Northwoods Hangout | Unique Tahoe Home

Have a great getaway by staying at Northwoods Hangout in the Tahoe Donner neighborhood. Enjoy the prime location, within walking distance to the Tahoe Donner Downhill ski resort, and only a short drive away from the Tahoe Donner Golf Course and Donner Lake. Take a 25 minute drive to either Boreal Mountain Resort or the Northstar California Resort.

The cozy living room has comfortable seating gathered around a wood stove fireplace and flat screen TV. A Roku (streaming services such as Netflix and Hulu) and wifi are available for family entertainment. The kitchen sports immaculate wooden countertops, stainless steel appliances, and smaller appliances such as a coffee maker, microwave, and toaster. When you are ready to sit down for a home cooked meal, the dining table has seating for 6.

Bedroom 1: Queen bed
Bedroom 2: Queen and Twin bed
Loft: Sofa sleeper and 2 Twin beds
The TV's in the bedroom are not hooked up to any streaming services.

The garage is not available for use. During the winter, plywood is added to cover the downstairs living room windows and the dining room sliding glass doors to prevent snow from breaking the windows. It can be dark/cave like during the winter due to the plywood covering windows/doors, but the backyard can still be accessed by walking around the home.

This home comes with 2 passes to the Tahoe Donner Trout Creek Recreation Center offering access to a swimming pool, tennis court, and golf course. The outdoor pool is closed for the winter but the lap pool and hot tub are open year round. Each pass allows 4 guests entry, although there is an additional daily guest fee at the time of entry at the Rec Center.

*We highly suggest purchasing Travel Insurance during the winter season when weather and road conditions can be unpredictable. Please check the Division of Traffic websites and travel at your own risk. Without the purchase of Travel Insurance, your Vacation Home Rental Reservation cannot be canceled due to poor weather conditions.*

This property includes 2 guest passes that allow guests to access the Tahoe Donner Association, which offers communal swimming pools, hot tubs, and a sauna; private beach (summers only), and other exclusive amenities. Amenities vary by season and rates are set by Tahoe Donner Association (not included in your reservation). Each pass can accommodate up to 4 people for entry (8 guests total). More information can be found on the Tahoe Donner website.

Trip Cancelled
We did not stay at this property, but I had to pick a star in order to submit a review... We had to cancel our trip due to a severe winter storm in the area. Grand Welcome was not helpful, particularly communicative, or responsive about this. They did not respond to my inquiry about the state of the roads and property due to the storm. When I let them know that we would be cancelling, they directed me to file a claim through the insurance that I purchased and offered no other information or help with the process. I understand that the storms have been impacting the community greatly, but I would have appreciated more warning, information, responsiveness, and support, as we also were very disappointed to cancel our family vacation due to the storm.

Downstairs toilet was running constantly, might want to check so water bill doesn’t go up. Otherwise, great spot for our family!

Good location, some issues
First, lets start with the good. The property is surrounded by trees and is in a nice quiet neighborhood. Now the bad: All the blinds are old and most don't work so forget opening window blinds. There was a gigantic spider in the kitchen sink which we tried to drown with force of water. However the invincible spider kept coming back every few hours in the sink. Second issue: We turned on the washer with clothes n jackets, But to our horror, the washer leaked a huge pool of water in the bathroom! We had not gotten any spare jackets!! So at 11 in the night, I had to remove all wet clothes from washer , hand-wash them all and then put in dryer. To make bathroom usable again, we had to clean up the huge water flooding as well. It was pointless to ask owner of house at late night to send someone to help so we handled it ourselves by hand washing our load. Completely ruined our stay. There are lots of well maintained properties in the area. I would avoid this one. I also asked owner for tiny compensation for all the hassle we had to go through but received no response.

Cozy but functional
Even if the place is located right off a major road it is far enough to be a quiet neighborhood. Lots of backyard space.

An okay stay
The property was cute very spacious. Did not have fully stocked toilet paper and paper towels was told we needed to buy more if we needed only one garbage bag for a group of 6 people for 2 nights stay garbage from previous guests were stacked in the garage so was kinda stinky when went in there. Location was nice and lots of snow in the front for the kids to play in the drive way is VERY narrow which wasn't a big deal but there are a BUNCH OF LONG stick sticking out ir the ground (snow) that is hanging iver the drive way so we were not able got get in and out of our cars on that side scratched the aod of my truck because we got there after dark because check in is at 4pm and wouldn't let us check in a little early and we drove 3 hours to get there . Very nice house though. Love the layout

Awesome mountain getaway
Great location, picturesque. As others have said, the snow piled up on one side but gone is the plywood. They used a metal lattice which let more light in. We loved the cozy living room, and enjoyed the location close to skiing at Donner and activities as the X country/snowshoe center, plus snow play/tubing and easy access from I-80.

