Terrace house between S. Marco and Biennale

The district

The house is located in the Castello district, near Campo Bandiera e Moro (or della Bragora), a few steps from the so-called "Vivaldi church", and the San Zaccaria vaporetto stop. It is a few meters from the Riva degli Schiavoni, following which in about five minutes you can reach Piazza San Marco on one side, and the Arsenale and the Biennale Gardens on the other.

Nearby there are two supermarkets for shopping (in Calle dei Greci), and various shops.

The neighborhood is still alive and inhabited by Venetians, with bars and shops frequented by residents, much more than by tourists - which never fail in Venice.
Antonio Vivaldi was born in the adjacent Bandiera e Moro field (who knows maybe in the part of our building that overlooks it) and there is the church where he was baptized. In the Church of the Pietà, Vivaldi for many years held the position of violin master, then master of choir and concerts, dedicating himself to educating the daughters of Choro in music and bel canto.

The church of the Pietà overlooks the Riva degli Schiavoni, one of the most beautiful promenades in the world (where the Hotel Danieli is to be understood); from there in five minutes on foot you will be in San Marco square. Or in the opposite direction in ten minutes you will reach the Biennale or the Arsenale.

A tour in the surroundings

The closest vaporetto stop is San Zaccaria, get off and to the right (east), pass a single bridge and turn left after the Chiesa della Pietà. At the far right and you will arrive home - you can't miss the little bridge that crosses the street that leads to the terrace from the living room.
If you get lost, ask for Danieli.
If you want to take a relaxing walk out of the crowds, follow the Riva degli Schiavoni eastwards and walk to the gardens of San'Elena, where tourists rarely meet and the few taverns are full of people who live here.

Other things to highlight

There is no air conditioning, in July and August it can be a little warm, the old house built with thick walls is always cool enough and you always sleep well at night.
Obviously in winter the house is well heated.

History
Baroque building of the eighteenth century, with frescoed ceilings, original furniture and flooring.

A walkway (covered by a wisteria plant) crosses the Calle della Pietà and allows access to a large terrace with pergola, which overlooks a private garden.

The apartment covers approximately two hundred square meters and has two bedrooms.

The building to which it belongs belongs to our family for more than a century. We kept the furnishings as they were when the last truly Venetian great aunt lived there, adapting systems and bathrooms; since unfortunately none of the family lives in Venice anymore, we rent it, but only for short periods because we still love to come to this enchanting city.

The calle della Pietà 3629 building has been documented since the eighteenth century, as the baroque proportions of the windows reveal, but it was renovated in the nineteenth century, an era to which the neo-Gothic four-light windows in white Istrian stone on both sides date.

The original structure is that of the Venetian merchant house, with a large warehouse for goods on the ground floor (now converted into an entrance and laundry room) and a "noble floor" on the first floor, which is accessed by a staircase (there is no elevator ).

The furnishings date back to the renovation carried out just before 1904, with late 19th-century eclectic Viennese furniture - made to measure for this house - with some concessions to Art Nouveau (in the stained glass window dividing the main room / lounge in two) and the Art Deco, in whose style the master bedroom is fully furnished. The original furniture and flooring has been intentionally preserved by the family in all the rooms, except of course for the living room sofas, mattresses, kitchen equipment and appliances (refrigerator, washing machine, microwave oven, television), which they are modern. Heating is present; there is no air conditioning.
Some ceilings are frescoed with late nineteenth-century eclectic decorations, with landscapes, flowers and grotesques.

The large entrance hall now houses the dining table, which can be extended to accommodate up to a maximum of eight people, otherwise it is possible to eat on the marble table in the kitchen or, throughout the summer, under the pergola of the Terrace.

The apartment has two bedrooms, a kitchen, a hall, a sitting room, an entrance hall, a main bathroom (with bath tub), a service bathroom (with shower, remade fifteen years from scratch. fa) and a laundry room with washing machine.
The beds are four: a double bed (but with separate mattresses) in one room and two separate beds in the second bedroom. For emergencies, 2 other camp beds are available in a small room (very small and without windows).

A walkway (covered by a wisteria plant) crosses the Calle della Pietà and allows access to a large terrace with pergola, which overlooks a private garden, and can be used in the beautiful season for dining (it is equipped with table and "garden" chairs, and light for the night, however it is recommended not to make noise, especially after ten in the evening, so as not to disturb the neighbors).

Guest access

The whole house is accessible, as well as the terrace which can be accessed by crossing a bridge over the narrow Calle della Pietà.
The terrace overlooks a small hidden garden, always owned by us, but not accessible because it is rented together with the property below.
The terrace is nestled in the middle of other houses, as often in Venice you are close to other families and people are very friendly and welcoming, but please respect their rest and intimacy and do not make noise on the terrace.

