La Bolina-unique romantic holiday experience, private infinity pool, huge views

Description: Built designed & decorated by a sculptor & painter, 'la Bolina' is a unique, romantic holiday experience. It is a semidetached house that has been carefully designed by the same owner to maximise privacy to both properties.
Every detail of the house has been treated as art, from the polished concrete, wood & pebble inlaid floors to the hand furbished stainless steel & glass shower. Much of the furniture & all of the sculpture & painting is made by the artists. The house is situated in the foothills of the Almijara mountains that form part of the Sierra Nevada range. It looks across the olive groves & vineyards to Frigiliana a whitewashed mountain village & Nerja on the Mediterranean coast. Malaga airport is less than an hour away, & the city of Granada is only 100 km from Nerja. There is an unusually shaped black infinity pool that takes in the 360º breath-taking views. A stone barbecue overlooks the private swimming pool & the ever changing outdoor contemporary sculpture.

For those guests interested in sharing their holiday experience with friends or family, the neighbouring house is "el Morusco" property 6725879.

Situation: la Bolina' sits in the steep foothills of the Almijara mountain nature reserve & between three villages, Torrox, Frigiliana & Nerja. The roads are windy & narrow, with magnificent views of both mountains & sea. Granada, offering the Alhambra Moorish Palace & the Sierra Nevada ski resort is an hour & a half drive away. Cordoba & Seville two hours. We are also close enough to Morocco to be able to spend a day in Tangiers.

Frigiliana: Frigiliana is a beautiful whitewashed mountain village 6 km. from the coastal town Nerja. The old town dates back to the Phoenicians, the narrow cobbled streets wind between white terraced Moorish houses. The village sits on the edge of a mountain reserve that boasts many wonderful walks. Both towns offer numerous restaurants, bars & other entertainments.

Winter: From October through April there is always a possibility of rain, but now the chance of it is so remote, that we have come to welcome it when it does. It is a perfect time of year for those who enjoy the mountains, walking or exploring the surrounding towns & cities. Granada’s Alhambra, Seville & Cordoba loose the unbearable heat of summer & you have the tourist areas basically to your selves. Christmas & New Year are normally sunny & all of the restaurants are open, although most work with reservation on the festive nights. The Spanish celebrate New Year on the street, it begins with spectacular firework displays in every city, town & village & festivity continues well into the next morning. Spring here begins in February with the almond blossom & yellow clover that line the roads. It’s a good time to visit the little villages around our area & in the Alpujarra mountains south of Granada. If you are into skiing, the Sierra Nevada is famous for its slopes & is less than 2 hours away.

A magical week in the mountains
My husband and I spent a week at la Bolina in early September. It was wonderful - the house is well-kept, quirky, comfortable and equipped with everything we needed for our stay. The art in and around the house is incredible and we loved 'discovering' new pieces each day during our stay (I think I came home with about 100 photos just of the art)! The directions to the house were absolutely vital in helping our journey in the hire car from Malaga airport and it's no joke to say we'd have been hopelessly lost without them - in fact, we DID get hopelessly lost one day out and about coming home from Frigiliana, but that's entirely on us! Rob, Maggie & Timsam were always on hand if we needed anything and are fantastic hosts. The area around la Bolina is beautiful, peaceful and interesting: we visited Frigiliana, Nerja and Acebuchal during our stay, as well as enjoying time just cooking and relaxing at the house. The week went all-too quickly and we'll definitely be back!

So beautiful and peaceful.
The last 12 months for us has been terrible culminating in the loss of two parents passing within 2 weeks of each other. This place was just what we needed to rest and relax, take in the views and the total tranquility of the place. Having the beautiful pool on hot days was perfect. Seriously the photos would never do it justice and in reality the views are stunning. The drive up to the property is challenging but if you take your time and drive carefully it’s very achievable even in a small Fiat 500😊. The personal art of the talented owner’s throughout the property and gardens was really special and made the feel even more luxurious. Communication with the owners was great and they were on hand although we didn’t need anything. In summary a stunning place and would highly recommend.

Just what the doctor ordered. Peace quiet, total tranquility and a great pool to boot. The views were spectacular always changing as the sun moved over the 24hours. Sunset on the mountains was impressive. The host struck a real healthy balance of care and attention, pool maintenance, clean bedding for week 2, without being ever present,, lovely balance we thought. Excellent Villa and location

Absolutely incredible
Got to be the most stunning Villa I have ever stayed in , views are even better when there couldn’t stop looking! Comfy bed and nice shower, perfect for a little getaway from it all. Couple of things to know before going though, don’t leave anything on the side ants will find it and get in so make sure everything in the fridge! But once you know this there’s no problem with them 🙃 also don’t leave you bin bags outside as there’s a fox that will tear them up for you to clean in the morning. Wish we knew this before going but nevertheless would highly recommend to anyone! Thanks for an amazing stay!

Worth the wait!
Initially booked pre- pandemic and moved twice, our stay at La Bolina was definitely worth the wait. The accommodation was spotless and beautifully furnished, and had everything we needed for a short stay. The relaxing, peaceful environment and the perfect weather made for a very memorable break…. We shall definitely return.