Nice for the price
The property is conveniently located and has a flat easy-access driveway when there's snow. The house has charming architecture and the furniture is in good condition. Lots of windows and views. Note that the ground floor levels are *not* currently boarded up in winter; instead they are protected from the snow with metal grates that don't obstruct the view. Downsides: toilets are small and don't flush reliably; no soap or shampoo in the showers; no firewood; we nearly ran out of toilet paper.

Great Get-a-Away Space
A great little place for relaxing. Nice and quiet neighborhood. The only downfall is that when you are backing out, you are backing out into on-coming traffic both ways.

Great Family Getaway
We went with our immediate family and my brother and his son. The kids LOVED it. They in the snow ALL day. Close to Tahoe Donner ski resort and a local well organized, COvid-safe sled park was close by. Near Downtown Truckee, would love to visit again.

Great location for cross country and snow shoeing. Some issues...
We arrived after a big snow storm, all roads and driveway plowed. The windows in the living room and dining room were boarded up due to snow accumulation. Totally understandable that the back patio is not cleared of snow in the winter, but since the main photo of the property is of the lovely big windows in the living area, we think that should be disclosed. It made it dark inside, and we were there to see the snow which can only be seen by going upstairs. Also, many of the cell blinds were broken, so letting natural light in was a real issue. In addition to that, the principle burner on the electric stove only has one setting, which is high, so watch out when cooking. t There was a huge accumulation of snow over the front porch which we thought looked dangerous, and we told a property manager who had stopped by our first day and she agreed. Day 3, we heard a huge crash, and it was the snow and ice that had fallen, just as we had predicted. Luckily no one was hurt. We notified the management company of all of this upon our return, and have not received an answer back as of yet.

Broken Stove Burned Everything
Overall this place is great, except the stove needs to be replaced. The burners turn on only to very hot and as a result burns the pans and food, there is no turning it down except off. Please replace. Otherwise would totally stay again, we loved this place (except the stove).

Excellent retreat in a peaceful setting
Gazing out at the high Sierra forest out back gives us all great comfort in these troubled times. The house is very comfortable and welcoming, and very Tahoe-Donner in the best way. Good kitchen, big deck, ample room. Even ping pong! Could update the toilets, but if that's all I've got, it's a pretty great place, especially for the price. Appreciate access to the TD amenities, even if we didn't use them much this time. Eat at the Lodge - it's beautiful and delicious!

Cute place, spotless clean!
We are a family with 5 children. This home was perfect for our week in Tahoe! Arrived in the middle of a snow storm to find the heat was turned on for us, so thoughtful! Pleasantly surprised to find a pingpong table in the garage and some fun games. House was well supplied and had great quality linens and kitchen supply. We were puzzled to find there was a few tiny basics missing such as a spatula for eggs, or the dustpan for the broom, but we easily made do. Also, the upstairs TVs were almost useless as one wasnt connected to anything, and the other required us to create a new roku account in order to use. A DVD player at least connected to one would have been nice for kiddos upstairs. We loved the clean and thick carpets, but werent so thrilled with the extremely firm mattresses. They were clean but very firm, more so than we preferred. Overall- we will most likely be back!

The property was good there was just a few problems
We were a family of 8 people. Which we all were able to fit comfortably in the house. The house was great and we had a good time but the problem was that when you showered and wanted a warm shower there was only enough for one person. The rest of us had to shower with cold water which it was very hard to do so since we had children. Apparently they didn’t have a heater that would save water and continue to do so throughout the day so everyone but one person got a warm shower. Another issue was that being that big of a family we need it extra supplies, such as, toilet paper, napkins and extra shampoos. We had to go buy extra toilet paper and napkins because there was not extras only 2 and the ones on the bathrooms and those were almost gone. Overall the place was good. We were close to the activities that we wanted to do. The house provided us with coffee, cooking essentials and comfortable stay.

Clean beautiful remodelled home with new appliances
The home was beautiful and clean as promised. It's on a main road with neighbors around. I have given 4 stars because of 2 things, first the home is all updated but they left the 2 toilets which needs immediate update, old small round toilets with flush issues. Rentlever managing company was prompt to send a guy for fixing but the old toilet was not able to hold water in the flush tank and we had to hold the lever in the tank each time we flushed. 2nd thing, the owner promised ping pong as amenity and locked it in the garage. Otherwise everything else was neat and well maintained.
