Dezie Manor Grange and Gardens near Sarlat la Caneda

The Dezie Manor Grange has been lovingly restored with a high degree of attention to detail and striving to respect local traditions, crafts and materials all while adding the comfort and necessities you would come to expect of a modern house: walk in marble finished showers, fully fitted kitchen, heated pool and covered terrace next to the pool, a large garden perfectly kept by your gardener.

The Grange really is grand, airy and spacious, with exceptional open plan living areas featuring lovely stone features and openings. The house is divided in two main wings: south and east. The main living area, the south wing, is L shaped; where the kitchen and dinning area have a line of sight and the living room and dinning are have another line of sight. The east wing is where you will find the three en-suite bedrooms. Adjacent to the house and fully facing south is the heated pool, surrounded by a large travertine tiled terrace enclosed by beautiful lime stone walls. To the side of the pool is a beautiful authentic covered area that welcomes three lounge beds and the outside dinning table.

The living room is equipped with a large 4k tv with an Apple TV.

The Grange is part of the Dezie Manor estate and has no vis-avis with the other two villas that are on the property. Each house has total privacy.

Lovely quiet retreat in the countryside
The Dezie Cottage was an attractive and spacious property in beautiful rural countryside but within easy reach of amenities such as supermarkets, villages and restaurants. Our host, Grant Neale, was very helpful. The property and swimming pool were clean, although we did have an initial problem with the pool cover not opening but Grant and his wife, Kiki, sorted it out quickly. My only criticism is that we would have liked a better range of cooking pans. There weren't enough smaller saucepans with lids and not all the gas hobs were working. The rest of the kitchen was very good. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and would recommend the Cottage to others.

Autumn Heat
We stayed at the Grange of the three Dezie Manor properties and had a brilliant two weeks. It’s a lovely peaceful setting, perfect if you want to relax and unwind by the lovely pool or the pretty outdoor area. It was hotter than normal for September so the shady areas were needed but at the same time the trees were changing colour and leaves starting to fall which felt very autumnal. Grant was very helpful and friendly and we would definitely love to return. There is plenty to do nearby, we liked Le Bugue & Limieul, Marqueyssac Gardens and Bergerac all within 30 to 40 minutes drive, things do start to shut earlier or open less days in September though so plan ahead before going. Best meal we had was the tasting menu at Dix in Sainte Alvere, bit pricy but lovely place. All in all a fantastic holiday. Sarah & David

One of the best villas we have stayed at over many years of holidaying in France. Clean, well equipped, private and very comfortable. Many thanks to Grant for making us feel relaxed and at home in the sun.

Excellent Gite in a beautiful part of France
Having booked this Gite in September 2019 we finally got there in 2022 thanks to Grant pushing our booking forward twice. The facilities are great for 8 adults we had an amazing family holiday. Lots to do in the area for all ages. The pool is lovely and Grant was very helpful. Although there are 3 Gites together you really wouldn’t know as they are all very private. A fantastic find in a beautiful part of France.

The Cottage
What a beautiful house and pool! We had a wonderful 7 night stay, and Grant was extremely helpful - booking canoeing and karting for us in advance. He was always on hand if needed. The house was immaculate and extremely well stocked with cutlery, glasses etc. The swimming pool was lovely as was the outdoor space. We never actually used the inside dining area as we were outside every evening! If I was to say one negative, it’s the address.. not easy to find on sat nav…. Our friends ended up in the middle of a field! we only found it as we’d checked it on street view on Google, so we knew what to look for. After an extremely long journey and in the dark, it can be quite daunting . That aside, I would 100% recommend this property and would love to come back again one day. Thank you

Beautifully renovated rustic French farmhouse and barns. Located in a beautiful rural environment, but just a short drive to the local shops. The property was very clean and well presented with everything you could possibly need. Communication to and from the owner both before and during our stay was excellent. If you are looking for peace and tranquillity then this place is a must. All in all a fabulous weeks holiday, many thanks!

Absolutely amazing!
We just spent a week at the Grange with our two boys of 5 and 8. It is truly a perfect holiday getaway in every sense! The host, Grant, is one of the friendliest people you can imagine. Super attentive if needed but very mindful of your own privacy. The house is better that the pictures- super finish and everything you could wish for- the outdoor spaces (where we spent 90% of the time ) are dreamy. Completely private and extremely quiet and tranquil. The area is great- nice walks just outside and perfect for a morning jog. Lots of beautiful villages a short drive away with everything you could wish for. Best holiday and we will definitely be back!

superb location for quiet and peaceful holidays
Second visit for us but this time were stayed in the Cottage instead of the Grange. Personal preference but just as good if not better. Weather was amazing so we got the use of the pool every day and as this was our second trip we were able to return to those activities which we had experienced the first time. Visits to the local markets, canoeing on the Vezere, horse riding at the local stable – Franval – and excellent food at the Au bon Coueil in Lemeuil. A new discovery this year was star gazing from the deckchairs in our courtyard. Due to very little light pollution the night skies are amazing. Regretfully we won’t be returning in 2019 but have already booked the cottage again for 2020. Absolutely amazing holiday!