Honeymoon week
my wife and I arrived very late in the evening having travelled from Northern Ireland and this wasn't a problem thanks to the lovely hosts. It would have been difficult to locate in the dark if it wasn't for the very helpful photographic arrival instructions. The week was incredible with such a breathtaking view every day we hardly wanted to leave!! When we did make a special effort to go out there were excellent activities nearby, lots of hiking (I recommend the rio chillar) and snorkeling not even mentioning the festival over in nearby village Frigiliana ( we had an excellent view of the fireworks from the pool!). All in all a fantastic stay, thank you so much Rob and Maggie. We will be back!

La Bolina is located in the country with an amazing view of the mountains, Frigiliana and the Sea
We enjoyed the unique character of the entire place including the location, the home itself and the wonderful view. Just getting to the place on the narrow, steep winding road is memorable. The owner provided good directions. Then the view is spectacular. Sitting out watching nature at different times of the day including the farmers on the hills nearby was interesting. The pool was great and relaxing to be in and sit near soaking in the surroundings. We would recommend this to those desiring to get out of town a bit, have privacy and see the real countryside of Spain.

A perfect setting; one of our best holidays
Getting to La Bolina requires negotiating steep uneven roads but we managed it in a Fiat 500. All you need is some confidence and common sense. Once you arrive you’ll find one of the most beautiful settings for two people. The house is a work of art, nicely designed and has everything you need. The grounds are divided into lots of different spaces that suit different moods and times of the day. The pool is big enough to swim a few strokes but to lie in it and gaze at the mountain views is just stunning. The mountain view changes by the hour and constantly captivates. The house and grounds are a work of art with lots of Rob and Maggies creations on show. There is another cottage backing onto Bolina, but the design is such that you’d never know. We felt totally private. But if you need anything our hosts house is just down the slope. There are lots of wonderful towns and villages to visit within a hours drive We tended to eat out in the day and stick to the villa at night. All in all, one of our best holidays. The food in the villages is amazing. We can’t wait to come back.

we fell in love, got married, went on honeymoon and fell in love with La Bolina
Absolutely ideal honeymoon location and accommodation - Rob and Maggie have put so much love and attention to detail into La Bolina that you feel it - our stay was an experience, not just because of the gorgeous location which literally took our breath away as soon as we stepped out of the car but every day and night we spent there, but because the home, not house, is filled with delights you notice as you relax There's every item you need and more for getting away from it all without missing out on anything - the Internet works perfectly, the small kitchen is well equipped, the air con was essential in the high temperatures - any quirky 'issues' are dealt with immediately by Rob and Maggie, for example the DVD player had stopped working before we got there and they told us they would bring one up - before evening they were there with a brand new system A typical day would be waking to the view from the bedroom of sunrise over the mountain, the sound of the cicadas chirping, sitting under the shaded pergola draped in vines, taking in the amazing views (pictures cannot do it justice) - we could see the mountains, valleys, village of Frigiliana and sea from a vantage point that felt like a cliff edge, the sloping garden giving panoramic scope while sculptures and rocks edge and yet blend your view - the internet and quality tv/dvd/sound system was lovely to use while it was very hot outside - evenings we could cook a meal and eat outside either in the kitchen or on the brick built bbq, sketch the view and sunbathe safely and privately while talking shade again under the pergola - late evening the pool would have been heated by the hot sun so we would often swim by moonlight - it couldn't be more romantic for two people away from busy lives to just enjoy each others company while feeling looked after in every way Rob also helped us get to the villa - it's hard to find but even harder to leave we will definitely return to this beloved spot one day - thank you for everything

Amazing hill top hide away with views to die for!
We had a lovely week stay at the end of June 2017. Plenty of peaceful time eating, reading, swimming and unwinding in this lovely mountain escape. The views are very special - mountains, sea and far off villages amid a bright blue sky. The infinity pool is small but enough to swim lengths many times during the day to freshen up from the Spanish heat. Rob and Maggie have build a very unique house with artwork both inside and around the garden - the latter included a sweet scented jasmine rambling over a seated area where we spent much of our time. We are already thinking about a 2nd visit in 2018!

Great Place with amazing view
My wife and I went to "La Bolina" for our late honeymoon (Corona and then kids delayed everything a bit...). It is really an amzing scenery. The view from the pool is fantastic. The house itself has everything that you need. We cooked almost every night at home. Timsam is also a great host and was very responsive. There was a problem with the internet but it was fixed really quickly. I would def. recommend to stay here. Maybe in a few years we will come back for a break from family life ;-)

We had a relaxed and cozy stay in La Bolina
La Bolina is a cozy house with a very unique character. We loved the sculptures and artworkes throughout the house and garden. The view from the garden is superb and makes you want to hang out in the garden to read, chill, and relax and end the day with a barbecue. It would be great to have additional shaded seating options in the garden, such as on the terrace or within the garden itself, as the sun can be quite intense during the day, even in March. We enjoyed Frigiliana, and our trips to Malaga, the Alhambra, and the park El Torcal. We wouldn't necessarily recommend Torrox and Nerja since they're very crowded and touristy (which Frigiliana is, too, but in a nicer way). Overall, we enjoyed our stay in La Bolina very much. We did one week of vacation and one week of "workation", and were also very happy with the internet connection. Thank you for having us at this beautiful place!
