About the area
We are situated 33 miles away from the nearest beach at Wells-next-the-Sea. This coastal town and others like Cromer, Hunstanton and Sheringham are very popular having their own unique character and charm.
For the bird watchers there are numerous nature reserves close by including sites at Titchwell Marsh, Minsmere and Lakenheath Fen.
For more information about wildlife in the area visit the Norfolk Wildlife Trust and the Suffolk Wildlife Trust websites.
Fairview is close to the ancient market towns of Thetford and Wymondham and is within 20 miles of the historic city of Norwich with its Norman cathedral, castle museum and shopping malls.
We are on the edge of the vast Thetford Forest, a beautiful 21,000 hectare pine forest. Public access to the forest is very good and High Lodge, located between Thetford and Brandon, is a popular attraction with its walks, cycle tracks which include a black run (bikes can be hired there) and Go Ape the high-wire forest adventure.
Close by is Peddars Way (and other long distance footpaths), West Stow Anglo-Saxon village, Grimes Graves neolithic flint mines, Banham Zoo (also has a Sunday boot fair), Castle Acre castle and priory, Snetterton Race Circuit (plus its huge Sunday market) and Pensthorpe Nature Reserve the venue of Springwatch for 2008 and 2009.
Watton is within walking distance and is an old market town with an abundance of small independent shops and high street supermarkets. There are also numerous restaurants and take-aways and Watton Sports Centre with tennis and badminton facilities.
Dereham is close by and has a very good range of shops both in the town centre and the outskirts. It also has tenpin bowling and an excellent new leisure centre with swimming pool.