Perfect house and location - didn't want to leave!
The cottage is beautiful, good balance between being well decorated with lovely vintage items and yet comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped too with pans big enough to cater for the 7 of us. The terrace being under cover meant we ate outside every day, even tho weather was changeable. Special mention for the ping pong table which was a very popular addition! We found the location was excellent as the local town, Vergt, was bigger than expected with 3 boulangeries and a decent size supermarket and it was also reasonable distances (about 40 mins) to visit Sarlat, Domme, La Roque etc. Grant was very attentive when we had queries and nothing was too much trouble. Only down side to the holiday was we had only booked 7 days!! We'll be back.......

Relax - Family - Wine - Sun
First of all a big thank you to Kiki and Grant. They were the perfect hosts and nothing was too much trouble. Originally I had booked to stay for two weeks in July 2016 but unfortunately my wife died two months earlier in May and it didn't feel right at the time to go without her. Grant and Kiki were very understanding and several months later I booked the Cottage during half term in May 2017. There was seven of us. My daughter Emily and her friend (aged 12/13), my parents and my in-laws. It was to be a celebration and an opportunity to spend some quality time together. Well to start off the pictures can never do the scenery justice. The setting for the three houses was and is just perfect. If it's peace and tranquillity you desire this is the place to come. The cottage provided us with every facility we needed. I have to admit we spent very little time inside as the weather was excellent and the outdoor dining and pool area was just perfect. I could write so much more but I suppose the biggest recommendation I can give is that we all intend to visit again in 2018.

Beautiful villa, wonderful setting
On arrival we were instantly wowed by the incredible finish of the villa, there is everything you will need for a home from home stay but with lots of added extras. The courtyard is well kept and there is plenty of room for several cars. The pool area is lovely with lots of sun-beds and shady places to relax and also eat Al fresco. Unfortunately it rained for a few days of our stay but we still made use of the covered areas despite this. The Hot Tub was out of use when we were there which was disappointing but Grant tried his best to source a part to try to fix it. Unlike a lot of French villas that we have stayed in previously the home furnishings were very comfortable and it was a bonus to have English TV as the Euros started on the first night of our stay. The bedrooms and bathrooms were all well-fitted and comfortable with lots of nice rustic touches that were very homely. Nearby you will find some little towns that have various shops, bars, restaurants and also supermarkets so you are never far from supplies but will need a car to reach them. We have to mentioned the host Grant who was extremely hospitable and helpful during our stay but never intrusive. Starting with recommending a local restaurant (Chez Julien - well worth a visit!). He also helped us one night when our hire car encountered a puncture on the way to dinner. He came out and took us to the restaurant and waited for the recovery vehicle on our behalf and then picked us up from the restaurant afterwards - definitely above and beyond anything we could have wished for and made sure our last night wasn't a disaster! The hosts' adorable dog Dougie is very friendly and comes to say hello throughout the day without being a nuisance, we were sad to say goodbye to him and La Vieille Dezie Cottage. Despite the disappointing weather we had a lovely stay and hope to return in the near future.

Our little bit of rural heaven!
Our family holiday this summer was hugely enhanced by our stay at La Vielle Dezie. The Cottage provided plenty of living space and accommodation for family, friends and the dog! Both Kiki and Grant were the perfect hosts - nothing was too much trouble and with their infectious sense of humour we had a good deal of fun! The Cottage was just perfect for our stay, with linens and well equipped kitchen. We loved Grant's recommendation of Chez Julien in the nearby village! We will remember our little bit of rural heaven fondly! Thank you both again - jusqu'a la prochaine fois que nous rencontrons!

What a wonderful place!!
I am writing this review on the last day of our stay and I am very hesitant about doing so…..This place is so great that we want to keep it to ourselves! Immediately upon arriving (finding it was a breeze through the GPS coordinates supplied) we had a ‘wow! impression’. The place is totally secluded amidst a beautiful garden. Grant and his wife Kiki have done a magnificent job in renovating this old building. The villa is extremely comfortable with spacious rooms and best of all a large covered terrace overlooking the gardens. But at the same time it also offers the charm of its ancient history. The surrounding area is just beautiful. The Dordogne area gets a lot of visitors but being in and around Cendrieux this is almost hard to believe. Yet there are many sights and activities in the region. Though we mostly stuck to exploring some excellent restaurants….. Our children loved the pool and played table football for hours every day. Our youngest enjoyed the pony rides together with Kiki. To sum it up, we loved everything about La Vieille Dezie! But maybe the best was the superb hospitality offered by Grant and Kiki. They really went out of their way to make our stay a memorable one. And memorable it was. We will definitely return!

