We had a thoroughly enjoyable two-night stay. The caboose is very comfortable and filled with interesting historical touches. The made to order breakfast was fantastic. Our host was very friendly, attentive and helpful. We will definitely stay here again!
Awesome location and host!!! Tami got us off for great days of sightseeing with a great breakfast and information on things we wanted to see. The caboose was a comfortable and unique place to make our home base for sightseeing in the black hills of South Dakota. Thanks again for a wonderful stay!!!
The caboose was absolutely amazing! The farm was beautiful and our host Tami was the sweetest. We would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend this unique stay to anyone and everyone we know!
We thoroughly enjoyed staying in this unique caboose on a very historical family property! Tami is a gracious host and has thought of everything! We'd love to come back again and will definitely refer friends!
I spent a few days with my 9-year-old son, and he thought it was so cool staying in a caboose. The hosts were super friendly and it was so nice to have a delicious breakfast prepared for us every morning - one less thing to think about. The place was very clean and organized - the hosts thought of everything! We would definitely stay again.
This is an exceptional property with an over-the-top experience! We can't say enough about the quality of staying here. Tami thinks of everything and has the gift of hospitality. Also don't miss breakfast! Great start to the day! We will definitely be back!
Beautiful, Unique Experience with a fabulous host!
Was a beautiful property with many unique accommodations. Abundant wildlife and an unexpected surprise. It is a working family vineyard and winery, with wonderful and unique wine flavors. Tami serves a full cook to order breakfast you may eat on her beautiful patio. I feel like we have a new friend!
I almost don’t want to post such a great review because this is such a great secret of a gem but the owners are such amazing people and the property is absolutely perfect. We had an absolutely PERFECT weekend and it all started when we pulled into the property. Tami was amazing and she made us the most lovely breakfasts every morning. The caboose was absolutely adorable and the other sleeping areas were all decorated in different themes. We can't want to come back and bring our kids. It was so peaceful and so many little miracles happened while there. What a blessing. Thanks Tami for making this experience so amazing. We certainly needed this getaway.
Nice place.
She even included breakfast which I didnt read the description very thorough so if it said, I didnt noticed. Nice surprise!
Had AC unit and small heater which was nice because Sept. Was hot in the afternoon and chilly in the A.M.
I didn't care too much for the bathroom being in the same room and just a curtain dividing it but again, I didn't read description, I was just excited about it being a train car.
It did have an outhouse for the other spots on the property which was nice.
The hosts were wonderful, I can’t put it simpler! The property was immaculately maintained and there were added amenities we wouldn’t have even thought of. It is secluded but very close in. We will definitely stay again the next time we vacation in the area.
The little red caboose was wonderful we had a great time it was nice and clean and Tami was a wonderful host she made us a wonderful breakfast every morning she even I did gluten-free.
My wife and I stayed here while we did our whirlwind trip of the Black Hills and then down to Denver. The time in Sturgis was much better than expected (totally not the stereotype). Part of what made it so was staying in the caboose (and please, eat at the Loud American - amazing!). The place was great. Hard to believe an old caboose was turned into something so nice, quiet, and stylish. Anyone staying here should feel safe, secure, and welcomed. You’ll have a great time. We did! Thanks so much to the wonderful host.
Tami and her mom were so gracious and hospitable! We were able to tour their beautiful, unique home, and view the entire town of Sturgis from atop their property - the only 360 degree view in town! The breakfasts were delicious and Tami was very accommodating to our time schedule. Very centrally located to all things South Dakota! Highly recommend!
The caboose where we stayed was really cute, well thought-out, nicely decorated and just fun overall - as was the entire spot, with various interesting "buildings" - one is a farm tank, one a sheepherder's wagon, etc.
Tami was lovely, welcoming and easy to deal with. She cooked us a nice breakfast, and she and her mother joined us and gave us all sorts of interesting information about the place and the area.
If you are staying in the caboose and it's a hot hot day, you're well advised to call early and ask Tami to start the air conditioning. It took a while for the caboose to cool off to a comfortable level.
We arrived late in the evening because of a late start.when we were able to communicate the entire time to the property about our arrival time. When we finally arrived the hospitality was amazing. The breakfast was amazing. We were told all about the property an even had a small tour of the property. The entire stay was amazing nothing was over looked. We will be back for sure for another peaceful weekend stay.
Very special accommodations with everything you could possibly need. Hearty delicious breakfasts to start your days of sightseeing and roaming. Welcomed tips on routes to travel. Surprised with a winery on the property and a special evening tasting. Must try the rhubarb raspberry wine - perfect ending to a long hot day!
What a unique and charming place! It felt private and secluded while being close to town. Quiet-peaceful-beautiful!
Hosts were exceptional! Tami makes delicious breakfasts, and is available for any need you may have.
The caboose was very clean, and so well stocked- they think of everything!!
Would come back- we really enjoyed our stay!!
The Rock Island Caboose was delightful. It is clean and decorated so nicely. The history of the caboose is amazing. We loved staying at the farm on the edge of town. Tami was very accommodating and friendly. We enjoyed her mother and brother’s hospitality also. Breakfast was amazing and their wine and honey are delicious. Don’t forget to hike to the top of their property for a 360 degree view of Sturgis. We want to visit again someday.
This was such a fun stay. The caboose was super cute, nostalgic, and had a historically interesting story. The host was amazing. We enjoyed her homemade breakfasts each morning and all the info she gave us about their 20 acre farm, and local places to visit and/or dine. We also enjoyed the honey and wine they produce. Such a quaint and unique place to stay. We will definitely stay there again!
It was easy to get a reservation. The location was perfect as we visited many places around this area of South Dakota. Our hosts met our every need and made us feel very welcome!
From the moment we arrived, the experience was wonderful. The views, wine tasting and morning breakfast waiting was over the top. Speaking of getting to the top, please walk the hill to the bench and soak in the beauty. We would definitely stay again- just a magical setting!
Property was beautiful oh, Tammy was a great host and provided us with a lot of information regarding the area. Would highly recommend staying in the train caboose. Tammy's breakfast were terrific!
