Muìn a Véntu Garden Tower is a historical landmark, one of the most exclusive rentals in Vernazza. It is a unique property where history and nature mingle to offer a memorable holiday in the Cinque Terre. Now it is well known as Luca's tower, the tower potrayed on Disney Pixar's movie "LUCA" and kids go mad about it!
This amazing tower lies at the beginning of the path that takes from Vernazza to Corniglia.
The Villa
Access to Muìn a Véntu Garden Tower is from a gate that opens on a luxuriant garden with views on the entire village and the waters. Being a tower, the property offers a peculiar accommodation.
The Annex Part
On entering the tower base we find a passage to the adjacent annex, which is a big open space with double bed, dining area with an art table and kitchen corner. The kitchen is simple with essential equipment: a refrigerator and an electric burner. The old marble sink let us feel as in a typical Ligurian kitchen of the past. All furnishing and decorations are peculiar pieces of art. They come from the crafty and artistic genius of the actual owner. Giorgio is a sculptor and master set designer, and his wife, a drama director. The door, leading to the small bathroom with shower, is another piece of art, hand drawn with Indian ink by a famous designer.
The Tower Part
Going back to the tower circle, we explore now the "tower". Through a wooden ladder we have access to the tower first floor. Here we find a second "bedroom" with a handmade French Size (130 cm) bed. Then, another ladder takes us up to the last floor of the tower, where we have a single bed. All guests, willing to enjoy the beauty and the preciousness of this place, will have to renounce to "some modern comforts" against the exclusiveness of the place. In case of 2 couples or a family of 5 renting the tower, consider that guests sleeping on the tower first floor will have to cross the annex area to reach the bathroom. The garden around the tower promises hours of beauty and relaxation. We have an "al fresco" table under a pergola and terraces below with typical Mediterranean plants and herbs. Wifi available.
Why choosing it
Muìn a Véntu Tower is highly recommended to couples looking for romance or adult friends looking for an unusual place out of the crowd. Ideal location for wedding proposals and honeymoon!
Good to know
Even though it is still in the village of Vernazza, it is located uphill, at the beginning of the path to Corniglia, so reaching it might be difficult for people not in good shape, since the rising path is steep and uneven. Children under 6 not allowed, wheelchair inaccessible, pets not allowed, unsuitable for elderly or infirm. Consider there's only a bathroom on ground floor and furnishing is made by essential pieces of art created by the owner himself. Going up and down the tower floors is not easy having the tower just narrow ladders connecting the floors. We can arrange on request food shopping and delivery. Cinque Terre Riviera Plus:
1. complimentary welcome breakfast for your first morning in Vernazza
2. concierge office in Vernazza open from 10:30 as.m. to 1:30p-m. and from 2:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m from Mid March to Early November
History
Muìn a Véntu Tower is the one of the two existing towers in Vernazza, but the only one that has authentic ancient origins. It remains almost as it was in the past. It dates back to 1100 a.d. In medieval ages, when the village was under the Genoise Doria family domination, there where in the village three towers. One of them, close to the Town Hall, is just a ruin now. The second one is on the rocks by the sea, Castle area, and it belongs to the village Town Hall and is open to visitors. The third one, Muìn a Véntu, keeps the original architecture and stones. The previous owner added to it in the '50s an annex on ground floor. The tower was originally used as wind mill. The typical holes in the upper part of the tower used to convey wind that actioned the mill for grinding grains. In the '50s the XX century the tower passed from the pristine owner Amleto, a strange personage of the fisherman village, to the famous Italian drama director Aldo Trionfo (1921 - 1989). Trionfo, after restoring the tower, had, as guests, the most famous and unconventional Italian artists (directors, actors, painters, singers, composers,...). He created something like a bohémien court around the tower. Staying at Muìn a Véntu is living history with charm!
