come early for seats).
