NEW TO OUR PORTFOLIO FOR 2024
The Posting House; Kilchrenan dates from the 1800s and now provides luxury holiday accommodation in a traditional highland cottage. The original cottage has been carefully modernised to give all modern day living comforts while enhancing the character of this unique property. The sitting room is spacious and light with plenty of space for all to sit down and enjoy a quiet evening after a busy day adventuring in this wild part of Scotland. The dining area whilst in the sitting room does not encroach and provides an attractive space for a formal dinner party if you have a special occasion to celebrate. The modern kitchen is well equipped and also has a door to the large 1 acre garden. The paved patio seating area is immediately beside the house and the south facing aspect makes it perfect for enjoying open area evening meals. The front door of the cottage is into a sun porch with boot and coat storage and this leads to the hall which provides access to the spacious and well fitted bedrooms and bathroom; a special feature of the principal bedroom is it's French door to the garden.
While the cottage is in a remote area of Scotland it makes a perfect holiday base being in the small village Kilchrenan. The village is little more than a handful of cottages but it still has a popular Inn which serves excellent food and there are a further two hotels close by also providing 5* restaurant experiences, one of these is within walking distance (Taychreggan Hotel about 1.2 miles). The larger village of Taynuilt has a railway Station and also excellent village facilities including butchers shop, tearooms, post office, general stores and also a golf course.
Loch Awe is just a short walk and is set in the stunning highland scenery with Ben Cruachan and other peaks providing a superb backdrop while you enjoy walks or cycle rides along the quiet lanes or take to the Loch for wild swimming; paddle boarding; kayaking or fishing with excellent stocks of wild brown trout. Airds Bay is one of the best spots to visit and is about 7 miles along the loch from the cottage; there are also good dog walks at the bay.
The Western Highlands contain some of the oldest ancient Rainforest Oak woodlands due to the warm and wet nature of the climate. These woods are fascinating to explore and one, the Glen Nat National Forest is moments from the cottage and teems with wildlife in this lovely forest of Oak and Birch trees hanging with lichens and the ground covered in arrays of different species of moss. There are two paths through the wood one of which is a short 'there and back' all ability route which allows you to picnic beside the babbling burn, if you are lucky you may catch a glimpse of Damsel Flies and Dragon Flies and may be even a King Fisher. The wood is also home to impressive Wood Ant colonies and dancing Butterflies which can be seen on the longer trail
Further afield is Oban, 'Gateway to the Isles' with ferries to the islands. The busy and popular town is only a 25 minute drive and should not be missed as it offers superb opportunities to savour the freshest of Scotland's seafood in one of the town's excellent restaurants. In addition, both young and young at heart will love the Oban chocolate shop which can be used as a reward for having strolled up the hill from the town centre to the fabulous landmark of McCaig's Tower, possibly taking in the Distillery on the way as well. The list of places to visit is too long but the Hollow Mountain experience (a power station inside the Ben Cruachan mountain) is interesting for all ages as are the National Trust for Scotland Gardens at Arduaine. A day trip up the coast road towards Fort William is fascinating to see all the small Isles and dramatic seascapes not to mention Castle Stalker on itt wee island.
The area is truly a place that once seen it will not be forgotten and you will want to return again and again to enjoy the peace, comfort and luxury of the Posting House.