Interaction with guests

I live in Milan, my cousins and cousins help me with the rent, but on the spot we have a trusted person who has maintained the house for many years and who will welcome you and help you with any problem.

My Last VRBO Rental
This was a VERY poor experience, for which I hold VRBO largely responsible. This property was full of charming, if not very functional, 19th century furniture that photographed well but hid the fact that the property was also 19th century and in desperate need of a complete renovation to address both convenience and safety issues. VRBO's website presentation, whether deliberately or through incompetence, hid that fact. For example, the kitchen was two steps up from the main apartment, the dishwasher (which didn't work) was two steps up from the kitchen, and the kitchen sink was two steps up from the dishwasher, all in all a very awkward and unsafe arrangement. The main bath had no shower, that feature was in a separate bathroom a long flight of stairs down from the main apartment, the lighting was simultaneously harsh and yet the place was gloomy. The bedding had a distinct "thrift store" quality and the apartment's closets and cupboards were full of junk. The place desperately needs a top to bottom clearing out, cleaning and serious renovation. The owner was very nice but lives in a different city and her local representative was useless, e.g., I had to download the users manual for the clothes dryer to figure out why it wasn't working and fix it.

A dream!
We had an unforgettable experience in this gorgeous villa. Luna provided delicious espresso that we enjoyed every morning. It couldn't be in a better location! Thank you Luna for sharing your magnificent home. It made our trip to Venice even more magical.

18th Century Dwelling
House built in 1700 clearly showed it's age. Bedroom accommodation for 5 people were satisfactory once we got the air conditioning situation settled. It was 100 degrees F in Venice. The kitchen situation was quite bizarre. The kitchen sink was almost inaccessible and the primary bathroom was unsafe; a handheld shower and no curtain could have led to a dangerous fall. All in all it provided a roof over our heads and the location was quiet and short walk to St Mark's Square.

Disappointed
Photos show OLD family antiques in OLD apt…. But the romance stops there! The place was extremely dusty/dirty. We all needed decongestants when we left! Linens were old and thin. The main bath was nauseating-the floor was ugly and nasty. Needs to be updated/ replaced! We didn’t use it! The 2nd bath w the sm shower is located inconveniently down a flt of stairs near the front door. We are mid 70’s and using this bath was difficult - especially during the night! The kitchen is awful because to use the sink - you must CLIMB steep narrow steps in a “cubby” area! We were shocked! There’s a patio out the back - but it too was dirty - needed a good sweeping, unnecessary items discarded, pot plants tended. The weather was nice - so we did sit around the table w wine/snacks but only because the tables inside were not inviting - again - the place was sooooo dusty. We also rolled up the old rugs - we tripped on the curled edges/ corners - very dangerous! Having been to Venice before we recognized the location was pretty good. The owner admits to NOT LIVING in Venice and so communication was limited. The owner should also have this interesting old apt decluttered of LOTS OF OLD STUFF - ugly plastic flowers everywhere, old chotskies, stinky stacks of blankets, near empty cleaning bottles, old soap bars …. AND PROVIDE AMPLE TOILET TISSUE! We ran out! This was the most expensive VRBO we ever rented and the most frustrating and disappointing!

Quiet historic home for Carnevale
Luna was a great owner who was very communicative with me with any questions or requests I had. The home is truly gorgeous and if you're coming for Carnevale, it will give you the full experience. We wanted a quiet place to stay with our friends after hitting up big parties elsewhere. There's lots of good food and great pastries and coffee right across the square. I would definitely stay here again.

Family holiday
Great location and accommodations were great for 4 people, the contact person was absent, and the draping cobwebs left a bit of question, but if one wants to feel the presence of last century Venice , the intimate touch of the former owner, it was charming……… a perfect holiday and would recommend the water taxi to arrive and depart

We felt like locals in our own fabulous apartment in Venice!!!
I booked this incredible historic apartment in August for our stay in October and we couldn't have loved it more! It is so charming and comfortable and met all of our needs while in Venice for a week. We loved the location - close enough to everything but on a quiet "street" with a coffee shop on the next corner and several good restaurants a block or so away. The terrace connected to the apartment via a glass block walkway that went over our "street" was so fabulous and we had a glass of wine out there each afternoon. Our friends who live in the UK met us in Venice and spent the first 5 days with us. We each had a huge bedroom with antique twin beds that were put together to make kings for each of us. There is a precious kitchen that is equipped with everything that you could need - although we didn't cook, just made coffee each morning and had snacks in the afternoon. There were a couple of bakeries a block away where we picked up fresh croissants and rolls each morning and a small "grocery" where we bought cheese, crackers, milk, juice, etc. for our stay. We LOVED every minute of our time there and can't wait to go back!!! Luna, the property manager, was fabulous to work with and her "house manager" was at our beck and call if we needed him but we never had to call him except to tell him we were leaving some nice wine and a few things in the refrigerator!
