The former fishing village of Burgau has a few small food stores, gift shops and a variety of cafe bars and restaurants. There is a good beach bar for dining with beach & sea views, and water sports and surfing are available locally. There is a local bus service to Lagos, Luz, or taxis if you don't have a car. There is free parking nearby if you have a car, and so many beautiful places to visit in the stunning nature reserve, Natural Parque de Vicentina, with gigantic Atlantic sculpted cliffs and countless beaches backed by wooded hills and mountains. The historic walled city of Lagos is15 mins drive and has markets, shops, restaurants, beach and marina.
Other wonderful destinations include the spa town of Monchique, in the mountains to the north, and the ancient settlement of Silves with its11th century intact castle, built on previous fortifications dating back to the Phoenicians, Greeks Carthaginians, Romans and the Moors, a strategic site with panoramic views of the surrounding area. Rather a lot of history to absorb!
Along the coast towards Faro in the east there are several water parks, Sand City near Lagoa and many other major attractions for children and adults alike. Tours are available from Lagos.
Horse riding is available near Burgau and bicycles can be hired locally.
There are many Golf Courses, the closest to Burgau being Santa Antonio/Parque da Floresta, Espiche Golf and Boa Vista near Praia da Luz.
