Annies Cottage: Beautiful red stone cottage in the heart of Somerset

Annies is a beautiful 2 bed cottage set in the heart of the Somerset countryside. A newly renovated holiday home with pretty touches throughout. Annies is a typical red stone cottage with a modern twist and a warm, welcoming feel.

Sitting on the main street at the center of the quintessentially picturesque village of Halse, Annies offers clean and comfortable accommodation and is a home from home for all who visit.

ACCOMMODATION

The accommodation offers a spacious lounge with wood burner, dining area and oak flooring. Fully equipped kitchen and utility room. Pretty conservatory full of light, which overlooks a beautiful garden with stone wall, eating and patio areas. Upstairs are two bedrooms, one with double bed, the second with two singles (one is pull out but very comfortable). All beds have memory foam toppers and high quality bedding for extra comfort.

PARKING

There is parking for one car, plus just a few steps away there is plenty of parking in the center of the village.

HALSE VILLAGE

The village of Halse is set in the heart of the Somerset countryside but still very accessible to local towns, villages and amenities. Many of the properties in the village are listed and there are quite a few thatched cottages lining the high street. This pretty little village is just a 10 minute drive from Bishops Lydeard, where you have shops, takeaway, post office and 2 pubs. There are also larger villages/towns such as Wellington and Wiveliscombe nearby. Halse is set in the heart of the countryside, so just a few yards from the front door in any direction you can find many countryside footpaths and bridal ways to walk and explore. There s a fabulous pub called The New Inn, with a great menu, wood burner, skittle alley and outdoor eating area. The New Inn is a very short walk along the main high street, so if you don t feel like cooking or fancy a pint you can wonder down without worrying about driving home. The inn has a lovely welcoming atmosphere and often holds events such as pub quiz and fish n chip nights.

EXPLORING THE AREA

The main areas for walking and cycling are the Blackdowns and the nearby Quantock Hills. The Quantocks are known for their beautiful open pathways and amazing views from the tor. If you love hiking and walking you will be in your element with these areas of natural beauty on your doorsetp.

There s a fabulous old steam train line which starts it s journey in the nearby village of Bishops Lydeard, then meanders along the northern Somerset coastline to Minehead, stopping at many quaint villages including ancient Dunster with it s castle on the way. You can get a day ticket and hop on and off as you like, visiting beaches such as Blue Anchor and Dunster should you choose to. The train welcomes children and dogs and is a fabulous day out, where you feel like youve stepped back in time.

If you prefer to drive, the north coast is a short 25 minute drive away through the countryside. You can visit Minehead, Porlock, Dunster and Kilve beach with its lovely tea garden with within easy driving distance. Another great beach is St Audries Bay which is near the town of Wiliton.

Further afield, just a 50 minute drive takes you to towns like Glastonbury and Wells in east Somerset. Just a short drive further and you can spend a day in the cities of Bath or Bristol; both are interesting in their own ways for different reasons and worth a visit.

There s a golf course where you can also pitch and putt just a 10 minute drive away in Oak village and you can also visit the beautiful house and grounds of Hestercombe If you want to explore the coast line beyond Somerset, its only an hour or so drive over the county border to Combe Martin, Ilfracombe and Woolacombe in Devon.

You may not want to go anywhere once you ve made yourself at home in this lovely little cottage though. You may prefer to go for long walks, pop down to the pub for a meal or just chill with a glass of something in the gorgeous, secluded garden.

Either way, you have west Somerset to explore and further beyond this hidden gem and it s coastline, there s east Somerset and north Devon within easy reach.

GETTING HERE

Depending where you re coming from, you will ultimately end up on the M5, (unless travelling from Devon/Cornwall)where you ll exit at J25 Taunton. The village is just a short drive from there along the A358, then when you get to the main roundabout at Bishops Lydeard you turn left and follow the lanes which will take you to Halse in 10 minutes.

WOOD BURNER

Please use with care and caution. There s a log store, but we ask that any logs used and replaced please. During months April - September the burner is seldom needed.

DOGS

No dogs in the cottage please

Where do I start....we have stayed in numerous holiday let’s in various parts of the country, but Annie’s exceeded all expectations!!....From setting foot in the front door we felt relaxed and at home. T he cottage was so clean, and well presented. kitchen had everything you needed, bathroom was compact, shower powerful and bed super comfortable!....conservatory was the best room in the house for me, so relaxing, and a beautiful cottage garden to sit and relax in at the end of a day exploring the surrounding area..Halse itself is a beautiful, friendly little village, and everyone went out of their way to speak. I’m sure we will return sometime in the future

Short break to visit family and friends.
Beautiful cottage with all the mod cons especially the Dishwasher. Absolutely loved the fast fibre broadband, private garden, conservatory and of course the off street parking. Only negative is the shower head keeps dropping out of the holder.

