As this was our first trip to Bali, we booked the Bembengan Ubud Cottages by chance for one week out of our two week stay in case we decided to move. It turns our our worry wasn’t necessary as we’re so happy we booked here!
It was a bit tricky to find the hotel at first as Google Maps places the hotel on Jl Jembawan instead of the correct street Jl Sukma Kesuma, but some lovely locals happily pointed us in the right direction! Down a long (well lit) alleyway, the hotel overlooks a stunning ravine and creek featuring tall bamboo and lush trees. It is also surprisingly peaceful and quiet for being located in downtown Ubud.
Check-in was a breeze as we only had to fill in a short document and, from the start, the staff were friendly and accommodating (and speak excellent English!). Our room faced the ravine and, with our own private balcony, we felt like we were high up in the trees; thankfully the rooms are high enough to avoid the inevitable mosquito hoards by the creek.
The rooms are simple but well kept and clean, featuring a large wardrobe with lockable doors, air-conditioning, and a spacious bar fridge. The bathrooms, as noted by a few other reviews, are a bit older but are kept in a good working condition and the shower runs both hot and cold. Room service is offered every day and breakfast in the mornings (8am – 10am) is fresh and tasty.
We ended up booking our second week here as we've loved our stay and, at less than $200AUD, we think it's a steal!
