From the moment we arrived we felt that this was going to be a good week. Cathy met us and directed us to the property and said after we had settled in she would call later, which she did. We knew immediately that we would feel at home because she originally was from the North of England as we were. What can I say, the Welcome Pack was very generous, never in our travels have we received one like this before. During the week she was there when needed but not obtrusive, we had some lovely chats with her, felt we had known her for years, the eggs from the hens were the best we have tasted. The property was very nice and clean, lovely bedding etc and we just loved the walk-in shower. The pool was an added bonus but unfortunately because it was cold at night the water never got up to the temperature during the day that would invite you to go in. Lovely to sit outside though and admire the beautiful gardens and go down at night to see the deer in the fields below the gite.We visited St Jean de Cole, a must, Brantome, very nice but full of English and we thought very over--rated not sure we would go there again. Perigoux is a must, lovely place. Go to the Tourist Office, the young man we spoke to very knowledgeable and spoke perfect English, gave us a map and we did a walk around the old parts, very interesting. Didn't want to leave the gite. We would love to return to Vaunac next year but I fear that Cathy is well booked up already, that's a shame, but we will return soon hopefully.
