Stay away!
We never even made it inside this house located up one of the most treacherous roads most folks can imagine. I drive a truck and we were never even able to make it in to the driveway. After almost going over a cliff to get back down, I called the property manager and was told that because of strict North Carolina laws, they wouldn’t consider a refund or credit towards a future stay. I called VRBO and they put me right back in touch with the property manager and according to their staff and many reviews, this is a regular occurrence with this property. I asked if the owner was notified and was told no so I’m going to call him tomorrow in Ft. Lauderdale to discuss the situation. I have rented from VRBO since the app was invented , several trips a year but this will be the last one if we can’t come to a settlement. We had young drivers joining us for a graduation weekend and for their safety I had to find another, more expensive house at the last minute. So I had 2 VRBO rentals over the last 4 days. Very disappointed with VRBO and especially the property manager, VACASA. If I have to spend more on an attorney than the cost of the rental I’m willing to do it because of the series of events. Completely took away from what was supposed to be a family celebration weekend.

Overall good just be prepared
Based on a review left two days after booking this non-refundable cabin, myself and guests were extremely worried prior to arriving to what might be a filthy and uncomfortable experience. The driveway to the cabin is extremely steep so have good tires and hope for good weather. We arrived at the wrong cabin first but eventually found it. I would recommend the property add house numbers at the end of the driveway. GPS confuses the destination when they are stacked on a mountain side. Best to arrive during daylight hours. Upon walking in and turning lights on, the lights in the first floor bedroom and hallway blew out immediately. No access to the electrical panel to fix. The bunk bed mattresses were like cardboard and the comforters were sandy/dirty but the sheets were clean. The other beds in the cabin were comfortable. Many reviewers complained about the water smelling like sulfur. Yes, it definitely smelled but we knew this ahead of time so we brought plenty of drinking/cooking water. The hot tub was great, the view was spectacular and it was a quiet and relaxing stay.

Nice house but...
Nice house and beautiful location. Getting to the house is extremely steep and couldn't imagine going in winter, as for the water the smell is terrible the past reviews were correct. The house wasn't to terribly dirty inside wasn't prestine or that clean either. The hot tub was terrible didn't even get to use at all, it was half empty and had stuff floating all in it. The hot tub screened in deck was also dirty and trash everywhere when we arrived which kinda sucked bc my kids really wanted to enjoy the hot tub. Overall it was a ok house that I would probably not book again.

Listing did not state property would not be reachable by car. Only that 4wheel drive may be needed in winter. We were unable to reach properly and management did not even offer a partial refund or maybe another property.

Beautiful property
House was beautiful. Road was not as scary as I feared. Limited view with some highway noise. Water only had mild sulfur smell and TV buffered. We didn’t need TV since there was a nice deck, hot tub, and outside fire pit. It was close to town for shopping and restaurants.

Will be remembered as that time we stayed in the fart shower house
The house was clean enough. The road/driveway was ridiculously steep with extremely sharp turns and we were terrified every time we drove up or down it (and this was in the summer- it would be impassable with ice or snow). The beds were all extremely hard and the kids say their beds were scratchy and lumpy, so none of us slept very well. The main issue, though, was that the water smells STRONGLY of sulfur (i.e. farts or rotten eggs). If you do the laundry, then the entire house smells like farts, and none of us are likely to forget the fart showers we had to take every morning! The entire vacation will be remembered as that time we stayed in the fart shower house. This house is way overpriced, considering the negatives, and we would not recommend it to anyone (at least not at over $400/night, after all the extra fees are added in)!

Nice getaway
Comfortable change of pace. Reasonably clean and spacious house high up on the hillside with beautiful view. The hot tub was welcome after a day of hiking. Take a filter pitcher such as Brita along for cooking water as well as bottled drinking water due to sulfur water at the cabin. Only other drawback was road noise. Must frequently reset satellite TV .

Great house, awful driveway.
Reservation and check in were seamless. However, in the description it fails to mention how tricky and terrible the driveway is. It is paved all the way up but it is so small and twisty we almost couldn't make it up in our truck. The description really should specify that you need a small car to maneuver and not to come in anything larger. The water does have an off smell as some other reviews have stated, but as long as you are aware before you go it isnt completely unbearable. The screened in back deck where the jacuzzi is is amazing and totally worth it. Overall I enjoyed the house but based off the fact that you cannot access it in anything other than a 2 door wrangler or smart car I dont think we would return to this particular home.

Horrible Subcontracted out property
The property manager refused to engage with me on the VRBO platform. They additionally made me sign a Terms of Services that contradicted VRBO platform. Upon arrival the place was not clean (particularly during Covid times). Many of the dishes were dirty and needed to be cleaned again (which they did not provide dish soap). Additionally upon arrival we walked in to see candles still lite from the previous rentals. Moreover, as stated above- we where not provided with any essentials there was no dish soap, paper towel and only a half a roll in both bathrooms. Upon calling the property managers via the number they requested they were condensing and refused to provide us with any essentials particularly toilet paper. Worst experience. It has caused me to rethink using Vrbo in the future.

Overall good, but a few warnings.
Overall, the place was nice and very clean, but there are a lot of notable warnings I would give to others. Internet – I am not even sure why they pay money for it as it was extremely poor. The Wi-Fi was practically nonexistent. On the welcome card it said it could be unusable during rain, but it was unusable always. I ended up using my phone as a mobile hotspot, but that was not much better, though it did allow me to do a bit of work. Water – The water is well water as to be expected, however it was seemingly not filtered at all and so it smelled of sulfur. I am somewhat used to that as I have been to a few cabins, but my mother couldn’t stand it. Hot Tub – This was a big selling point for me, but unfortunately the water smelled odd (not the sulfur smell of the shower). I used it the first evening, but I could smell that odd water smell on myself and didn’t use it after that. Location – Finding the drive to the house wasn’t too difficult, however the drive up to it was super steep. We drove in a F250 with 4wd, so getting up it wasn’t much of an issue however I could see it being very sketchy in a non 4wd vehicle, with balding tires, and/or in inclement weather. The drive was much steeper than the drive to my sister’s house and could easily be uncomfortable to some people. Also, there were quite a few potholes on the drive up that should be fixed. Parking – Parking was fine, however in a 20 foot it was about a 5-6-point turn. Be careful if you have a large suburban or something like that. View – Unfortunately the view from the balcony was mainly woods, a bit of trimming would be nice to see the mountains in the distance, but as we weren’t there much during the day it wasn’t an issue for us.

Quaint Cabin
This stay overall was pretty good. We arrived a little later than expected and were surprised at how steep the drive was. Most vehicles will likely struggle with the climb and in the winter 4x4 would be a must. Watch out for deep potholes and one hairpin turn right before you get to the house. The entrance of the driveway goes down a hill and has a Vacasa house sign to the left of it. The layout of the house is really nice. We especially loved the porch and the overlook deck midway down the driveway. We also enjoyed having the hot tub being screened in as the gnats in the area were a little annoying. Just a heads up, the only access to outside is from the door you enter in when you arrive, even though there are French doors on the front of the house, they are key locked from the inside. The kitchen was very accommodating for those liking to prepare their own food. The bed was a very comfortable King. A few cons were, the house climate control was set to 80 so it took quite a while for the house to cool down our first night. The direcTV receivers in both the master bedroom and the living room had to be restarted (power cycled) in order to connect each time we chose to watch tv. Lastly, and I’m not sure what the fix is for this, the water has a distinct sewage smell when it’s running so I’d pack bottled water if you plan to use water for anything delicate. We enjoyed our stay and would likely visit again in the future! .
