"Chalet-style hotel right next to a shopping centre. Good for shopping (obviously) and dining. Easy check-in and parking. Clean, bright room with a balcony. Functional and clean bathroom with a good shower. Breakfast was plentiful and very fresh. We would definitely stay again. "

"We booked this property for a couple of nights as we were doing a tour around the area and wanted to change from a hotel accommodation to an apartment to be able to cook for us. The location is very quiet and easy to find in a residential area next to the property owner who was in when we arrived. The property is all on one floor above a garage. However it is really not good enough to have missing information prior to making the booking as we would not have selected this place. We only had a comment at the bottom of the email that said: "Additional fees Please contact the property manager for information on any additional fees." The total price of an accommodation always includes bed linen, towels and cleaning at the end of the stay as standard otherwise what am I paying for? So it was a surprise to receive a message from the owner after we had booked and paid, when the booking was not refundable, to be asked to pay 15 Euros for bed linen for each person and 150 Euros if we wanted to have the place cleaned after our stay unless we wanted to clean it ourselves. I rate the communication poor for this reason, not sure if the issue is with Expedia that needs to make clear there will be extra charges and exactly what they are, or the owner that needs to add that for people to know in advance. "

"Absolutely enjoyed 10 days on this historic property! The property is adjacent to the fortress and the hotel is a converted Soldiers barracks. A sense of tranquility and peacefulness surrounds you when you walk around the property. The property is well maintained and oversees the city of Halden. The staff made my family feel like home. The staff were professional and kind; they made us feel welcomed. The staff checked on our family when we were off the property for over 24 hours to ensure we were ok and safe. The daily breakfast buffet was delicious with an array of local, organic, cold and hot items. The dining area is clean and have the best lasagna on their dinner menu. We plan to return to Norway and plan to return to the Fredriksten! "
