Two men were at the door of the hotel when we pulled up. I asked in Spanish if they worked there, but they did not reply. They did not greet us or smile. A bit disconcerting. We unloaded the cat and brought our items into the hotel. They did help nor offer to. One of them checked us in and then he took the one small rolling bag and left us with the others to carry.
The room was somewhat sparse, but reasonably nice and it was spotless. Unfortunately, the WiFi did not reach the room, so you had to go near the front desk to get WiFi. My 3G did not work. There was no outlet at the desk which made working on the computer there impossible. The shower temperature lever was backwards (cold on the left) and the water never did get really warm. The shampoo and conditioner made my hair feel dirty - thick and greasy. So I ended up buying some at a local pharmacy. The towels were hard, well worn and we were only given two large ones. No hand towels. No towel bars. Beds were firm and comfortable.
The restaurant at the hotel, is separately owned/run. The menu is very limited - just eggs, quesadillas, chilequiles, hamburgers, etc. No tacos, enchiladas, flautas, soup, etc. A little pricey for the fare. The owner/waitress was super nice and helpful about visiting the Monarch park. We found a restaurant on the Jardin nearby that had a far greater menu, if less friendly wait staff.
The Monarch park was about 45 minutes away driving - the Sierra Chincua entrance.
