"We stayed two nights but found that there were a lot of tour groups/ busses there so it got a little crowded on the 3rd floor onsen floor and elevators took some time. Older facility but staff are great and attentive. Parking next door is very convenient as well"

"-1 star for the room because ours was right in front of the signboard which was super bright. Had to request for extra pillow to cover face since there's no curtains or blinds to cover the shine. "

"We had an amazing stay at Hana Beppu, the food and onsen was wonderful! My only critique would be the washroom didn't come with a toilet brush to clean it so have to use hand. Perhaps all rooms should come with one. But overall we had a pleasant time here! "

"The check-in process was very smooth from the moment we were greeted as our car pulled into the property. We were able to do some pre-check in as we arrived in the morning and allowed to park our cars there as we explored the town and shops. Upon check-in we were provided small gifts (including beautiful small drawstring bags for all the ladies). "Nice property just off the main street, near train station. It is pet friendly with 3 resident cats roaming around the lobby. You get to book 2 sessions at the baths after checked in, the semi open bath on the 2nd level is popular, while the rooftop bath may not be a good idea in cold weather although the view is great. You get free use of the bicycles for your stay. There is no lift so you have to carry your luggages up and down the stairs."

"We booked the hotel the day of the trip as we had change plans due to Typhoon Haishen. When we entrance to the hotel was blocked with a rope and they did not answer the phone. There was noone to get any information, we did not get a cancellation or a notification. We were left in the typhoon with nowhere to go and struggled to find anything for hours during when the weather got really bad. "Very special property that we loved. We stayed in January and esp loved the onsen and subfloor heating. Check in was easy enough because there was the option of online pre-registration. The road to the house was windy but not too bad - note that the GPS in the rental car may not show you the way. We used Google maps and got there without difficulty. We were thankful to have a 4WD and snow tires, because there was ice on parts of the road. Highly recommend the place!"

Genuine experience

"Completely out the way, quiet, genuine staff who serve you a lovely dinner in your room. I hit a quiet patch so really managed to detach and got the Onsen to myself. It is away from the main town that the bus goes to but they were really happy to give me a lift there, and if i'd stayed there i wouldn't have found the waterfall that again i had completely to myself for some skinny dipping."

"My only complaint is the road to get to the container villa is so obviously made for a one way but the kurokawa onsen village decided that traffic can struggle to figure out who has the right of way and reverse in the middle of the road… very dangerous but any who.. The actual container villa was such a vibe from the moment I pulled into the parking lot. So convenient that they had signs pointing to where I needed to go to check in and instructions in both the email and the tablet used to check in. They even had english available. Not to mention they had Louis Armstrong playing in the parking lot which gave me such a nostalgic feeling. Very wholesome experience. The kurokawa onsen area is such a quaint vibe combined with the villa’s modern take on a nostalgic past time in America. 10/10 experience. I would definitely revisit! "
