Drummore is a traditional fishing village with a beautiful beach and quaint harbour which you can walk to on a quiet country lane from Auld Dairy Cottage and perhaps enjoy a meal or just a wander along the beach. Straight from the doorstep there are miles and miles of excellent walks and cycle routes along quiet country lanes while admiring the unspoiled landscape. Scotland’s “southern highlands” are ideal for walkers of all abilities and, for the real enthusiast; there is Scotland’s coast to coast long distance footpath. The Southern Upland Way is a 212 mile walk covering some of the wildest landscapes in Scotland, from Portpatrick on the west coast, east across Galloway to Beattock near Moffat and on through the Borders to Cockburnspath in the east. Whilst enjoying your stay at Auld Dairy Cottage a must is a visit to The Mull of Galloway just 5 miles away. The Mull of Galloway is the southerly most point in Scotland which is home of the lighthouse and spectacular views over Ireland’s Antrim Hills and the Cumbrian coast of north-west England, and across Luce Bay to the Machars of Galloway and the Galloway Hills.
The Mull of Galloway RSPB nature reserve is home to more than 3,500 nesting seabirds such as puffins, guillemots, black guillemots, razorbills, kittiwakes and fulmars. Other attractions are plentiful in the area from golfing, fishing, sailing and horse riding. Of course no stay is complete without a visit to some of the most beautiful Gardens in Scotland including the world famous Logan Botanic Gardens featuring some rare and beautiful plants and trees, and Ardwell Gardens and Glenwhan Gardens. For the younger family members of the party, Agnew Park in Stranraer has a wide range of leisure facilities including a large boating lake with a range of boats; a specially designed themed crazy golf course; an 18 hole putting green. A miniature railway, which provides visitors with a tour of the park and also available is a sand filled play park, with various play structures. Beach 1½ miles.
