I would love to give this place 5 stars, but the owner can be temperamental. He assumed one clearly frazzled guest was trying to get a free stay by asking about her bed before check in (she booked via Hostel World) and he involved me in the situation, but she paid no problem after getting back from the store. A day or so later, another guest heard him yelling at a man from Belarus who fell asleep on the couch all night (there is a sign that says not to do this, but the man spoke barely any English at all—no doubt he didn’t know the rule). Finally, he criticized and intimidated one of my roommates for a misunderstanding regarding laundry, which really scared her. Additionally, he made her bed every single day as if he were preparing for a new guest, but never touched mine (I stayed 6 nights). One day, her stuff was also moved, a sweater missing, and her backpack zipped shut when she got back to the house after he cleaned. I believe he also tossed or moved something of mine from the kitchen in a quick cleaning, but I asked him about it and got it back.
Overall, even though he was always nice to me, I didn’t like how he treated several of the guests. It shouldn’t be acceptable to mistreat guests who are paying you and also often just very confused travelers with all good intentions. This is still a very nice, convenient house and you’ll meet great people. Ultimately, I still recommend it for its quality to price ratio, but I can’t ignore the owner’s behavior.
