"Mara Major Camp is the perfect place to stay for an authentic Kenyan safari experience. The lodge staff are local Maasai that truly make the place special. We were the only guests at the camp because we stayed at the beginning of the rainy/off season and they were so attentive to us, taking care of all our needs. The food is great and the chef works hard to present you wonderful meals. He also catered to our weird food needs. One of the Maasai took us on game drives around Maasai Mara Reserve and did a fantastic job driving and getting us close to the animals. He took us to see Lion cubs, cheetah cubs, and even a leopard cub! We also watched a Lion hunt and kill! Spectacular experience! The complaint I have has nothing to do with the camp, the stay, or the camp staff, but rather the false information advertised on Expedia. I don’t know if this is Expedia’s fault or the owners that run the camp off site. First, the camp is advertised as “all inclusive.” This is not true. You only get the lodging and meals, but you’re hit with ridiculous extra fees for anything else: transportation, game drives, other activities, anything to drink besides water, etc. So I warn when booking, this high price you’re paying for your stay doesn’t cover much. Second, the advertisement claims you will have free transportation from the nearest airstrips to the camp and back again. This is also not true and we were hit with another unexpected charge to get to the airstrip after our stay. Be warned. "

"Our safari at Lorian was absolutely outstanding and epic! It was small and very personal, with amazing service and food. We were blown away having gourmet dinners and meals cooked personally for us while in the "back country", overlooking a river with hippos, and right in the safari country. Betty was our game driver and was amazing. She was constantly on the phone with other drivers tracking what animals were where. We saw a leopard with a kill up in a tree, a lioness take down a wildebeest, wildebeests crossing a river, several lion kills... on and on. She was friendly, fun, responsive, and simply wonderful. We can't say enough about the staff who served and partially prepared the meals for us: Justin and Anthony. They were a joy to get to know and be served by- truly one of the highlights of our trip. The whole staff was responsive to anything we wanted, invited our inputs, and went way beyond what we expected or was possible while in the safari wilderness. Even had Starlink internet connectivity in the dining area and group area! Simply wonderful. If we ever go back to the Maasai for another safari, we will be returning!"

"Great location within Masai Mara and really wonderful staff. The little more attention to details would go long way. We had a few rainy evenings and dining room hall was like characterless school canteen. Food was good especially their home grown vegetables. "

"We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at Mara Duma in a triple tent. The tent was right on the Talek River and we slept to the sounds of hippos grunting and frogs. The staff were exceptional - warm, friendly, kind and helpful - and went out of their way to make our stay amazing. Food was tasty and home cooked and they catered for my gluten allergy brilliantly - i didnt get contaminated. The only negative is that because the hotel is right next to the Talek gate to the Masai Mara and a very rutted road, the road started being noisy at about 4.30am with lorries bouncing over the potholes...though we were up at 5.30am or game drives anyway so it didnt matter. Would definitely stay here again. Be aware that the fastest road from Nairobi to thehotel goes via the Park - gates close at 7pm to enter the Park."

"Massively impacted by rain floods which made main road leading to and fro the lodge near to impossible to navigate on or over. Rivulets and erosion break offs. Staff dedicated and committed, food varied and 3-meal buffet style offered plenty of choices. Accommodation naturally rustic and 'hut-like' as one would expect and seek out on a Safari tour. Electricity generally generator-powered and solar-supported. Nice rustic setting overall and strong efforts made of daily outdoor maintenance being undertaken. "
