Sleeping up to six people in three beautiful bedrooms, Quay Cottage is perfect for families or groups of friends seeking both relaxation and adventure by the sea.
If you can be tempted from your cosy coastal cottage, potter around Teignmouth’s trendy arts quarter or stumble upon an olde worlde pub for a hearty lunch. Or use Quay Cottage as a base for exploring the English Riviera and its bustling towns, cliff walks and golden beaches.
Revel in that cool, coastal vibe year-round and enjoy easy access to Teignmouth’s Back beach, known for its colourful waterside buildings, stunning sunsets and chilled vibe, making it an all the more inviting self-catering escape in Devon.
Quay Cottage is an oasis of calm amid Teignmouth’s historic Georgian buildings. Tucked away on a quiet street just a minute’s stroll from the beach, this homestay has bags of seaside charm alongside all its mod-cons. Thoughtfully refurbished with underfloor heating throughout, comfort is key. You’re greeted by a light, airy open-plan living space. Original stone walls contrast with the sleek and well-equipped kitchen-diner, complete with breakfast bar – the perfect nook to start your day with a coffee and fresh croissants from the local bakery. Settle in with the papers on the cosy corner sofa in cooler months or pop outside to soak up the sun and fresh air in the courtyard. Staying in for your evening meal? Dine in the alcove at the front of the property, where there’s seating for six guests. There’s a handy shower room to the rear of the kitchen, ideal for washing away the sea after a day out on the water.
Come nightfall, allow yourself to sink into a deep slumber in one of three beautifully appointed bedrooms upstairs. More exposed stonework is on show in the master bedroom, where you’ll find a king size bed, while a double bed and bunk beds for children are available in two further bedrooms. After a long coastal walk, the chic family bathroom, with its roll-top bath and separate shower, is a welcome haven.
Quay Cottage is yours entirely for the duration of your stay.
Quay Cottage is professionally managed by Fresh Escapes. A Devon based privately owned Vacation Rental and Management company who are here to ensure your stay runs as smoothly as possible.
Teignmouth’s charming Back Beach is located on the estuary side of the town and has spectacular views looking towards Dartmoor, particularly at sunrise and sunset. Splash in the sea, go rock pooling or have a go at one of the many water sports on offer. You could also hire a boat for the day or take the small ferry across to Teignmouth’s hidden gem, Shaldon Beach.
It’s just a stroll from Quay Cottage into Teignmouth – a lovely quaint old seaside town, which boasts a beautiful long promenade and pier. The seafront also has a children’s play area, a skate park, a miniature golf course and a heated lido. The trendy art quarter is well worth a visit for a treasure trove of independent shops, galleries, cafes, restaurants and pubs. Try the New Quay Inn, a lovely old pub that offers live music on Saturday nights and a spacious outside area if you’re with kids.
Teignmouth is also the gateway to a host of activities and places to explore for all ages. Sat on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, a wealth of hiking and exploration opportunities await. Pull on your hiking boots to adventure over moorland, or try Haldon Forest Park for natural cycling. Situated just outside Exeter, the trails give beautiful views back across the city and the surrounding countryside. After all that, find your way back to Quay Cottage to relax or head to our favourite Crabshack On The Beach for incredibly fresh seafood in laid-back surroundings.
It’s easy to get around Teignmouth. Leave the car and amble into town. Whilst the apartment doesn’t offer parking, there’s a choice of car parks locally charging very reasonable rates, especially when booked in advance via the Teignbridge Council local authority. The number 2 or 22 bus will take you to Teignmouth railway station, where you can take the Riviera Line which connects to Exeter and calls at seaside beauty spots Dawlish and onwards to the glorious English Riviera. A historic foot ferry also leaves from Back Beach every 20 minutes to Shaldon Beach, allowing you to cross the river and explore further.
The small area to the rear of the living room is quite small and has only seating for 2 guests. The New Quay Arms is only one house down towards the beach.