Family Break 7 nights.
Annie's cottage is a lovely little place and situated in a beautiful village hidden behind those country lanes! Beautifully set out, Double Bed very comfy, the single room had a single bed and a blow up mattress which is nt stated in the description. With two children trying to decide who was sleeping where. Bathroom small but adequate, Kitchen lovely but a Freezer would of been useful. Recycling instructions need to be listed in Welcome pack to. Lastly a beautiful garden to sit in. Excellent communication to with property manager. Thanks Again for a lovely stay!

Typical English country village
This dear little cottage has been tastefully modernized throughout. Beds were comfortable and kitchen well supplied. There is good wifi in the cottage but phone service only available weakly at certain places in the village. The garden is newly landscaped and has picnic table and chairs set out to take advantage of the sun. The nearby pub is a great place to meet people and the food is EXCELLENT ! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

A lovely place to stay
Annie’s Cottage is a really lovely place to stay. It is cosy and beautifully decorated throughout. The kitchen is really well equipped which includes tea/coffee and other store cupboard essentials which we were invited to use. The bedroom we used was good with plenty of storage and the bed was super comfy. The bathroom was small but had a good shower and we had no problems with either the wash basin or saniflo toilet as other reviews had commented on! The cottage has a lovely conservatory and garden which we used regularly to sit in. The village is very pretty with interesting walks on the doorstep, it also has a great pub just a few minutes from the cottage! All in all we had a great time so much so we extended our stay here. Would definitely recommend this cottage and will come back again!

A Beautiful Property
It was a privilege to stay in this beautiful home which is much more than just a rental property. For what appeared to be a small cottage the rooms were surprisingly spacious and comfortable. The bright conservatory opened onto a wonderful recently landscaped garden with plenty of room to sit and enjoy the long summer evenings. The kitchen and utility room were more spacious than expected and well equipped although a small freezer could have been useful. The provision of tea, coffee and sugar, plus the availability of a multitude of sauces, condiments and pasta was very much appreciated. The village is pretty and very quiet, although the off road parking was an essential. The New Inn and its local clientele were all very welcoming and the food there was excellent. Overall an excellent location for a quiet getaway but still with good access to Taunton, Minehead, Exmoor and The Quantocks.

Wonderful peaceful cottage
We had a wonderful short break at Annie’s cottage. The cottage was absolutely spotless when we arrived and is very well equipped and cosy including a very comfortable bed! The cottage has a lovely garden and conservatory which we sat in in the evening. The cottage is in a very peaceful little village, perfect rural retreat. We can’t recommend highly enough.

Our stay at Annie’s Cottage
A delightful cottage - clean, bright, comfortable and with a pretty rear garden (had just been landscaped prior to our stay). Just one thing, the upstairs bathroom has a very small hand basin and the toilet is a Saniflow - which some people may find undesirable !

Lovely quiet cottage.
We have rented many properties over the years, and Annie's is a little gem, however we could probably pick fault with Buckingham palace, only a couple of points to raise about Annie's, a freezer would have been made use of, and some written information regarding local amenities, walks and even info regarding recycling which bins and boxes etc. The only other slight down side was the bathroom wash basin is tiny, however this is a home rather than a sole holiday property so personal preferences will differ. Lovely place to explore Somerset from.

Relaxing and spacious accomodation.
A beautiful cottage in a picturesque village. Annie's Cottage was tastefully decorated with quality furnishings and attention to homely detail. It's more spacious than the photos suggest and it's light and bright. The relaxing lounge feels like a page from a lifestyle magazine as well as being really cozy and comfy. The kitchen has everything you need and the lovely conservatory is inviting and leads onto a newly landscaped garden. We loved the bedrooms and the shower in the bathroom was great. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely be booking afain very soon.

Superbe cocon !
Dans un petit village perdu dans les collines, un grand gite très confortable et très bien équipé (c’est le logement habituel de la propriétaire), avec un jardinet typique orienté plein Est. Très agréable.

Beautiful restorated cottage
We spent 5 nights at this very beautiful restorated cottage. There was a lot of space for 3 people. The owner let us know in een email that the kitchen was a bit small, but that was not the case. The dishwasher was not very big, but it was big enough for 3 people. Everything was there, and everything looked polished and neat. The only thing we missed was a teapot, (that, or we couldn't find it :)). The dubble bed was smaller than expected, but maybe the Dutch are used to bigger beds than Brits. The garden was private en beautiful. The cottage is located in a quiet and beautiful village. The local people are very friendly and willing to help you with anything.
