About the property
Recently restored and beautifully appointed, this mid-19th-century manor house is a superb blend of period style and contemporary living. With plenty of space including sitting rooms and a cinema room, as well as private grounds that are perfect for playing garden games and enjoying leisurely barbecues, it's ideal for a family get together or a special occasion. You'll be surrounded by beautiful countryside, yet there's a local train station with a service to London and Newbury just a few miles away for days out shopping or at the races.
The space
As you drive through the electric gates, then up the sweeping driveway where the house comes into full view, you'll realise that you've arrived somewhere very special.
Step inside the grand and spacious entrance hall and you'll see a galleried landing above you and a glass roof lantern above that, plus the original wide, turning staircase in front of you. Oak flooring runs throughout the ground floor and there's underfloor heating too, plus the sash windows are double-glazed.
The house has lots of natural light, high ceilings and excellent room proportions. This is especially true of the huge, bright and airy, open-plan sitting, kitchen and dining area. It's the perfect place for socialising all together, whether preparing a meal, enjoying drinks, chatting or tucking into dinner.
The kitchen area centres around an island with several bar stools and there is everything you will need to self-cater including an electric oven, induction hob, microwave, fridge with ice machine, freezer, coffee machines for both pods and ground coffee, plus a dishwasher. The sitting area features comfy seating and the formal dining area next to the kitchen has a large table with seating for everyone.
The house also has other sitting rooms, meaning that if anyone wants to enjoy quiet time reading a book, or the adults want to split up from the children for a while, they can.
If required, access can be given to the butler's kitchen where a washing machine and tumble dryer are available to use.
The house offers an array of ways to keep yourselves entertained too including a grand piano if anyone in your group plays and a cinema room with a large Smart TV/projector with Netflix. If you're feeling a little more energetic, how about getting the ping pong table out? Or, head to the mini gym which has a cross trainer, treadmill, static bike and a yoga ball.
All six bedrooms are on the first floor. There are five bedrooms with a king-size bed, one with an en-suite shower room and three with an en-suite with a bath (most are freestanding) and a separate shower. One also has a fantastic balcony with sweeping views over the grounds. There is also a bedroom with a two single beds.
There is also a family bathroom with a bath and shower.
Outside, the landscaped grounds, that are mainly laid to lawn, are ideal for summertime barbecues and playing garden games. There are two large terraces and garden furniture, while the south-facing aspect of the majority of the garden makes it ideal for enjoying the sunshine.