Perfect Relaxing Stay in Rural France
We booked The Dezie cottage for two weeks with my husband, 3 year old son and mother and father. We had an early flight and Grant let us drop off our suitcases way before the check-in time, so we could go and explore the area. When we arrived we were just amazed how beautiful and perfect this place was. We have been all over the world, and stayed in many a 5* accommodation, plenty of which fell short of our expectations. The Cottage at Dezie exceeded our expectations. First, let me offer some advice, on completion of the booking, Grant supplies the GPS co-ordinates, you will need them, I'm not sure that you could find Dezie without them, but that is just the first win! The place is perfectly secluded, in fact from the North the lane is unmade, so the route from the South (Vergt-Salon) is preferable, about a mile up the lane is a sign for The Cottage, you turn in to a gravel drive to the property and your holiday begins for real. The Cottage itself has three bedrooms (two upstairs and a separate en-suite downstairs) and there is a separate converted barn with a fourth stunning en-suite bedroom. The details could describe this better, there was more accommodation than we thought and we were able to sleep completely away from the parents. Outside is just what you need for a stay in the warm climates of Southern France in June/July. The pool temperature is lovely (c.30degrees) and there is plenty of space to sunbathe during the day and relax with a glass of Bergerac blanc in the evening. The covered area provides plenty of shade for those wishing to/required to avoid the sun, this was vital in the second week of our stay as it was often in the thirties. The hot-tub wasn't working, but really wasn't necessary for us either. There is plenty to do in the area, though a car is essential, just take in the relaxing atmosphere and do as much (or as little) as you want! The service provided was first class, Grant was responsive when we had minor issues and I would have no hesitation in recommending Dezie (though privately I hope it remains our secret!)

Pictures do not do this place justice
The pictures you see here do not do justice to how wonderful this place is! Myself and the family - 6 adults - spent a fantastic week here this July (2015) and could not find fault. The location is incredible, secluded enough to find peace and quiet but only 10mins drive from town and a supermarket. The buildings are beautiful and rustic - whilst being fully kitted out for ease and comfort and Grant, the owner, could not have been more accommodating and helpful. We had rental car issues the day we arrived and Grant not only took us shopping to fill our kitchen while we were immobile - he acted as translator and spoke with the garage to help sort out the problem and then drove us in to town when the car was ready to pick up. Wouldn't change a thing about this trip. (I even made a daft video of our stay http://bit.ly/1EjnJgE)

A wonderful holiday home in the countryside
We spent a wonderful seven weeks at La Vieille Dezie. It was incredible to stay in buildings constructed before the French Revolution and yet equipped with all the modern conveniences of home, including a large television with a wide array of channels and movies available. The setting is quiet and pastoral, complete with cuckoos, nightingales, horses and rabbits. And on top of all this, La Vieille Dezie is situated close to many magnificent attractions - amazing medieval villages and castles, great restaurants, and stunning prehistoric sites with 17,000-year-old paintings and etchings that blow your mind. The proprietors, Grant and Kiki, are the kind of people one would want as neighbours and friends, and their helpfulness and friendliness added immeasurably to our enjoyment. Several relatives and friends who stayed with us were likewise extremely pleased by the accommodations, the bucolic surroundings and the proprietors. Furniture and rooms all in excellent condition; everything spotlessly clean. Excellent kitchen and bathroom facilities. Pool and hot tub! Simply said, La Vieille Dezie is a wonderful place to stay, and we recommend it highly, without reservation.

A stunning find in a stunning country location
You know when you see property photos in brochures and on line and you always think they are photoshopped and they usually are? Not this one. What you see in the photos is what you get....stunning. We stayed in the The Cottage, one of the three properties on the site. Each has its own swimming pool so if you are a bit shy about showing your bits, don't worry only you and your housemates will see you. Grant and Kiki look after their guests. They are always around if you need them. From the fresh bread on that first morning to welcome you to inviting you to use some of the veg from the patch if its in season. We took our dogs, they loved the countryside and the great long walks through the woods right outside the property. Nearest town is Vergt, about 7 Kilometers away where there is a great market and supermarket and if you have your dogs with you, a vets should you need them. We enjoyed our time so much we booked again straight away. We cannot wait until September. It will soon be here and we can head south again.
