"We weren't expecting much from this hotel but were pleasantly surprised. The room was excellent value for money and was nicer than anticipated. Yes, this is an older hotel and it shows in places, but everything was clean and tidy. We booked a twin Premium room which had nice extras such as robes & slippers provided. The twin beds were almost touching which was fine for us as we're good friends but perhaps would be a bit weird if you were sharing with a colleague, for example. We had problems with the aircon not staying on for more than a couple of minutes. Not a big problem in December - we just opened a window - but I imagine would be very uncomfortable in the summer months. There were a few other niggles - there was a coffee machine in the room but no coffee pods supplied and we only received one pack of complimentary biscuits (so 3 custard creams to share between the two of us). The bathroom is quite small but fine for a single person at a time. The shower is a walk-in style enclosure with pleasant complimentary toiletries (shower gel, shampoo and conditioner). I found the shower pressure a little weak. The pool and gym are both quite small but adequate for a short stay. The pool was clean and warm - unfortunately the hot tub was out of order. All of the staff were very welcoming and we genuinely felt welcome here. I will look forward to staying again."

"I booked the Chequers as a mid way journey point before moving to France. Hotel was easy to find and park car in large rear car park. Receptionist was enchanting and helpful. Bar staff were very good, friendly and helpful. Rooms clean and tidy. Whole venue oozes with character. All staff were exceptional. Thanks for a lovely stay 😊"

"Incredibly good value for money. Spotlessly clean, large rooms, comfy beds, terrific breakfast buffet, good bar. Only minor gripe was a lack of staff in the bar area on Sunday after breakfast. Took a while to get a coffee, then staff dissappeared again. If you're staying with kids, note you can have 2 adults & 2 kids under 12 in one room, with a king sized & queen sized bed. We didnt pick up on this & booked adjoining rooms. They delivered a activity/snack bag for the kids to the room, nice touch. Despite the minor gripes we were very impressed with the hotel & would recommend. "
